happy day.....
today my wife went back to work for the first time since the birth of our daughter 8 months ago. I work full time myself and will now be watching the little tyke when she is away at work, she is only working part time at the moment so she can be home to cover the times that i am at work.
but today was special, today was the first day that it was like my "position" as the dad incharge! Since i was working many hours to cover the house hold expenses I only really got to take of the baby for 4-5 hour intervals if my wife was out doing something. now with her back to work (nurse btw) i get to take care of her by myself for 8-10 hours now. i relish this, i feel so happy when were together as a family, but when its just me and my daughter its different if you know what i mean. not better or anything, i guess i am just happy i get to spend more time now at home. was a great day, her smiles and giggles made me cry more than once. we napped together, played, went to the mall (too busy!!!). I envy anyone who gets to stay home with there children full time. today was a great day. one of the best days of my life. sorry for the long story, just wanted to share. |

I totally understand where you are coming from... It was around 10 years ago when I had my first alone time with my son. I was both thrilled and terrified... When I finally put him down to sleep, I kept the baby monitor pressed to my ear so I could make sure he was still breathing...
Two years ago my daughter was born and I has been totally cool going through it all again...

i thought about taping the monitor to my head so i would not miss her cry, i must have went upstairs to check on her 5 times in 3 hours good to see i am not the only one! My wife had to work mon/tues night so after work it was just me and my little girl again, dinner, bath time and such is much more rushed without the missus there! I brought her to bed with me the first night, was such a cosy sleep. woke up to my wife taking her out of our bed at around 2am. i still can't describe how it makes me feel. i am so happy to be a parent.
congrats charlatan with the second little one, must be like getting on a bike again! |

Aw.....Mr. Mom. That's the best. We have a new 4 month old nephew that just recently spent his first time alone with my husband, but my daughter was there to help. She's a teenager. (almost 14) and is great with the baby.

Like you I too spend a lot of time alone with my kids. My wife teaches horseback riding and is out Monday and Wednesday nights and all day Saturday and Sunday. When my son was young she would leave Friday afternoon and not get back until Sunday evening... every weekend. While it really cuts into a social life, it is pretty cool to spend time with your own kids.
