Brain Transplant
Why can't they do a brain transplant? It seems like if you had a person that is brain dead but still alive it would be perfect to transplant his brain with someone like Christopher Reeve (when he was alive) who has a brain but no body??
Ummm..... they cant do a brain transplant because once you "disconnect" the brain from the spinal cord, eveything goes dead. I dunno, I cant really explain it.
You'd need to maintain a supply of oxygenated blood while you were transplanting and then you'd have to hook up every single nerve and tendon correctly. If, that is, the brain hadn't died of shock during the process.
yeah connecting every nerve from old body to new..is a little beyond our capability..but who knows what the future holds..5 years ago people would have scoffed at the idea of transplanting a hand and it has been done.
Only Bones could do a brain transplant. and that was only after some sort of mind/knowledge transfer. NOw, you have to figure out which episode that was. :)

we don't understand enough about the connections between the brain and the rest of the body to be able to transplant it. the biggest challenge is reconnecting the brain stem with the spinal column...can't happen with our current lack of understanding. here's a good overview of the brain: http://www.encephalitis.info/the_illness/Types%20of%20Encephalitis/Brainstem.htm
