Good, but twisted toy for a 2 year old boy... Need suggestions...

My nephew is about to turn 2, and I need to keep my record going. I'm essentially the black sheep in my family, especially when it comes to giving presents. For my nephews 1st birthday, everyone else got him teddybears, or stuffed dogs. I got him a stuffed scorpion and a 8 foot long stuffed snake. He loves em, and won't sleep without his "nake" and "corpon."

I've been kinda busy this year, and haven't been keeping up on my toy research, and ideas for something for a 2 year old?

JStrider 10-06-2004 09:32 PM

hahhaha cool...

i'll try to think of some ideas for ya...

MikeyChalupa 10-07-2004 05:31 AM

Sharks are cool. My 3 year old loves his stuffed shark, which he got on a trip to Sea World. We thought he'd be scared, or be more interested in Shamu or the dolphins or tropical fish, but he's all about the sharks. Now he loves the music from Jaws (though he hasn't seen the movies, he knows what sharks are all about from watching Shark Week) or anything at all even remotely shark-related.

As the black sheep auntie (but the kids love me), I'd suggest toys that make noise, but don't require batteries... :)

Mr. Skillman 10-07-2004 06:33 AM

::smiles:: what you really need to get him are two books writen by Neil Gaiman- Wolves in the Walls and The Day I swaped my dad for two goldfish.
These are wonderfuly writen books that are illistrated a little on the dark side. Perhaps you should wait a year or two though with the reason being that now he won't know better if they are taken away, never to be seen again.

!!!!!! i cant believe i forgot about that book... every kid should own 2 copies of it!

Irishsean 10-07-2004 02:37 PM

Too late, already got him the book and the stuffed animal from "wWhere the Wild Things are" it was my favorite as a kid.

I don't think he's quite old enough for those two neil gaiman books, I already have them and think they're just a bit beyond a 2 year old.

clavus 10-07-2004 04:49 PM

There are some darned cool Beanie Babies. My kid has a wicked-looking eel, some bats and a spider.

vanblah 10-08-2004 06:29 AM

You might not want to "scar" the kid ... but being the father of a three year old I don't think some of these are too bad:

Irishsean 10-08-2004 03:11 PM

OMG Vanblah, those are awesome, I want to get him the head-split bunny, nut I'm afraid my sister-in-law would kill me, hehe...

fhqwhgads 10-08-2004 10:13 PM

I don't think that the frankenbunny on morbidtendencies would be too scarring.

shaggs_manoa 10-11-2004 12:50 AM

In honor of AVP they have a stuffed alien larva thing, it even has wires inside the arms so it can "grab" you

daswig 10-11-2004 08:02 AM

Um, I love Mark Ryden, and own that book, but that is not an appropriate "toy" for a 2 year old.

DonnieBoy 10-22-2004 09:34 PM

go the other way and get something that will drive his parents insane. Like a set of drums or a Keyboard or a Talking Barney Doll. Thats what I always did with my sister's kids... Course now I have the 2 year old and paybacks a bitch Im told..

Giant Hamburger 11-18-2004 02:50 PM

Of course you could do what I did with my 2-year-old and buy some really cool black boots and punk like clothes...

Buy him his first pack of cigarettes. I'm sure mom and dad would love that.

MSD 11-18-2004 11:09 PM

Bongo drums or cymbals.

miyamotomusashi 12-01-2004 11:13 AM

I liked rabbits when I was a baby. There are Monty Python Killer Rabbits now...

littlebighead 12-02-2004 02:09 AM

If you're going for something offbeat, how about something that is alive? How about a hamster in a cage? They're pretty friendly with kids too. Another thing that my kids loved was a live butterfly garden (http://store.yahoo.com/insectlore/liveinsects.html).

If you just want to piss his parents off, get him a barbie doll. :)

Hard8s 12-22-2004 10:51 PM

How about a stuffed black sheep, and then some thigh high rubber boots and velcro gloves!!! He won't understand but his parents will!!! :D

Charlatan 12-23-2004 08:28 AM

What did you end up getting?

Giant Hamburger 12-23-2004 10:00 AM

I know you aren't asking me, but...

I ended up getting Cinko, The Ugly Doll from Pinkie's post for my almost 2 year old daughter. Hopefully, it will get along with Cthulhu.

pinkie 12-23-2004 10:07 AM

Aww... GH!! I got my daughter Babo, and she loves him very much. She also has Scrump, whom I gave her for her birthday. (from Lilo & Stitch) They all sleep together at night. :D
