When she needs one, of course. Is she starting to grow breasts? If so, get her a bra.
Get her whatever kind she wants.

Sometimes its best to get her one, even if she doesn't need it. I can remember getting changed for gym class in grade 6, and everyone else wearing a bra except for me. I don't know about the thong/training bra sets, but of course they sell them separately, and Im sure you could get them to match close enough, if thats really an issue....

I'd say when they hit puberty and start their menstral cycle. Training bras are beginning bras- good start

Assuming this isin't from a troll: Any child that is just old enough to get her first training bra is nowhere near old enough to be wearing a thong. There is a thread here about "my 12 yr. old wants a thong", search for it and you'll get plenty of input on the topic. Thongs and G-strings are meant to be sexually appealing underwear for women (see MontanaXVI's pic's). I don't even think there is such a thing as a "training bra/thong set" (and if there are, those companies should be taken to court!).

I barely had "mesquito bite" boobs when my Great-Grandma took me shopping for my first bra when I was 11 (I still have it 21 yrs. later BTW, in memory of her). I wasn't even aware of my budding breasts and detested having to wear that piece of clothing. I'm only 33, that should say something about how disdurbingly fast kids are growing up these days. They're just old enough to possibly need a training bra, and a "thong" is included in that thought at the same time! Keep your daughter in her appropriate age group (with lessons, clothes, behavior etc.) as long as possible because she will grow up fast enough, you shouldn't want to add to any corruption that she might experience from outside sources growing up as a teenager.

God, I long for a child (since my first and only died 11 yrs. ago), and I can't ever see myself questioning something like this if and when I'm blessed with one. "Thong" won't even enter our discussions until she (he? That'll be different! :D ) is 18 yr's old. Just MHO.

wait, your upset about them having g-strings, but have no problem buying your young daughter a thong?

i found out athong covers more and you can buy them with cartoons on them g-strings show way too much.i would not buy it but all her friends have them and they are the ones that told me that wal-mart sale them.i ask one of my neighbor about somr advise and she siad she has a 10 year old daughter and she lets her wear them.then i ask her to show me a pair and they did look kinda cute with wiinie-the poo on them

I wouldn't use what other parents do as a guide for what you should do. All it takes is a quick look around to see that most parents in the world today, for lack of a better term, "suck ass." Sure, all her friends parents are getting them thongs, and they're probably all going to be having sex by 14 or 15 since their parents clearly have very little interest in regulating their child's sexuality. And this coming from a libertarian-leaner.

I forget where i read it...either here or somewhere else...that thongs arent the best underwear hygiene wise. I also would have to say that 12 is way to young to be wearing a thong, cause if i was a teenager again i would think that she isnt innocent and prolly try to get with her....things have changed since i was that age only 10 years ago.

I've worn thongs since I was 14, and I have never once gotten an infection. If she just makes sure she's clean down there, she'll be fine, more than likely. Another thing, just because you wear a thong doesn't mean you broadcast that fact to the world.

I'd imagine a bra is appropriate when a bra is needed by her boobs.

My GF wears them for comfort mostly. If the girl wants to wear them for comfort, and not sex appeal I see no problem with it whatsoever. She is not supposed to be showing other people her underwear anyway, now is she? No one is going to see her in it (supposedly -- if someone is chances are the panty/thong/g-string will be off soon as well) so I disagree that this will be "sexing" up the kid.

And according to me, those pics are the other way around. The one with the most cloth is the G-String and the other is the thong, but meh, its not important at all.

Buy her a bra as soon as she asks for one (assuming she is infact nearing the age of puberty). Chances are she'll want one her friends start getting them. This means she won't feel left out, and unlike the thong/g-string debate, there is really no harm done by wearing it a little too early.

Both of my daughters asked for a bra well before they needed one, but I think it is probably good for their self-confidence to let them have it when they want it.
