The #1 Thing that makes a good parent is staying on top of what your kids are doing. And always make your house the house the kids want to hang out at so you know what your kids are doing.
And do not always try to be their friend but know when to be firm. That is why Grandparents make the best parents, they have been there. |

talk with them instead of shouting AT them. So many people forget that the little ones form their own opinions and likes / dislikes. It's a fact that we're not yet equals, My 10 year old is not intellectually capable of the same things that I am, so it's my responsability to remain flexible with him. My children are regularly complimented on their behaviour and vocabulary / intelligence. I think it stems mostly from the fact that we have discussions about all kinds of things together. It's very rare that anyone shouts in this house, it's simply not effective so we don't waste the time and energy. Children learn that very quickly.

I don't know exactly what makes someone a good parent...there are a number of desirable qualities...but I'll tell you what, the thing that means the most to me as my parents daughter is that my parents trust me, have great faith in me, and take immense pride in my accomplishments. Those three things, which are all sort of related I think, have boosted my confidence and pushed me to achieve things I might not have done otherwise.
