Has anyone read any Robert Anton Wilson?
He's my favorite author right now.
He's also my favorite modern philosopher His big books are: The Illuminatus! trilogy The Schrodenger's Cat trilogy The Cosmic Trigger trilogy |
You must check out Swex and Drugs and Prometheus Rising!
I thought the Cosmic Trigger was one of the Schroedinger's books? In any case, I have read the Illuminatus and Schroedinger trilogies, The first three Historical Illuminatus books (I don't think I ever found a copy of The World Turned Upside-Down), Sex and Drugs, Prometheus Rising, and the Principia Discordia, which I understand he had a hand in writing. I like his ideas, and I wish the world were like that, but I find he lacks applicability. Of course, I've never tried all that hard. That said, Illumiatus is one of my favorite books of all time. I find it immensly entertaining. It may be the longest Shaggy Dog joke ever, and it's funny as hell along the way (excpt for that first bit with the squirrel. WTF was that??) I also really enjoy Schroedinger's cat, particularly the Third Book where he appropriately changes all the cuss words. I think he nailed Rhenquist dead on. I've liked everything of his I've read. |
i like his fiction a lot, but find his nonfiction tedious. Schrodinger's Cat was probably my favorite of his work.

I have read most of his works.
He as a very odd view of things in general which I love. |
Yeah I actually have only read Illuminatus, Right where you are sitting now, and the first half of schrodengers cat.
I plan to read cosmic trigger, promethus rising, and now that you have suggested it Sex drugs and Magick. But alas, I have a book queue of like 15 books right now. Hes opened my mind up alot, he actually has a dvd that just came out a couple months ago called Maybe Logic that is a documentary on him and a collage of his lectures I guess his views of things are 'odd' in the respect that not many people think like him, but thats because most people are stupid and dont think at all. Try as I might, I find it very hard to disagree with him about much of anything. |
Excellent writer
Some other authors you might also like:
Susskind Tipler Feynman For an alternative perspective try looking up Krishnamurti. Awakening of Intelligence is my favorite by him. He actually was raised by a cult as their messiah but when he grew up he left them because of disagreements on beliefs and started his own teachings. |
See if you can find his Historical Illuminati series. Great series that takes place around the American Revolution, but I don't think the last book was ever published.
|
With the Historical Illuminatus series, i believe they are all being re-released because the final book is going to be published soon.
Also, for all the fans of the Illuminatus Trilogy, you might try Focault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco, Its a very smart novel with much of the same subject matter im most of R.A.W's works. |
