Did Mary have a choice?
Did Mary the mother of Jesus have choice wether or not God was the father of her child?
No, i dont believe she did. Course with all the changes to the bible who knows.
Well, there you go. Aren't you glad you asked?
I don't think she did. The story goes that an Angel came down and told her that she was to bear the child that would become the son of God. Then, by the power of the Holy Spirit, the son was conceived. If any of you watched the show on the Discover Channel called " Mary, mother of Jesus" it explained how it IS possible to have a child without semen insemination. It's very, very, rare, but it IS possible. Makes you wonder..

back then she was the only virgin he could find ;)
the text doesn't answer that, but tells us that she regarded herself as blessed once she was told. whether it was fait acompli when she was visted by gabriel or not isn't said.
from her attitude, and from gabe's words, it seems that God chose someone He knew would be willing, bypassing the whole business of a back-and-forth for the angel
Joseph was one gullible dude.
It doesn't matter if it's true or not, if your wife is pregnant and claims to still be a virgin, and you believe her, you're still one gullible loser. |
I've found tfp'ers to be quite a well educated group for a bunch of horn dogs. Havent' you?

Well, if you go by one of the basic precepts of the bible (that every person has free will), then we would assume that she would've had a choice. From what I remember, though, she didn't.
Another thing in the bible to make you go hmmm..... |
nevermind ;)
okay freewill...
cries rape
God is a rapist!
If the impregnation was physical, it could be defined as "rape". According to the bible, it was a virgin birth, and therefore had nothing to do with penetration, or sexual acts altogether.
She was more like... probed. Area 51 style. |
I doubt she wanted it, but since it was god...she let it in with open legs! Ho ho! But then again I don't believe in god or any of that stuff...
Well, according to scripture, she was born without original sin, and never sinned in her life. So, you could say that she was born to do it, and that was her intended path in life right from the beginning.
