Magneto has seen the true face of humankind, in the camps and afterwards.
The coward Xavier was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Perhaps Magneto's experience has given him a more realistic view of the world. It is better to die on your feet than live on your knee's!

Magneto saw the worst of mankind and took it as the average. His mistake is one of perception. Had he taken the time to heal his emotional wounds, something Xavier could have helped him with had he actually trusted him, he could have gained the objectivity necessary to be a truly great leader. Had Charles and Magnus been a united front for mutant equality instead of constantly battling, it would have been better for the cause.

Sometimes neutrality and equality are impossible.
If it is a choice between the fire and the fire truck, some people stand back and watch (ie - Xavier) and some people fight the fire (ie - Magneto)

Given Magneto's plan to kill all humans with the aid of a delusional/deceived Xavier, I would say that he is indeed bad, and that he had become exactly what he ran from as a child.
It is like the father that beats the son, because he learned by being beat as a child himself. Did he hate it as a child? Yes, and yet he perpetuates the anger and fear with his own son. So Magneto perpetuates the hate and genocide that he learned as a child. Both are wrong and have crossed any reasonable line that society could offer. He talks to homo sapiens like a KKK member talks to a black man at a store. Polite conversation all while seething rage boils inside. He may not be pure evil, but IMO under no circumstances (or very few) is he good.

Will, I already liked you but after this you just went up a notch!
I think consciously it's a coincidence that he was written this way. Subconsciously though I believe all writers channel history and current events going on around them and they get reflected in the stories and characters. So I think it's very possible it was on purpose in a way. |
