I second the questioning of the question. The birth, creation, formation, or what-have-you of the universe has no real link to evolution. Evolution explains how a certain organism developed into what we have today, while the universe's origin explains everything up to the (near) beginning of evolution. That's as close as they get.

Yes, but the unwashed masses don't have such a negative reaction to modern cosmology as they do to evolution ("I ain't related to no monkey") - so those hardcore young-earth 6000-year guys intentionally conflate the two as they push their agenda.
