Fired by Satan?

Truly....we are a somewhat confused society if this can happen:

"I'm just a little bit shocked myself that a college in good standing would back up students who insist that people who have been through college and have a master's degree, a couple actually, have to teach that there were such things as talking snakes or lose their job," Bitterman said.

In this age of science and technology, in a world where information is exchanged as currency in many regards....can we still afford to think this way?

Plan9 09-24-2007 12:07 PM

Apparently so!

"I can assure you that the college understands our employees' free-speech rights," she said. "There was no action taken that violated the First Amendment."
Right, right.

Well, I for one am convinced that whales speak a polyglot of French and Martian.
Some folks would rather believe they know than acknowledge what they don't know.
Students controlling professors is just more evidence that our world has gone insane.

I saw this but it doesn't mean we are getting the whole story.

This guy could well be an asshat that has been on the firing block a while, the problem with how it works is, the school fires him, he says 'This is why they fired me' and they generally won't say why he was really fired in detail.

So on the surface it sounds laughable, but I am skeptical that this is just about what sounded in HIS words to be a reasonable statement that you shouldn't take the creation story literally.

Don't taunt the Good Book. You'll go to HELL!

Infinite_Loser 09-24-2007 05:57 PM

^That's right. You will ^_^

Baraka_Guru 09-24-2007 06:17 PM

According to my Jewish friend, there is no hell. And he says the Christians got Jesus wrong, because he didn't even fulfill the prophecies right. Yeah, he like screwed up a couple of things, or something.

So I guess we're still waiting and stuff.

Plan9 09-24-2007 06:44 PM

Jesus: "Actually, hell is located in Lodi, New Jersey. Don't drink the water."

...

Waiting and stuff.

Man, story of my life.

Good point, the school isn't commenting so we don't know their side of the story on why he was fired. Maybe he was inappropriately touching the kids in his classroom, and that's why they let him go.

I'm ashamed.

I read this as "Fired by Santa".

Damn my dyslexic tendencies...

Yeah...well...don't feel bad. I did the same damn thing. I just knew that this thread was gonna be about department stores cutting costs by eliminating the elves from their Christmas displays.

Ourcrazymodern? 09-26-2007 06:27 PM

Apparently Santa is still with us, taking his gifts back.

Yeah... Early Jews believed in a rather uneventful afterlife called Sheol. It's interesting to look back on certain religious ideas. For instance, dualism, God and the Devil, most likely comes from the Zoroastrian struggle of Ahura Mazda and Angra Mainyu. The idea of an angelical hierarchy is also most likely taken from the Zoroastrian tradition. The idea of judgment after death is most likely taken from the Egyptian tradition.

Also, when one goes back to Abraham, you see that he worshiped one god, not God...

Anyway, I digress...
