I have only taken one college course in philosophy. I was exposed to Plato and Socrates and a few others I don't remember. The one thing that comes back to me most is the shadows on the wall idea from Plato. It helps me to realize the reality I think I experience is not objective.

Hmm.. The people who graduate from subjects of mathematical/natural scientific nature are called "magisters of philosophy" in Finland. (Historical background for that skipped in this post.) I am minoring in theoretical/analytical philosophy (logic, metaphysics & ontology & epistemology, philosophy of language and mind.. versus practical philosophy: social & moral philosophy, philosophy of state and good life etc.), but have also some random courses in science studies and feminist studies which combine philosophy to other approaches.
I am studying it kind as a hobby atm, but if I will pursue academical career in sociology or communications eventually, all that will come in handy. |

I took LS1 (Liberal Studies), like everyone else at my school... The course consists of a bunch of readings ranging from Plato and Descartes to Thoreau to Martin Luther King and Malcolm X. Luckily for me, I happened to get one of the teachers who actually did a good job with discussions, so my class was interesting. I plan to take some real philosophy courses when I have space in my schedule, or over a summer one of these years...

I dropped out of philosophy about 12 hours into university, but I still have about 450$ worth of textbooks and a few classics that I've read through just for kicks. I haven't posted anything here yet, but once I'm sure that once I can make a statement that I can confidently defend I'll probably get a little more vocal.

I'm majoring in any one or all of the following: History, Compartive Religious Studies, Pre-Law, and Poly Sci. Which and how many change daily.
I'd say i'm self taught, having been a intellectual minority for most of my life...one with a mouth that tends to get me in trouble. |

I've studied a lot of things in college and various courses yet have never taken a full fledged philosophy course.
I am a lurker in here in this particular forum as I usually don't have the time to launch into a full-fledged answer or response before I'm interrupted and that drives me nuts! As far as a lot of the threads/replies in here...well sometimes I read them and say holy crap I'm over my head....most times it's a response from the heart. Which, while sometimes they aren't the most enlightening in the world they are honest and from the heart! Do I hesitate sometimes posting in here...sure - only when I know I don't have the time to put into it. Other than that...degree or no degree I will put in my two cents worth from the best college I know....that of life!

I am an undergraduate student with a dual major in Philosophy and Political Science ( emphasizing in political philosophy). Read all of the greats and a few of the not so greats. Totally changed my perspective on the world. Now I dont have answers to anything.
