Changing your child's doctor
Hey all,
I really want to change my toddler's doctor. How do I choose a good doctor? I saw the list of docotrs in my area that accept my son's insurance and I'm not sure how to chose between all of them. All my friends have mostly the same as my toddler's doctor, so I can't ask them. Plus, none of them lives near my area. How can I know which docotr is better,which is not? Are there places that rate doctors? Any info on how to choose a good doctor? Thanks |

How are insurance claims handled, and will the pediatrician bill your insurance company directly. Do they accept checks and credit cards? Is payment due at the time visit, or will the pediatrician bill you? What happens if you miss a scheduled visit? Can you easily reschedule? If you aren't getting recommendations, which is the best way to find a doctor, your instincts are your next best thing. |

I know mothers who actually made appointments with possible pediatricians just to ask those questions. They did this with a few of them and then compared notes.

May I ask why you are changing doctors? Knowing that might help us craft the questions you need to ask prospective pediatricians.

I'm changing docs b/c I feel that my toddler's doc is too lenient and whenever I ask him anything all he says is "he's fine"...My son's been having bad breath since a year ago and whenever I ask him, he always says nothing's wrong, even though I senese some tooth decay.
Also, referrals take so long with him. And I need a doc close to my area..in my own county. So many reasons why I'm changing:( Thanks for the help, all. |

If you think he has tooth decay, why are you looking for a new M.D.? You need to take him to a D.D.S., aka a dentist. My child has bad breath from time to time, if he is anything like his father he can credit bad sinus drainage to it. Hes also fine. Oh and I'm a D.D.S. :) |
