Going on a ghost hunt

Well, my curiousity of what might exist beyond our plane has finally gotten the better of me. Near where I live there is an allegedly haunted cemetery. I have been to the cemetery during the day and experienced some strange things that are beyond my ability to explain. So after doing some research into this cemetery, me and two of my friends have decided to check it out after dark one night.

The cemetery dates to the early 1700's and is the site of some sort of massacre, both of indians and of settlers. For obvious reasons I won't divulge the date that we are planning to go, but I will follow up with what we found or didn't find.

The cemetery is the Gilson Road Cemetery in NH.

If anyone has any advice, please share....thanks.

Take pics!

Windbreaker 09-20-2005 07:40 PM

bring a cam corder and record.

SaltPork 09-20-2005 07:57 PM

We're bringing two digital cameras and a digital camcorder. We will also have a digital recorder and good shoes to run in. :)

hulk 09-21-2005 04:46 AM

One thing that may or may not help is asking permission from the ghosts to record them. They're apparently nicer that way. Manners get you everywhere, eh?

aberkok 09-21-2005 04:53 AM

I don't presume you don't know this (sorry if you do), but maybe take a few practice shots with you digital camera to get used to taking good pictures in the dark. I know I always have trouble with those. It would be a shame to miss out on good shots because the flash settings weren't right.

But most importantly...DON'T CROSS THE STREAMS!!!!

ok this is starting to sound like blair witch project.... dont forget the camcorder!..

Gnoll 09-22-2005 11:17 AM

Tell me how it goes, I'm curious cause dorm is supposedly haunted by several "entities" and I was thinking of finding out for myself.

Grasshopper Green 09-22-2005 03:52 PM

I have no advice, but I'm eagerly awaiting to hear the details of your adventure!

maskedrider 09-22-2005 04:09 PM

Going on a ghost hunt.. that seems really cool. I've been to haunted house before, didn't see any ghosts though. I guess I don't have the third eye.

SaltPork 09-22-2005 07:22 PM

We wussed out a little bit, did another day run. Same weird experiences.

Upon entering the cemetery we felt as though we were walking through knee deep water, the resistance with every step was crazy. As we reached the back left corner of the cemetery we felt as though we were being pushed in the chest. While we stood in the back corner we felt nauseous to the point where we had to leave.

We did take pics, but there wasn't anything there, but something is up with that place. Next week we go at night.

hunnychile 09-23-2005 05:31 PM

Hey, Hold a seance there! Or take a young virgin (if you can find one...LOL!) with you to be the acting intermediary. Maybe you can contact some disembodied entities. At least take a white candle and light it when you notice energy flowing around or toward you, or have a blank tablet and pencil there for someone to do automatic writing - if any of you is an empath. I'd carry a cross in your pocket though in case it get's too outta hand.

Just a thought. BTW - How many of you are going? Yeah, I have had lots of experience with ghosts. It's not always a scary experience.

weapon26 09-24-2005 08:09 PM

We did several "ghost hunts" while I was in college. Tape all the time. That's my only advice. Take pictures when you "have a feeling". That's how are best ones came out. I'm glad you ask the spirits for permission first, but don't forget to say something before you leave. We always said thank you and reminded them that they should stay there and not follow us. Never can be too carefull. We actually experienced a possesion on a cemetary ghost hunt. BE CAREFULL.

tell me more about your experiences...we haven't gone at night yet, mostly due to schedules and weather....at least that's the story we're sticking with :)

We did about 10-12 nightly cemetary ghost hunts. As far as our photographs went, we captured dozens of orbs. Whether or not they were dust particles or ghosts who knows. A buddy of mine lived in a house riddled with hauntings - doors slamming by themselves, water running from the faucet by themselves, voices from the basement calling out the roommates names, scratching in the walls and ceilings...etc. While photographing the basement we captured an amazing picture. The photo revealed a long tubular white transparent form. We joked because it looked just like a floating condom. Unfortunately the photo was on my friend's computer which crashed and I didn't have a copy of it (sorry I have no proof of the photo and I know how that sounds).

Ok, now here are the REALLY CREEPY INSTANCES. These all involved my girlfriend at time (wife now). My wife, her mother, her grandmother and great -grandfather have all had an amazing 6th sense. {for one amazing story see my post: "Ouija Story and Warning"} She stopped going on our hunts because they became far too frightening. She once saw a woman standing next to my friend and I with a terribly menacing look. The woman coveyed to my wife somehow that she was angry we were there because she was visiting her son's grave. My wife even got the intense smell of cigarette smoke when she appeared (mind you, we can't her).

Once while driving to friends house, I missed my turn and continued into the country a bit. I started driving really slow so I could find a place to turn around in the dark. As I stopped, my wife started freaking out saying I had to hurry and get out of there as fast as I could. When I asked here what was the problem, she said she could hear the sound of screeching brakes and see the images of a woman being choked in the field next to us. We decided to head back there another night with some friends to take some photos. My wife came, but still got the sickening feeling she did before. We got a lot of orbs to appear and one that was very dense and bright yellow in color. It was the first time we got an orb that wasn't the typical white. I don't give much credibility to the whole ghostly orb thing (because it's often dust), but this was a bright color.

Just remember to be careful and always be respectful of what you are dealing with. And always remember, you might get more than you bargain for.

SaltPork 09-28-2005 06:53 PM

Thanks, weapon26. Great stories of your "hunts". I am chomping at the bit to go, but now one of the guys that was solid to go is sick and the other is on a business trip.....soon, though, soon.

mackyroo 09-29-2005 06:51 PM

weapon26: From what I have read, heard, and seen Orbs are not ghosts, just collections of energy.

Now if the ghosts can use the orb's energy to manifest itself into a form perceptable to our senses is another question.

SaltPork 10-04-2005 07:14 PM

well, we went.....three of us, including me.....here is the story.

We all met at our office, right down the road from the cemetery. We took some pics around the office as "control" photos to make sure that the lenses were clear. All was well, so off we went.

The night was devoid of any moonlight. If you look at a moon phase calendar, you'll note that the new moon occurred Monday, Oct. 3rd. So the night was about as black as it could be. There was very little light from the houses in the development across the road, Tanglewood, and there was no light from the sides or back of the cemetery. The only light that shown into the cemetery was from the very occassional passing car. We were careful to mute the flashlights and take a break in our picture taking when cars passed by.

We parked across the street from the cemetery and we all hopped the wall at the far end away from the gate. We were very anxious to check the place out. The first place I went was to the back corner where there is a missing section of rock wall. One of my friends was very close by and I got some remarkable pics of him surrounded by orbs. BTW-I used to think the orb thing was utter BS, but no...it's not. It was at this time that he felt like his muscle under his right arm was being grabbed by something. He turned to leave and I snapped a pic of him, again, he was surrounded by orbs. He did not return to that corner again.

I walked along the back wall and while I did I could hear voices getting closer and then they just stopped. Not sure if it was a TV or real people's voices just carrying in the clear night air, but only two of us heard them and we weren't that far apart, and the voices were loud enough to hear clearly so we all should have heard them.

I was getting more and more nauseous as I walked the back wall and had an incredible feeling of dread. I wanted to get the hell out of there because something felt wrong. I turned to walk back up to the front wall and leave, but instead I went over to where one of the other guys was sitting on the ground. As I moved closer to him I felt something tracking my movement through the cemetery. I heard foot steps in the grass and decided it was time to go. Rather than hopping the wall again and risking a broken ankle, I decided to go out the front gate. As I moved quickly along the front wall I heard the movement again, but saw nothing nearby. As I got closer to the gate of the cemetery I noticed a shadow on a headstone (and no, it wasn't my shadow). I had stopped to look at it and then it just disappeared. I took off like a shot.

My friend who had been sitting down had also heard footsteps on the other side from where I was. He shined the flashlight in that direction, but saw nothing. He said he felt something pushing on his chest and that was it for him. He vaulted the wall like a freakin' world class hurdler and met me in the street. Both of us had forgotten about the other poor bastard until he came running out too. Though he never said why he left so quickly, probably spooked to be there alone.

Anyway, I must say, I was sufficiently terrified...yes, terrified. Scared is a different feeling. Scared is what you get when you go on a roller coaster, you think that you're going to die, but deep down you know you're safe. Terrified is when shit is happening to you that you can't explain and you have no control over what is going on.

I will post the pics soon, I just need time to recover....we're going back in two weeks on a full moon.

wow thats some insane stories. Have you ever actually seen a ghost and not just felt there "presence"?

weapon26 10-07-2005 09:00 PM

The photos are very similar to what we used to get too. I'm not convinced either of ours are supernatural, but I agree in that you can't ignore the the feelings and sounds you here. Be realistic always as well, I know I could really get myself worked up on our hunts because of the atmosphere. Sounds like a fairly successful trip though. I look forward to hearing about more.

atta boy SaltPork........get right back on the damn horse man.

good luck buddy

Strange Famous 10-09-2005 09:49 AM

nice one.

Ive been on a few ghost hunts, but Ive never seen anything. All I would say in terms of advise is dont get too pissed, and keep a camara just in case. If youre like me, you'll act all macho, then get a bit scared at some times and be inwardly praying nothing happens... and then it wont.

Still, its good fun!

I watched an episode of Haunted Places recently, and they area always really polite, ask for permission, etc. It seems to work, although I do watch that show with a bit of skepticism.

SaltPork 10-18-2005 08:45 PM

So, we went again this evening, one night after the full moon and nothing. No weird things happened at all. It was just an old cemetery at night. It wasn't even creepy. It sort of lends some creedence to our experience before, yet I suppose it could also take it away. Undaunted, we will continue our treks to this place and gather more evidence.

weapon26 10-19-2005 06:40 PM

This is one of my favorite pics we got while on a cemetary ghost hunt. We didn't remember there being a light in the direction of where we took our photograph but this strange image came up. We were freaked and started laughing when we lightened and blew up the image since it looked like we captured a Jack-o-latern. I went back the next day during light hours to see what we might have captured and it turned out to be the light on a church of all things.

o.k. what a great story i would be so scared to go to a cementary by my self so i am going with a whole heap of other people :)
there is a tour here in melbourne australia that tours the old melbourne cementary twice a year once on hawlloween ( which i think is funny because its not a big thing here is oz) and another time in april on a full moon.
well i am going on the 29th because they have had sooooo many requests they had to put on an extra night. i dont think i will see any ghosts because all of these people will scare them all away (well i am kinda hoping they will but kinda not) about 200 people will be there on the night all different times.
i will let u all know how it went i think it will be good although its not really a ghost hunt more just a tour

You might as well go to a carnival. With that many people moving through the place, there's not going to be anything going on. Hope you're not paying to go on this "ghost" tour.

hi again well i went on my tour through the cementary and it wasnt really a ghost tour more an informative thing, we had a guide who took us through the place showing us different people's graves and explaining why they were important to the city of melbourne in the early 1800's it was good no scary things were going on that i saw but i did take some photo's hoping to 'catch' somehing on my camera but no luck, my friend on the other hand did get weird thing on her camera, it's some funny blob, its a blueish colour, and she took it when she was at the back of the group when we were all walking away.
anyway i think most of the time u dont find spirits they find u, if they want to be see u will see them
and yes i have seen a spirit, it was my mum

GakFace 11-25-2005 07:02 AM

Makes me wish I was with ya.. I know there are old posts in this section where I state that my main ability.. the thing I notice most is that I'm on an empathic line with spirits. The feeling of dread and all that.. I wish I was there to interperet. I seem to have a sense of knowing if spirits are nearby and when i'm in my 'Spirit (adrenaline) rush' (as stated in the pictures thread) I can actually pinpoint where the spirits are near me. No I can't see them, but its a weird gut feeling, like an internal compass I guess. Its neat fun, but you really have to be into it because so many things will freak you out. Hell I was freaked out by my senses until I accepted them, and even then you have to be careful.

The common rule, be nice. That one rule, I've befriended spirits I never would have thought possible.. and made me re-think some philosophies.
