Someone is into my room at night

For the last week I have been awakened every hour on the hour by the sound of someone running into my room. Each time I look around my room and there is nobody there. Within a couple of minutes there is a strong smell of perfume. At first I thought I was dreaming or something but two nights ago it started waking my wife up as well. I'm so tired now after a week of this that I am more annoyed by it than I'm scared by it. This is really the last thing I need to deal with at this point.

Have you been under a lot of stress lately? I understand that can cause very lucid dreams.

If you think it is real, lock your door and windows and see if that stops it. Put some makeshift "alarms" like bells on strings, or tin foil, along the floor.

Did the sounds you hear wake up your wife or did you wake up your wife. If she's hearing the sounds, too, I'd suggest you conduct a thorough search of your living quarters and then set up an actual alarm system.

Perfume eh? Well, try setting up a cot right by the door, and make sure you sleep naked on your back, and the next time this ghost runs in, bang! you have her.

Hopefully she doesn't look like Phyllis Diller, or have some otherworldly STD.

But really, I think the video camera idea is the best, although they have proven to be less than effective when trying to record paranormal events.

A sound recordeing might also be worth a shot. It wont show you what happened, but it will tell you if there is something phbysical happening. If the event happens again, and the tape is blank, it could very well be a dream issue, and I have no suggestions for you if that's the case.

Good luck,
Peace,

Pierre

If you do video it then please post it if its a ghost and if its a hot naked chick then there is always the EZ board.

Lets us know what it was or if it was nothing.

Something tells me that a vid camera and a tape recorder aren't going to do the trick. If you believe in paranormal activity, I'd say that's your answer.

Any news on the noises frogza? Is it just you and your wife in the house/apartment? If so then I would be really freaked out by this unless of course it turns out to be a really vivid dream. Keep us posted.

It's stopped, it hasn't happened for 4 nights now. When it was happening both my wife and I heard the running sound and smelled the perfume but it seems to have stopped. Our dog wouldn't come into the room while it was going on. She would just sit by the door and wait for us, we couldn't even lure her into the room with treats. This morning though she came right in and went to sleep while we were getting ready for the day.

I did a little research hoping to uncover something(Like a death in the house or something similar) but we're only the second owners. I talked to the first owners and they hadn't had anything strange happen while they were living here. So now I have no idea what it was, why it stopped or if it will start again.

I don't really remember this happening as I was only 4 years old at the time but.....

I use to live in a place called Santry in Dublin, Ireland. My Grandfather was in Hospital, dying. He was 67 years old. For the last 2 or 3 weeks I had gotten into the habit of waking up at 4:45am, going into my mothers room and telling her I needed to go pee pee. She had to stand outside the bathroom door as I had a fear of the dark(what 4 year old wasn't?) Anyway, upon returning to my bedroom and my Mother to her's, my Mother heard me screaming, a real shrill scream. Total fear (or so I've been told). When she ran into my room I was shivering in the corner saying "there was an old man looking in my bedroom window" (third floor window) A short time later my Mother got the phone call that her Father, my Grandfather, had died at 4:45am give or take a minute or two.

There was one other incident that happened to me, when I was much older, only about 10 years ago, which I remember as clearly as I remember yesterday but I don't think I'm ready to talk about that just yet.

A friend of mine used to live in this really old house. He was renting a room for an older man. The old man said that gnomes lived in the house and they stole stuff. My friend never had a problem with the gnomes but the old man was always going on about how they stole something. Few months later, my friend got an apartment.

A very good friend of mine lives alone in an apartment. The other morning, she said she was more scared than she'd ever been in her life. She said she woke up at 7:00 am to the sound of someone panting really loud, and FELT someone laying beside her. Actually, felt the pressure against the outside of her calf. She said there was definitely an angry air about the room, and she couldn't open her eyes...so she just laid there until she couldn't hear it or feel it anymore. The very next night, she said she woke up coughing and sputtering like someone was trying to choke her.

I definitely believe it could be a spirit and told her she should check with her apartment manager and see if someone died there. She's been there almost a year, and I think it's possible that it could be about the time he/she died. She said she really doesn't want to know if someone died there, and if it continues she will just move.

It's all very bizarre, but very interesting too.

Actually, ninnycode, one of the mechanisms of sleep is partial paralysis of the body, so that our bodies don't act out our dreams in our sleep. It sounds like your friend may have been having a nightmare she had tried to wake from before the sleep mechanism wore off. That would explain her being unable to open her eyes as well as feeling a "pressure" (caused by her trying to move her muscles and being unable to.)

REM Paralysis

My first post here, but I have some info to share. I've done quite a bit of research myself on things of this nature. What may have happened is something called REM paralysis. Basically it occurs when you are in the zone between being awake and asleep. Your body is asleep but your brain is still awake. It could happen either right when you go to sleep or when your waking up at some point. Usually you start to panic because you feel like someone is grabbing you, or you even see someone approaching you and attacking you.

Personally the reason I researched this was because it was happening to me almost every other night at one point in my life. It was a stressful time in my life so I think that had a direct effect on the occurance. There were times when I'd be laying in bed and feel the presence of someone about to enter the room and I'd actually hear noise. I'd start to become very scared when I noticed I couldn't move at all. I'd try to scream but nothing happened. Sometimes this would last up to 5 minutes until I finally gained control. Other times I'd just see weird alien like beings approach me and stare at me and while I was in pain, yet I couldn't do anything. At the time I was really freaked out because I didn't understand what it was and I thought I was actually seeing ghosts or aliens. I'm still a little freaked out by it but atleast I'm pretty sure it wasn't real, just all in my head. Hope this helps out some people. I'd like to hear some similar stories from others too.

I highly suggest setting up a video camera and just letting it run. Point the camera in the direction where the sound/smell is coming from. You might even be able to catch it on tape. Good luck...

It's back. Last night it started at 1:00. The second time was at 2:00 and my wife decided to go to a different room to sleep. I told her I'd join her later, I went and drank a Mtn. Dew and grabbed a book and decided I'd wait till 3:00 to see if I could see something come in. Right at 3:00 I heard the running start in the hallway and come into the room. As soon as the sound cleared my doorway it stopped and the door slammed shut. I didn't see anything, but I cleared out of the room pretty quick. I'm not ashamed to admit I was scared. We heard the running still going into the room from the room we were in every hour for the rest of the night.

This morning when we went into the room to get ready the blankets and sheet were all shoved up to the head of the bed. My wife won't go back in the room, she had me bring her clothes out and put them in the other room. Our dog won't even come upstairs now. I'm more than a little freaked out too. I've been trying all day to focus on other things because as soon as I think about it I get chills up my back, but finally I decided to face it by writing it here. So, any ideas?

do the camera thing. Or gets some friends and have then wait with you, and then search it out together.

that's very spooky. A lot of people here suggest that you put up a camera or something. I highly recommend that you do this also. I think it might just be your dog running in and out of the room. That might be it.

kinda funny you mentioned your dog not wanting to go upstairs. does your dog bark at the room or anything?

i had issues in a house i lived at and i swear my dog was sensitive to it. sometimes he'd stand at the foot of the stairs, all his hair on end and barking and growling like crazy. he was not a barker and up until we moved into that house i could have counted on one hand how many times i'd heard him growl over the years. sometimes it matched up with other weird happenings, sometimes not. but i'm convinced he saw or felt something there even when we didn't. once we moved, his barking and growling habits returned to normal.

i also suggest a video camera, or at least an audio recorder. if you can't do that, have some friends stay over. at least if they hear it too you and your wife won't start wondering if you are nuts!

Another long night last night. We slept(as much as possible) in another room. Still every hour the running starts in the hall and ends in our room. I shut the door before we went to bed hoping that would help things but to no avail. I talked my brother into coming over tonight and my wife is going to his house with my sister in law. We'll both have cameras and will try to snap some pics as the sound starts. I'll post them if we get anything. At this point though I'm more interested in stopping it than documenting it.

Sounds a bit whacky to me.

Kinda freaky and, as I don't believe this is happening in reality (how could it?), it must be a psychological thing. As someone else asked, are you under a lot of stress lately?
Not questioning your sanity! If you believe this is happening, them something must be happening. But it's most likely some dream related occurance.
