Usually when I'm falling asleep I'll hear a whisper of some random word, but I can't give examples because I can't remember them. It's a tad creepy though.
I constantly hear people calling (what sounds like) my name, but that's because every Sean, John, Paul, Scott, Robert, Lauren and Cornelius sounds like Dawn from far away. Heh. |

Probably has to do with you hearing things in your head. Like if a song gets stuck in there at random. Same principle but with your name.

I remember this one time I was falling asleep.. I kept hearing a voice, not loud enough to fully comprehend, but loud enough that I knew there was a voice there. It was a childs voice, and my wife and I didn't have kids at the time so I knew something weird was going on.
I finally had to get out of bed to follow the voice. Not sure why, but something in my mind told me I had to hear what was being said. I walked all over the house, and the voice seemed to stay at the same level no matter where I went. I checked all the TV's, none were on. I checked all the Radio's, none were on. Now I was starting to get a little freaked out, so I went to check and make sure all of the doors and windows were locked. When I got to the door to the attic, the voice seemed to all of a sudden get louder. As I opened the door to the attic, the voice got about 20% louder, and now I could confirm it was the soft voice of a child. But, the voice seemed tainted in a way, almost like the child was in pain or something. I mounted the steps into the attic, which at the time seemed darker than anything I have ever seen. It was almost like one of those sensory depravation chambers, all I could hear was the childs voice, Nothing else. I couldn't see anything, I couldn't hear anything else. When I got to the top of the stairs I paused and stopped breathing, straining to hear what the little voice was trying to tell me. Finally, from the darkness I heard... NOTHING. It was my mind playing tricks on me.

Voices no. The theme to the woods area of Zelda Ocarina of Time - Yeah. for a whole hour - it was driving me nuts since no one in my dorms has an N64. And I was the only one who heard it.

Auditory hallucinations (if that's what they are) can be a sign of mental disease. The fact that you can hear the voice, but no one else can suggests that may very well be the case. No offense, but I'd suggest you seek professional help.
I wrote a long story in this space that in the end was not mine to tell, so I deleted it. I suggest you watch the movie "A Beautiful Mind", which describes the life of a gentleman who was schizophrenic early in his life but didn't identify the fact until later. You might find it thought-provoking. I almost wish I could post this anonymously, because I fear that there's no way to say this to you without risking your taking offense, but please believe that this is not my intent. I guess if you see this, I clicked "Post Quick Reply" instead of "Back"...

I don't hear any voices but I feel a little concerned for you. It is probably nothing, but perhaps it would be prudent to take JustDisGuy's advice and get checked out, just to be sure. Good luck with this, I mean that sincerely.

This kind of thing happen to me sometime when i am alone at home, in my old room. Most of the time its people walking near my house but sometime i can hear low voices for about 30 minutes.I tried to understand what they were saying but they were not loud enough. All t.v and radio were off and there is no way someone could stand near my house to talk for 30 minutes. Even though i freak easily, those voices doesnt bother me much.
It's not the only weird thing that happened in this house. My oncle in one of the room once and during the night, half-asleep, he thought there was a sad child in the room with him he even made room for him in is bed (like you do with your child when they have nightmare or are sad) This could be an awake-dream but this thing happened to me too about 2-3 days after that. I woke up in my bed and i was sure as hell that there was a kid right beside my bed. I dont know why but i had the reflex to throw a punch in his direction. I didn't felt attacked but as i said i freak out easily and there is no way a child could be in my house at night (i am the youngest of my family and i am 18 year old) |

I once heard a soccermatch while I was trying to sleep... like it was on the radio or something... only there wasn't any soccer match on at the time (like 1 am). It seemed to originate from a corner in my room where there isn't any radio or anything electronic.
I also heard 2 people talking once, when I was studying in my room... from the same corner... frustrating because I couldn't quite make out what they were saying. Anyway, I figured it was just two people talking outside (my room is on the second floor and near the street) until I looked out my window... nobody there... I could still hear them though... But eventually it stopped. That was at a weird time in my life though... I was under a lot of stress and having troubles of all kind (being a teenager of 15 years without real friends and having to deal with the ugly breakup of my parents)... I still have it occasionally though... I think I can hear ppl talk, but then I start to listen and it turns out to just be background noise of a machine or something. I just chalk it all up to fatigue and an overactive imagination. Plus, the place where I heard the voices before, there's a server (computer running 24/7) now, so all I ever hear comming from there now is the soothing sound of a computer fan.

When your senses are deprived of input, the subconscious train of thought can be misinterpreted as sensory input. It's a distinctly different phenomenon from hearing ghost voices (or hallucinating if it turns out that i'm really just schizophrenic )

I had a very similar experience to theburner but mine came with a totally different outcome. Mine ended in having a small voice that needed to be extinguished show up at the end of my bed. I hit the power button on the television and the voice stopped!

I recently moved into an apartment with two other roommates. There are times when one or two of us will be gone for days at a time leaving the other person in an empty apartment for a few days. Last week one of my roomates and I were talking and she mentioned that she thought she heard muffled voices coming from somewhere around my bathroom while she was putting her makeup on, a man's voice speaking a language she didn't understand (my bathroom is at the end of the apartment, by itself and away from the street). She was the only one in the apartment at the time and the voice sounded like it was coming from nearby, however it didn't sound like the people who live below us. I chalked it up to her active imagination until a few days ago when I myself was alone in the apartment and went to use my bathroom. I heard a muffled man's voice talking to someone and right away remembered the chat with my roomie. There was no one by the window (we are on the second floor) so I went back into my room and almost had a heart attack when I opened the blinds to find a scary looking man standing there looking in. It turns out he was a technician on a ladder, just working on the satellite dish right next to my window

I hear voices every now and then, but almost every night if I am doing something and I am half asleep kind of bobbing my head trying to stay awake something YELLS in my head. Its not simply a voice, it is a full fledged yell inside my head, and it scares the crap out of me everytime it happens. It it always someone I know doing the yelling, like last night it happened and it was a fellow I work with by the name of Christian. Its not like im thinking of a yell in my head, its as if someone else is projecting it. It seems to have physical weight to it and unimaginable volume (You try thinking of someone yelling at you and see if that hurts your head/ears, yea you cant do it!). Yup and I dont drink, do drugs, and Im not crazy!

Hmm, I've been hearin' voices, dogs barking, radios, etc. quite a bit lately.
It only happens when I've got my fan on, or an air purifier, something like that. Whenever I turn them off they stop. It really freaks me out though. |

I haven't attributed any auditory hallucinations of mine to anything more then that. Just machine noise or some sound almost like a conversation, always quiet and scourceless enough for me to be sure I'm just making it up. |

A few times (in moments of stress - remind me why am i telling you this again?) I've distinctly heard angels singing - it's like the clearest, cleanest, lovelyest sound. Sometimes it's just one, at other times there have been a small choir going on - I hope I get to hear that again one day.

When I was a kid a heard voices call my name sometimes, usually of people I knew, like my grandpa or something. It hasn't happened since I was like 4 though.
Actually, there was one time, I was maybe around 11 or 12, that I was half asleep, but kept hearing this voice that sounded like a child. I couldn't make out what it was saying, so I kept listening for it. Each time I heard it, it became a little clearer until eventually I understood that it was saying "Help me!" As soon as I got it, I sprung out of bed as fast as I could and walked into the living room. Then I realized that it was only the cat meowing, wanting to be let inside. Crazy how your mind can play tricks on you when you are half asleep.

I hear voices but 9 out of 10 times they are in German and I don't understand. The ones that I do understand usually tell me to strip and run wild through an airport.
