Strange smell in my room
One day i came home, walked up into my room and remarked a weird smell... it smelled a lot like feces, diahrea even. I had a bit of a cold so i just ignored it, figuring that i either passed gas or was just hallucinating. The next morning i woke up (having forgotten about the smell, to which i just got used to and ceased noticing) and i smelled it again. It smelled like shit, not very potent, but like shit.
This continued for a few days, every day i would spend atleast 30 minutes searching my room, sniffing everything trying to figure out where it was coming from... I never found anything that smelled funny, except for the air itself... i checked the basement, the attic, the bathroom, everything. I later remarked that the smell seemed to be strongest near the CENTER OF MY ROOM. the absolute center, as if there were some spirit hovering around in my room making it smell. People told me it was probably a dead mouse, but i found that to be a stupid suggestion, especially since the walls didn't smell. Over the course of a few days the smell got a little more rancid and irritated my nose a bit, it was starting to smell a little more like sewage or something rotting. all the sudden this morning it went away... completely. still don't know what it's from. the scary part is, last year around this time my grandmother died of intestinal cancer. During her last months she was bed ridden and was losing control of her bowels which often carried the same odor. Whenever i think of this in combination with the smell, my eyes start to water and i have this inexplicable impulse to cry. Another thing that was interesting is, the smell seemed to decrease and increase in severity over the course of the few days, and a few times it was actually stronger near my bed than near the center of the room. This was generally in the morning. now, near the center of the room is where i usually sit all day (infront of my computer). and quite obviously i spend my nights in bed.

weird man. did anyone else ever smell it? if it ever comes back again i would ask someone else to try and smell to make sure it isnt just you. having a cold, i thought you would loose your sense of smell. maybe it just your town fertilizing. when my town fertilizes i have to close my window because the horse shit smell drifts into my room.

Hmm, I was in a similar situation once.
I woke up very early in the morning and smelled something terribly nasty and wonderd what it was. I approached my desk lamp to turn on the light and felt something wet and squishy under my feet on the carpet. I found out the cat took a shit there. Then I spent the rest of my morning soaking my foot in hydrogen peroxide. |

Hey, it's more parsimonius than a constantly shitting granny-ghost coming to visit you. I mean, c'mon. Clean your room!

It happened to me once, it's from the wet laundry I left in the washing machine for two days...
Even though the laundry was properly washed, rinsed and EVENTUALLY dried, it still generates a really nasty smell AFTER it's dried... My father actually told me my room smells like shit literally.. I only got rid of the smell after I used some really powerful laundry booster. Now, I would never leave my wet laundry for more than a day again. Last edited by t193r7; 10-18-2004 at 09:18 PM.. |

All I can tell you is look for built up greese anywhere in pipes or by the window. Check next door if you got a cow living there .
All I can say is ya, check for a pipe leak of even a little hole in the wall somewhere letting air from outside which could be smelly. If you really can't find anything wrong I would suggest you get the old sovel get the to basement and dig, dig, dig, never know if theres a body under there . I remeber when I use to live in a house where some guy got assassinated. Didn't find out till years later... Thank goodness. If you have a dog look under your bed, long time ago found a little gift there, that explained the smell of shit. :P Wish you the best of luck on finding the source. |

I think it is likely that some sort of pipe or wiring system is present under your floor. If a septic pipe has a slight leak in the center of your room, that would definitely explain the smell. If the leak was clogged and the crap dried, it would cause a stoppage of the smell, and then if part of the crap broke off and it leaked a little more, that would also provide a less smelly recurrence of the odor.
I'm no plumber or anything, but that's my take on it.

I woke up one morning after a big night and the smell of shit was strong in the room. Yes, folks, I'd shit the bed during my drug induced coma. Shit was everywhere. I just threw the sheets away and had a couple of showers. That got rid of most of the smell.

Back to the point of the thread, I think if it were supernatural, then your grandma coming back to visit you could be accepted if you believe in the spirit world, but I hardly think she'd come back to shit the bed - I think she'd prefer for you not to remember her for her last days - perhaps the mafia built your house and buried someone in the concrete? perhaps your computer has developed some kind of smellavision and, as the internet is full of shit, is mimicking the pungent odour of cack.... or perhaps i'm stark raving BONKERS!?
