Barton Mansion demon - real or fake?

What do you reckon?

Is the demon in the video real or fake?

I vote fake. FYI, I don't believe in ghosts generally.

I don't think this in particular was a ghost for a couple of reasons.

First, they seem to be getting ready to sell a DVD on their experience. Shades of "Blair Witch Project" to me.... At the very least, they have an incentive to make you believe their story so they can sell more DVDs.

Second, did you notice how the camera and flashlights went to exactly the right place when the ghost/demon appeared? Made me think they knew where to look (note: in the story, he says that he stopped keeping the camera up to his eye after a while and just sort of pointed the camera where he happened to be looking. the resulting shot seems to well-aimed for that to be believed.)

Third, the story has weird dramatic flourishes, like the reference to feeling the gaze of the demon down to the marrow. Putting aside the apparent inability to use paragraphs, this kind of decorative flourish suggests that they are looking to dramatize the story (with the intent to sell it, presumably).

I would have been a lot more impressed with a dispassionate description of the events.

That's exatly the way I see it. They even reference Blair Witch with the rocks (which im sure has it's own scary tale as well). Plus why do they not show the footage from the rest of the house.

*I don't know too many people that would go back after that without a little thing called protection.

Good story none the less.

The video I watched doesn't show a THING. All I see is two people staring at a half open door, then running out like little girls. I never saw anything come THROUGH the door..

Munku look again. Something definately comes out of the closet. Whether it's fake or not is up to you.

The domain is registered to CNET networks, inc. That's the same company as cnet.com. Looks like they're going to try to jump out into the independent film industry. The whole thing reeks of movie promotion, but would it kill them to use a line break?

The plot:

Kids buy video camera
Kids get bored and drive around
Kids go into old manison, see an unboarded window, decide to go exploring
Kids look around, find evidence of a movie-esque Satanic ritual and completely fail to realize what it is
Kids freak out and leave

next night:
Kids go back
Two who felt "weird presence" go back, toher two go in, and feel weird presence as coyotes start howling
Kids notice that "satanic ritual" site has been moved slightly, find word "DIE" carved into wall (at this point I started laughing and needed a few moments to recover)
Kids get creped out by second floor, move up to third floor
Kids find all but one door closed, go int room where one conveniently recalls there having been a hidden passage
Kids find hidden passage stuffed with something, decide to back up
Demon pops out of closet chases kids out of house

two years later:

kids go back during daytime
kids determin that a 5'2" tall freind can't fit in closet, which is now described as "more of a built-in bookshelf without a door"

I couldn't watch the videos without cracking up. At first, they looked just like the crap my friends and I taped inside of a "haunted" house, but after seeing them freak out after spotting what appears to be Yoda on growth hormones, I burst out laughing.

Conclusion: I'll wait until it's on cable to watch it. I'd much rather see a movie produced based on CRXForum's story about rescuing his sister and her friend from the haunting at the Brubacher House

It just didn't look real. Period.

absen|t 08-25-2004 09:07 AM

it looked like they just got one of there mates to put on a bed sheet and come out of the closet with a lantern,.. no big deal. i mean in the story they say that he froze and couldnt move for a second but on the film the very second it come out he jumped up screaming.. so were was the pause??? and also why only show a like 5 second clip of the tape, why not show all of the other footage from that night in the house?? i mean that wat i would do if i had really witnessed something like that.. because u would want to show as much proof as possible so that people wud believe you!!

Sargeman 08-25-2004 11:45 AM

One thing I can't understand is why the hell a ghost/demon would need a lantern?

If I was a ghost/demon, and I'm not saying I'm not, I would of popped up right in front of them as they were headed down the stairs.

Also, why are ghosts mainly only attributed to spooky/dark/haunted places?
