the deep part of the pacific
 

Just curious if anyone knows anything about wierd stuff in the deepest portion of the pacific ocean- just noticed a trend in 2 navy vets i know- both with 20 + years in- neither will discuss anything about the deep parts of the pacific ocean, specificly wierd stuff picked up on sonar there- these guys do not know each other and live a few states apart- one was primarily on subs, and one on ships, both went silent during a discussion I had with them (seperately and a few months apart) regarding strange sonar trackings that showed up in a cnn article - basicly there are sounds in the ocean that no-one seems to be able to I.D. - I first talked to the guy that was on ships- he was a sonar tech, and it was therefore a point of interest to him, but after some talk I say, only half serious, that If I was an alien, then the deep part of the pacific is where I would go to make contact with the Govs of earth, as there 1- I would have the advantage, 2- only the major players. ie global powers could find me, 3 I would have the advantage and could use it without causing a panic
anyway, the sonar guy at that point shuts up entirely and gets evasive- so I figure he could be fucking with me, or whatever, and dont pursue it- then I meet this other guy who was on a sub, in th pacific, and postulate the same thing to him after a similar discussion, adding the theory that if I was the Gov that it would also be the best place for an uber secret whatever- he has an almost identicle reaction to the sonar guy- without hearing of him or anything - it was kind of erie/ wierd
so, has anyone heard anything or had similar experiences- kind of got to wondering now....

Maybe those sonar trackings are of the kraken? Or that big ass shark that can swallow a VW bug? You know they've found shark teeth as big as an adult male's hand washed up on shore that are fresh.

We know more about the surface of Mars....than the depths of our oceans. It is likely there are MANY things that will blow our minds deep down.
Aliens- I doubt it.
Really bizare big animals- Almost a given.

after watching Abyss and shitty clones I know for a fact there is a city down there full of alie.....oh wait...I hear that pesky reality calling again, be right back.

My wife had talked to oceanographic scientists in the Fl. panhandle who said that there were still sharks the size of Megalodon roaming the world's oceans, but the scientific community didn't want to alert the public and start a panic. Whether this is true or not, who can say, but I did hear it.

A deep ditch in the middle of a whole bunch of water sounds like a good place to hide military technology that's being developed for naval use. City under the sea, research lab, irate sea bass with lasers on their heads ... anyone's guess.

I don't see how any man made things can survive under such horrific pressures, but I'm sure some type of animals have figured it out.

I tried looking up sites that might have information about abnormal sonar/radar readings in the deep Pacific, but all I could find we're sites about Atlantis. Anyone else come up with anything?

I read something the other day that pointed out how much we spend on exploring worlds outside of the Earth's atmosphere where we have this 'world' right next to us under the ocean which hasn't even been partly explored.

I'm more concerned about the amoung of pollution that may be found at the bottom of the ocean. Who know what all that crap is doing to oceanic life?

It would make sense that aliens would land in the ocean given that the earth's surface is more aquaeous than solid. They may assume that the dominant life form live in the water.

I would think that any alien race worth their salt would be able to detect the dominant life form on this planet before they even got here. One thing the human race is not quiet. We pollute the hell out of this planet and the whole solar system, with light, sound, radio/tv broadcasts, not to mention the pollution that we normally think of. Hell there's a ring of trash floating around this ball that they'd sure to notice even if they were deaf.

My bet is that if there are aliens hiding in the deep parts of the oceans, they're hiding. From us. It's the one place we can't get to. So it'd be the safest place to monitor us.

Or there could just be a bunch of really weird creatures living down there. Who do you think eats the giant squid?

The design challenges of having a base in severe depths are beyond extreme. The pressures at the bottom of the ocean are incredible, and human beings simply aren't designed to accomodate them. I'm sure the government has some really cool research facilities, but I doubt they're at the bottom of the sea.

Imagine how much would be lost if you sprung a leak? At crush depth pressure, water can cut through steel.

Yeah.. that pressure would be insane, and they'd need self preserving power, unless it was built near those hot spots on the ground.. and then maybe a gen on it.. Dunno though.. unless we find a way to map the surface a bit better than we do now.. can't really say a thing.

probably not...only because you would need a difference in pressure to drive something...push a piston or turn a turbine to create the force needed to drive a generator....

I have always been interested in the ocean's depths since I was a little boy. It is sooo interesting to think that we know more about the moon than do we about what exists in our oceans. There is no doubt there are hundreds of creatures living in the depths that have never had human eyes fixed on them. It's certain some of those species are absolutely spectacular. Very neat stuff.

Yes, you're right, there is the possibility that an alien race visiting Earth may operate on completely different wavelengths than humans. Different perceptions, different emphasis on certain things.

Theoretically we could be visited by a race of alien's that were no larger than fleas, they might arrive at earth and completely miss the hulking beasts that are man. The possibilities are virtually endless.

Which would actually suck more than anything. We're being visited by a highly advanced race from somewhere out in the galaxy and they're so alien they don't even recognize us as sentient life forms.

I'm active duty CG - and spent 5 years on a patrol boat out of Guam. Spent lots of time near and over the Marianas Trench - even participated in a swim call over the Challenger Deep. Never saw or sensed anything wierd.

And no, you can't see the bottom.....

I read Michael Crichton's 'Sphere' recently, that was a good read for some deep under-the-sea spaceship-finding and big-thing-trying-kill-them-all creepyness. It fits very well with this thread, I recommend everyone go out and read it (then watch the movie)...
