Ghosts and Science.
I pose a question for those who frequant the Paranoia board.
If the presence of ghosts/spirits and such are almost common knowledge to most people, why do we not see credible scientists performing research on the subject? Why do we not see credible ghost/spirit coverage in documentaries and newscasts? -SF Last edited by saltfish; 06-07-2004 at 06:38 PM.. |

I notice every spelling mistake people make too, but if you think about it- the fact that we still know what people are talking about is one of the things that makes us superior to computers
As far as ghosts & science.... I would love to see more research into it, but unfortunately it's not very practical. Ghosts are no threat to our National Security, nor would more knowledge about them benefit us very much.. so therefore the research funds are not exactly flowing strong in that direction. |

The Catch .22 is that an investigator takes a credibility hit merely by investigating the paranormal. It's also complicated by having to weed urban legend from tangible clues, sources unwilling to talk about their experiences, lonely people looking for attention, the power of suggestion, and a consistent lack of physical evidence.

What is the common knowledge you speak of? And exactly is your definition of a ghost?

I would be very interested to see science prove the existance of ghosts. I believe they exist. I've heard too many stories not to, and I'm not talkin your standard "Boo" ghost stories, though I haven't seen one myself. It would be really cool to see some research into the phenomenon.

It'd be cool, but I don't think our Science is evolved(advanced) enough to comprehend ghosts correctly. Of course, just because Science can't handle it yet doesn't mean it does not exist.

There's a study going down here at the moment, concentrating on the effects of electromagnetic fields on people =) There have been quite a few studies, but nothing large scale. The biggest problem is the almost total lack of physical evidence. Nothing physical usually means nothing proved.

How exactly would you perform research on the existence of ghosts. The experimental process involves forming and testing a hypothesis. It's very difficult to see how this could be done.

shut up. Just because America happens to be a very skeptical nation, doesn't mean you have the right to scoff at the few spiritual.
I got an idea ars: spend some time in Africa or Japan, and you'll see most people take the spiritual world much more seriously than the average American.
