my sister used one and it said something about a guy committing suicide in our attic. I guess she said he like started a fire up there and burned to death. Thats a creative way to kill yourself, sure enough all the boards up in our attic are charred to hell. Still dont think they work though

First, a disclaimer: I am a skeptic.

Here's my take on how Ouija boards work: Basically, it's a form of automatic writing. If you're a good hypnotic subject, you can, under hypnosis, allow your subconscious to essentially write for you, using pen and paper. It's sometimes tough to pull off, but it does happen.

Ouija boards seem to me to be an extension of this principle. If you're the only one holding the pointer thing, and you take yourself into a semi-hypnotic state, you can let your subconscious do the talking. All you need is someone to be there to record what is pointed to, so you don't have to focus on the board as you do it.

I'm sure there are a bunch of people who will disagree with this interpretation of it all, but there you go.

It does move simply by nerves.
I've got the same game made in the 60's.
It's worked everytime for me as long as you lightly put your fingertips on the pointer.
You can't do it by yourself.
BUTT !
It's never spelled out anything of meaning unless you manipulate it.
It's bogus.
Don't be scared of a stinking board game.

sheesh

Dudes, i used it when i was in 4th + 5th grade....pretty accurate. Yet kind of scary. Parents returned it when told that "it was the devil..."

It was damn accurate though. I always got some chic from saturn that would talk to me.

Eitherway, once i asked who liked a good friend of mine. It started spelling Mea, and i asked was it meagan. Then it moved on to "Yes." Sure enough, a few months later, my other friend says, "guess who meagan likes....chad (name of friend #1)." That's the most vivid example.....

It might work through the supernatural, it might work through the psychological, eitherway it worked.

I'm almost certain that this is just a big scam. It's hyped up so that the creators can get money, and out of curiosity we have all fallen for it. Including me! Now I hope that I am wrong and there is more to this activity than meets the brain; but I seriously doubt it. I've seen a special where the people using the board were blindfolded, and before they started the board was rotated. These people moved the planchette to where they THOUGHT the letters were when in fact they were getting it completely wrong.

Now I'm not saying that this is the proof that it's not real, it's simply an example of how it works. I've tried using it multiple times with myself and many other people, two of which who actually believed it would work. I take a neutral position on the matter because I simply don't know for sure.

Another interesting thing to note is that the house I've tried it in seems 'clean'. And by that I mean I feel totally safe here and have had no supernatural experiences, where as in other places I have seen things and heard things. My parents had as well. I plan to use my Ouija board in other places that do not feel 'clean' and report my findings to the world. I simply do not see how a spirit would contact you through such an item when requested to and NOT with other things. So if I use a Ouija board, bad things will happen right? But what's the difference between asking a spirit to move a planchette and asking a spirit to move a keyboard? Or type something out? Makes no sense, Ouija boards are not magically enchanted (well, maybe with M A G I C corporate oil to attract money..)

And to the people claiming that it has worked, I highly suggest you find whoever your partner was and sit them down for a serious talk. Ask them if they did or did not move it, because I am certain that they did.

"Fake as shit"....hmmmm that's not a very scientific explanation.
Ever since my teens & onward...I always get a laugh from skeptics about stuff like this.
I remember clearly in college a "supposedly well trained " friend read my tarot cards and they all said Death & in near future and yeah, I was a bit scared. But I wasn't too worried -but oddly, 2 days later I got the call from home that Grandpa had died. And he wasn't sick or even that old. But the card showed a young woman sitting on her bedside crying and when I got that call, I was in bed. Ever since that time, I have never had Tarot cards read to me.

Perhaps the Ouiji Bord isn't your "medium". Give it to an empath and have that person use it and let you know if they have had any "activity". Or take it to Stonehenge, now that's a trippy place and I think it's vortex vibes might "kick start" that mother - for lack of better terms.

Let us know what happens. You just need a trusted or more intense medium.

My mom recently delivered my old Ouija board to me. My SO and roommate were talking about trying it during a party last weekend. I was so disappointed when they decided not to. I want to see what happens when two totally rational men use it.

You can't lecture someone on being unscientific when you just explained your tarot card story and are serious about it. Correlation != Causation.

It may be a freaky coincidence, but this sounds like a huge case of confirmation bias.

Never done a ouiji board but i'm 50/50 on the 'unconsiously moving it' vs 'establishing contact' and could go either way. I don't think your board is 'broken'. get enough people to do it with you and eventually someone's gonna move it around purposefully. Like the one post that said they kept talking to this named demon... it wouldn't surprise me if the same person kept spelling the name.

Tarot cards i'm even less likely to believe. It's almost like horoscopes - you can read anything about your character into a vague description. like the death card, it doesn't mean 'death is coming' it means a rebirth, a change of direction in life.... Plus if you get a tarot reading one day. you'll get a completely different one an hour later.

I believe some sort of ghost type beings exist...however I don't believe they talk to you through ouija boards. IMCO its a gimmick thats lasted an unbelievably long time. However, I have never tried one and would find it an interesting experiment, however unlikely.

Perhaps the licence has expired? Have you tried renewing it?

All those letters and numbers would be a bugger to enter on a wooden board with a glass though

Because angry spirits just sit around waiting to use Parker Brothers Ouija boards as gateways into this realm. Yup.

Sorry, I don't believe in Ouija boards. Seems like it would be easier for ghosts to move them on their own rather than through your fingers.
