Ted's caving story
I ran across this story a few days ago. Its a very well written account of what happened when two cavers decided to explore a tiny hole in a cave. Then expanded and expaned the whole until one person could squeeze through. And then, weird stuff begins to happen....
The debate is wheather on not the story is true. Either way, its a very good story. Its super long, but very entertaining. http://www.holyshiite.com/caver/page1.html Enjoy.. |
Definitely creepy. Could really be something living in the cave... Then again, a person's state and fear of the unknown can paint some weird pictures in their mind's eye...
Wow, that was an awesome story! Pure Lovecraft, if any of you have read his work - it has the same dread, fear of the unknown and terror that this story has.
It's very well-written, and has a feasible aspect to it - you get dragged into the mood, and you're eager to know what will happen. I just don't think anyone updating a page would put a link to a page that is not there yet, and here I am talking about the last page which has a broken link on it. I'm going to recommend this to some people, it's very well written and scary as hell! |
Damn, what happened to ted? Maybe this is what was down there... http://www.anomalies-unlimited.com/CaveBeing.html

I'm about halfway through and I'm pretty sure I know what happens based on hu-man's comment -- the last journal entry tells of some seriously creepy shit and then the next link where they're finally supposed to have gotten in leads to no where, meaning they were never to be seen again :) The story's real entertaining, and very well written -- almost too well-written to be a real personal journal. Most journals (look at web blogs for example) aren't as well developed and continuous -- they're more like diaries.
You must also consider that he was writing for a specific audience since, for example, he devotes a page to explaining the details of caving. It's probably just a piece of well-written, compelling fiction, just as I suppose John Titor is. Just like that, for those who "want to believe" it's even more compelling! Oh yeah, the design's real annoying because of the color scheme. Which leads you to pay more attention, and perhaps tend to get more freaked out!! I wonder if that was intentional.... EDIT: I forgot to mention that the fact that he nicknamed it "The Tomb" seems overly constructed to create suspense... |
Fascinating. Nice style to it. Even the ending has style. Yeah, its long, but its a good read. I'll never go caving, so I suppose this is the closest I'll get.
very interesting story, i cant believe i sat here and read the whole thing. The format gets a little hard to read, but it is very interesting and makes you want to read more.. great work on the part of the author...
Yes, the colour scheme really hurt my eyes, too. Especially after reading for a long time, and then going to some other page with a white background. I had blurry lines everywhere!
How did he get the early shot of his hand going DOWN INTO the hole..? O_O
I thought he just took off his glove and hung it in the hole, if that's the shot you're talking about.

Great story. Fiction, although almost certainly using a real caving adventure as a (very clever) spine of believability. Fun stuff.
Very creepy, but the end was very frustrating.. GAH.
OK, I've read the whole thing now, and I will definately say "fiction". Also, I will strongly re-recommend House of Leaves to people who enjoyed this caving story.
I also checked the pages themselves: all of them were "last modified October 4, 2002", significantly after the "5/19/01" date on the first page. I also looked at the source of the first and last pages, but nothing interesting there. |
Ah, I have to stop coming to the paranoia board. Just get myself freaked out.
Uhhh. Wow. Uhmmmm, yeah. That's all I can really say right now.....
wow .. that was great.. part of me wants to believe everything ...
quite lovecraftian yes. what happened to him! why the HTTP 404 !! |
conveniently forgets the camera....conveniently the pictures dont develop. Personally I'm a skeptic, but that was damn creepy anyways.
Whats the deal with the non-existant page after he leaves for the second trip with Joe into the cave? Did anyone get anything after that, or what? |
That was a pretty cool story. I started reading it last night, but couldn't finish, so I read the end this morning. There is no doubt in my mind that it's fiction, but like many of you have already said it's very entertaining anyway.
I find it a bit far-fetched though. Why the need for such panic? He didn't even see anything. The abrupt ending was great though. The reader is ready to finally get some closure after reading the story, and there is none. I was a little bothered at the beginning of the story, though. There was no mention of what the weird occurences were until about halfway into it. But since it's written for entertainment, it makes sense to keep the suspence high. It's just not something I think a real person would do if it were an actual website. Eitherway, I'll recommend this site to a few friends as well. I bet they would enjoy it. |
Whew, thought my posts on the previous cave story thread were erased. Didn't think I was banned or anything. :D
Bravo! Awesome kept me on the edge of my seat.
His story keeps you on you feet even though its fiction still an entertaining read
so is he dead? - would someone please tell me what happened (even ifyou have to make it up)
I think someone is taking a creative writing class and decided to post it here. I got sick of reading it and when I finished I was dissapointed, needs work but I'm sure that during the critique it git shredded.
i need an ending that was some freaky shit if i was in the dark and i heard something from where i just passed the camera would be the last thing id think about knowin that i heard something i shouldnt have coming from my only way out
interesting story..but hmm not sure if its believable
good story....too bad there weren't more pics
I cant get to page 11, wtf?
That guy is a Very Bad Caver. Bad bad bad....Sledgehammers...what was he thinking! Ass...and I've been through tighter spots than that 'tomb' thing...the limit to where you can pass is almost alway your pelvis, (shoulders bend, fat moves) and most cavers will measure that before they go in so as not to attempt anything too small.. Nice story though.
