Hiding Out

Electronic ghosts?

So I log onto my computer one day and do the usual start up stuff, turn on project dolphin, AIM, open a browser window, and turn on Kazaa. But it was really odd. When I looked at Kazaa all my video files, no not that kind most anime and music videos, had been deleted. Now no one else uses my computer much less has my password. Now if it was a virus it would have just kinda killed all the stuff in the Kazaa shared folder wouldn't it have? And to my knowledge no one had rubbed a magnet on my computer.

So, anyone ever have something like this happen?

Yes, someone deleted all my jpeg files. Some asshole on Kazaa uploaded some software to me that did this.
Maybe you installed some software but than for video files.

My sister-in-law got a virus that made it so she could not see any of her files on Kazaa. Eventually she managed to view them but they were mixed with ALL of her other computer files - audio or not. They weren't deleted but it was a virus. She cleaned for viruses, ran scandisk and defrag and things are back to normal. Hubby and she won't use Kazaa much if any anymore because they've both had trouble with bogus file problems from it. It is creepy when you discover something like that. You feel safe until...

The Kazaa network is saturated with nasty things like that nowadays. Lots of viruses, corrupt files and misnomers.

I use Ares (google it). It reminds me of the Morpheus network back in the day before the masses discovered it. I think that's your best bet. It also uses hash indexing to find your media files so I don't it will be a problem for you again.

This is one of the reasons I got rid of Kazaa.

yeah, my sister was downloading shit from kazaa and she downloading something that had a virus type thing. what it did was after she would close down Kazaa it would leave a portal open between her and this person she got the thing from.

i think it also hunted down passwords to programs and shit, because somehow all the passwords to AOL had been hacked and changed and the profiles had turned into porno shit. it was pretty annoying, but easy to take care of.

Yes, the same thing happened to me...all my porn was erased by some other Kaaza user's virus. Thank god for all of my backup magazines and the local hookers. It took me a week to build back the blisters that were once there!
