Ants are taking over....

I'm starting to think ants are taking over the world. Is it just me or are there more and more of the little buggers each year. They seem to multiply and appear everwhere.....

someone mentioned a ways to get them.

for total eradication, mix powered boric acid with powdered sugar, leave in bowl, let ants take back to queen and kill her. no queen = no colony.

another, leave a thin layer of sugar outside, when it's covered with ants, either kill them or toss in trash can. this puts a severe dent in their population. keep that up and you'll have the colony under check for the next day or two.

try cleaning your crib. keeping it clean and try not to give them any water either.

tape up their entrance if you know where it is and pesticide them and a year later keep it up and they will be gone or mostly gone

I like the brown ants in my backyard. They have striped bubble butts. It's cute. Also, they forage/scavenge meaning no trails of ants and no raiding my food because they like to eat dead plants.
One of my attempts at photographing one earlier this summer:

Actually, if ants stay outside my house, they are neat little things. Anything you can drop from any height and it won't die wins in my book.

Look on the bright side:

At least they're not as creepy as centipedes.

Back in Iran at my old old place we had a lot of ants since we kept three evergreen trees in our backyard, they loved those for some reason.

There was a certain species of ant that was larger, looked a little bit more like a small spider because of its longer legs but had the body of an ant. And it would bite you too. The funny thing about that is, when I was a kid I'd pick one of them up with my hand and their bite wasn't that strong, so I'd let them bite my hand because it tickled a bit.

Other fun things with ants I did were frying them with a magnifying glass, and spraying them with soapy water.

And ants can't take over the world, especially wherever it is fairly cold, closer to the poles.

I saw a program on Discovery about some ants in a rainforest that lived in symbiosis with a tree. They lived off the tree, and they kept the tree neat and alive. Anyway, another tree started growing next to their tree, and it was taking the sunlight from the ants' tree. So they gathered up on a twig which then bent onto the other tree, climbed across and proceeded to kill the tree in some way, biting off leaves and such. So, the rival tree died, and they could continue living on their tree.
I think ants could take over the world, if they felt like it. Imagine 10 billion ants crawling all over - everywhere. We'd all die. DIE, I TELL YOU! DIIIEEE!!!1

i've notice something this summer that i've never seen before.......on two different sidewalks around my house, i've seen this huge mass of ants on one of their anthills. i don't even know how to begin to estimate how many there were, but from 10 ft away (both times in the evening), the mass looked like a dark brown glove or something laying on the sidewalk - but slowly, almost imperceptibly moving.

fuckin' creepy. i showed my 3-yr old the second one i found & he immediately deemed it an "ant party."

A few years ago, at a trip to Bali, I saw some big ants
(about |-----------------| this big), being pulled by some mysterious force towards holes in the ground. When I looked closer, I realized the big guys were being dragged by large gangs of really small ants (almost too small to see). The big ants were defenseless against the small ones, because their jaws was too big to hurt the small guys. The big ones were transported into the small ants' nest, surely to face a cruel death...

Those ants sure are some bad-ass mofo's.

In 45 million years ant queens will be smarter than an average homo sapien sapien, and will control her mini-minions telephatically. Course if we did kill nature and ourselves before then, it seems our societal past time is punching nature in the balls and trying to make it our bitch via stabbing various parts...
