Freaked out in Basements,

Any of you go into a basement by your selves and just get freaked out?
There are some basements, that when I go down into them by myself I feel a darkness engulf me, and like a thousand hot chills. I feel like any second something really fucked up is gonna happen,
Like there is something there that wants to get me but cant, and is sure the hell trying to find a way to.

I just get back upstairs as fast as i can, and its like I have to fight the darkness and fear in order to make it to the staircase and back up, like somehow it is trying to paralize my brain from letting me escape.

This really freaks me out, has it ever happened to anyone else or am I just a pussy?

clydestinkybeef 08-26-2003 08:57 PM

That stuff used to happen to me all the time. When I'd be alone in my house, going downstairs to the living room in pitch black kind of spooked me. I would always turn on lights whereever I went, and left them on. Perhaps I'm just a pussy and am afraid of the dark.

yoshi 08-27-2003 04:22 PM

yeah, in my house growing up I used to feel that way. there was a door upstairs that led to downstairs. I always kept it locked so "nothing" could come up. And if I had to go downstairs, I would do so quickly with all the lights on.

orange monkeyee 08-28-2003 06:40 PM

i live in the basement. i am the fat ogress that haunts it ( only after dropping a 2 foot cornlog really). probably more than you wanted to know but hey! whatever.

MacGnG 08-28-2003 10:27 PM

that happens to me sometimes, it's just weird and freaky.

Darkness is a bitch; so just pimp slap it :p

TerresqueÜ 08-28-2003 11:58 PM

Basements are kinda naturally freaky, all those dark corners you can't see anything from and those looming shadows over yo-...I'm not helping am I?

jujueye 08-29-2003 02:15 PM

Yeah, it happens to me sometimes. And people I know. I think it comes from too much horror as a child, and a far too vivid imagination. So instaed of imagining awful things, just imagine Barney the dinosaur down there, playing with his big purple crank.....it works every time.

Baldrick 08-29-2003 05:26 PM

Unfinished basements at nighttime scare the hell out of me.

I was about six or seven years old when we moved into a new home, that had an unfinished basement. That evening, my Dad asked me to go downstairs and grab a hammer for him. While I was down there, I heard a ghostly type voice whisper my name - and that's all it took for me to lose it... I screamed blue murder, and my folks came running downstairs to "save" me.

Now for the last twenty years, I can't enter an unfinished basement without almost breaking into a cold sweat...

Going in my basement freaks me out to, i don't really know why, probably just the fact that it's pretty dark down there.

slimshaydee 08-29-2003 06:47 PM

I don't have a basement, and I've never been in one, so I dont know. Australian's dont have basements

h2ogo69 08-29-2003 06:57 PM

Mr. Moe 08-29-2003 08:46 PM

I was scared of my basement until i moved down here, now it just has the home like feeling to it. I am scared of looking out windows at night though, i always think something will be staring back at me. (one time a racoon was sitting beside my bedroom window, i had a nearby baseball bat in hand until i realized what it was)

Xell101 08-29-2003 09:26 PM

My friends basment has no ventilation except the bottom of the door. It feels like death

That's because you're already down under...

Penguin 08-30-2003 09:35 AM

It freaks me out when im walking through the hallway at 2 or 3am. Feels like something is following me, keep looking over my shoulder even though logically i know there is nothing there.
Doesnt stop me scrambling back to bed though, i guess im a wuss to

Revo1ver 09-01-2003 02:53 PM

Whenever I sleep in my basement I get sick, last time I did, I woke up with 102 degree fever. No one else does though. I find it kinda freaky.

And whenever I walk up my stairs, I always hear someone walking behind me, although it probably just an echo.

neddy65 09-07-2003 09:32 AM

BAsements? no, but cellars with dirt floors and walls scare the shit outta me. Anything could burrow in there right?Ewww!!!

Kaos 09-08-2003 07:50 PM

Once it did...One day I was alone at home and playing pool in the basement. I thought I heard the phone ring. So I go running up the stairs, but no ringing. SO I go back down and about 30 seconds later, I hear the phone ringing again. Run up the stairs but no phone is ringing.

After the third time, I got freaked out and got the hell outta the house. It just creeped me out.

motdakasha 09-09-2003 01:16 AM

I have a finished basement and I still think it's creepy.

spurswood 09-16-2003 04:43 AM

basements

Turn the fuckin lights on

brer lapin 09-16-2003 05:10 AM

I hate dark basements, but only because I'm afraid I'll walk into a spider web I can't see. Spiders are scary.

Geoff 09-16-2003 03:18 PM

mine is office buildings at night with all the lights off....unless i have a female with me....then i turn the lights off on purpose :)

prosequence 09-16-2003 06:04 PM

Try this:
Have someone stand ont he other side of the door or about ten feet away (jokers/assholes not recommended). Turn off the lights and lay down on the floor. Fight the feeling to get up and flee, talk to the person about what you are feeling. After each negative/scared statement, say a positive one.
ie. "Holy shit I'm scared!!" follow it with "But I'm getting better."
After about ten minutes of doing this, it should take most of the fear away.

Lebell 09-16-2003 10:57 PM

Basements don't bother me....

...unless it is a really old house that has one of those HUGE round furnaces with all the arms coming out of it like a giant mutated octopus...

....AAAAAIIIIIEEEEE!!!!

raeanna74 09-29-2003 06:27 PM

Used to live in basement apts for the first 3 years of our married life. when we were living in one basement apt that was "finished" sortof we went and watched "House on Haunted Hill" Hubby was working evenings and there were a couple times after watching that movie that I just had to leave the lights all on when I went to bed. I told him that I just wanted him to be able to see to get to bed and was too tired to get up to turn them all out. EEEEEEK.
Otherwise if I'm in a particularly creepy basement and I've watched something that put some ideas in my head more than likely I will just sing or talk loudly even if it's to myself. Hopefully no one is around to hear my babbling. lol I always feel like an idiot afterwards too.

veruca 09-29-2003 06:40 PM

i HATE basements...luckily i live in florida and we can't have them...but our home up north has one, and i NEVER EVER go down there....there is a door in there, that leads outside, and it is locked, but you never know who will be waiting for you, and i cannot look out windows at night, i completly freak out

Vyxen 10-05-2003 04:22 AM

Oh man, I used to be terrified of my basement for the longest time! When I was little I had a dream that I walked down the steps and saw my dad working on some project.. he looked up, smiled at me, and suddenly these huge tiger like monsters jumped out of the darkness and tore him to bloody pieces... whew got a little shiver just out of typing that lol.

Anyway, since I lived down there with my fiance for a year the fear pretty much went all away. Well, except sometimes when I'm tired and all the lights are off, I run up the stairs as fast as I can because I get that old feeling those monsters will grab my ankles from behind or under on the steps. lol =X

10-05-2003 04:24 AM

I have a ghost in my basement.

tekaweni 10-06-2003 08:03 AM

When I was a kid an uncle stayed with us for a few months and we didnt have enough bedrooms, so I lived in the basement. Mostly with the lights on :(

*giggles*

Anyway, there are certain basements (especially in old houses) where I can go down there and just get this gut wrenching feeling. I'm not scared of the dark and I'm pretty open to a lot of different things but it's just sometimes where you get this engulfing feelings, yes. I know what you mean. But it doesn't have to be just basements, it can be a house in general.
