Freaked out in Basements,
Any of you go into a basement by your selves and just get freaked out?
There are some basements, that when I go down into them by myself I feel a darkness engulf me, and like a thousand hot chills. I feel like any second something really fucked up is gonna happen, Like there is something there that wants to get me but cant, and is sure the hell trying to find a way to. I just get back upstairs as fast as i can, and its like I have to fight the darkness and fear in order to make it to the staircase and back up, like somehow it is trying to paralize my brain from letting me escape. This really freaks me out, has it ever happened to anyone else or am I just a pussy?

That stuff used to happen to me all the time. When I'd be alone in my house, going downstairs to the living room in pitch black kind of spooked me. I would always turn on lights whereever I went, and left them on. Perhaps I'm just a pussy and am afraid of the dark.

Basements are kinda naturally freaky, all those dark corners you can't see anything from and those looming shadows over yo-...I'm not helping am I?

Yeah, it happens to me sometimes. And people I know. I think it comes from too much horror as a child, and a far too vivid imagination. So instaed of imagining awful things, just imagine Barney the dinosaur down there, playing with his big purple crank.....it works every time.

Unfinished basements at nighttime scare the hell out of me.
I was about six or seven years old when we moved into a new home, that had an unfinished basement. That evening, my Dad asked me to go downstairs and grab a hammer for him. While I was down there, I heard a ghostly type voice whisper my name - and that's all it took for me to lose it... I screamed blue murder, and my folks came running downstairs to "save" me. Now for the last twenty years, I can't enter an unfinished basement without almost breaking into a cold sweat...

Going in my basement freaks me out to, i don't really know why, probably just the fact that it's pretty dark down there.

I was scared of my basement until i moved down here, now it just has the home like feeling to it. I am scared of looking out windows at night though, i always think something will be staring back at me. (one time a racoon was sitting beside my bedroom window, i had a nearby baseball bat in hand until i realized what it was)

It freaks me out when im walking through the hallway at 2 or 3am. Feels like something is following me, keep looking over my shoulder even though logically i know there is nothing there.
Doesnt stop me scrambling back to bed though, i guess im a wuss to

Once it did...One day I was alone at home and playing pool in the basement. I thought I heard the phone ring. So I go running up the stairs, but no ringing. SO I go back down and about 30 seconds later, I hear the phone ringing again. Run up the stairs but no phone is ringing.
After the third time, I got freaked out and got the hell outta the house. It just creeped me out. |

Try this:
Have someone stand ont he other side of the door or about ten feet away (jokers/assholes not recommended). Turn off the lights and lay down on the floor. Fight the feeling to get up and flee, talk to the person about what you are feeling. After each negative/scared statement, say a positive one. ie. "Holy shit I'm scared!!" follow it with "But I'm getting better." After about ten minutes of doing this, it should take most of the fear away.

Used to live in basement apts for the first 3 years of our married life. when we were living in one basement apt that was "finished" sortof we went and watched "House on Haunted Hill" Hubby was working evenings and there were a couple times after watching that movie that I just had to leave the lights all on when I went to bed. I told him that I just wanted him to be able to see to get to bed and was too tired to get up to turn them all out. EEEEEEK.
Otherwise if I'm in a particularly creepy basement and I've watched something that put some ideas in my head more than likely I will just sing or talk loudly even if it's to myself. Hopefully no one is around to hear my babbling. lol I always feel like an idiot afterwards too.

Oh man, I used to be terrified of my basement for the longest time! When I was little I had a dream that I walked down the steps and saw my dad working on some project.. he looked up, smiled at me, and suddenly these huge tiger like monsters jumped out of the darkness and tore him to bloody pieces... whew got a little shiver just out of typing that lol.
Anyway, since I lived down there with my fiance for a year the fear pretty much went all away. Well, except sometimes when I'm tired and all the lights are off, I run up the stairs as fast as I can because I get that old feeling those monsters will grab my ankles from behind or under on the steps. lol =X |

Anyway, there are certain basements (especially in old houses) where I can go down there and just get this gut wrenching feeling. I'm not scared of the dark and I'm pretty open to a lot of different things but it's just sometimes where you get this engulfing feelings, yes. I know what you mean. But it doesn't have to be just basements, it can be a house in general. |
