Lights out for safety

With lights out on the east coast, major cities in both countries are tingling with unease.... hacker.... .terrorist..... big bug flew into the wires and shorted out the system ?
Interesting to say the least... any suggestions?

It's been narrowed down to simple overload of old hardware that was too expensive to replace.

prosequence 08-14-2003 07:40 PM

One piece of hardware is able to put millions in the dark, unplug the economy, prevent travel and put a lot of lives in danger. Hmm, sounds like an intersting piece of hardware, maybe I can buy it when it gets replaced. Never kow when it could come in handy.

It's amazing how quickly people jump to conclusions after september 11. Anything unusual that happens people cry oh no terrorism

Johnny Rotten 08-14-2003 10:03 PM

Not one piece of hardware. "Old hardware" was the term I used. Lightning will tend to overload "old hardware."

giblfiz 08-14-2003 10:28 PM

this is clearly a cover up of .... GODZILLA!!

Latch 08-14-2003 11:30 PM

Godzilla is sooooo above all this. Terrorizing Japan entertains him more.

edit: eye kan't spel

New, old, I still would like to have the hardware that can cause all the grief. Old eh.... hmmm, if it's known that it can overloaded, and still was not replaced... sounds like grounds for a lawsuit or two.....

Just wait, now our electricity bills will triple so that they can replace the stuff. You'd think they would figure it out after '65, or at the latest, after the exact same thing happened in '77.

Now we pay extra, they cut costs on replacing equipment, and pocket the difference.

Hi it's not like the actual "hardware" caused the problem it was a malfuntion of the hardware, not like a button that some dude presses to put out everyone of electricity.

Just remember the black out the next time you see someone protesting the installation of High Voltage lines in the neighbourhood.

<I>"If you try to build new transmission lines, you ... have to kill somebody," said state Assemblyman Roderick Wright, chairman of the Utilities and Commerce Committee. "While everyone wants more power, no one wants power plants built near them." </I>

Same old NIMBY story.
