Fear of Flying?

I am TERRIFIED of flying. :( Even though I know your chances of dying in a plane crash are astronomical, I still don't do it. I'm so scared...I guess it's just the thought of plummeting 35,000 that scares me.

Anyone else here afraid of flying?

no but if you really think about it, i'm sure it would be less painful to die than getting hit by a car flying through the air sliding along the asphalt and having all your skin scraped off.

Gee thanx now I'm scared to drive. I live in NJ so its scary enough, but now with that thought in my head its going to be twice as scary.

i was scared like the first time but there was a cute girl to hold my hand :D that made it better, but it really wasnt that bad. take off and landing suck but it's pretty much like a really big bus if you think about it

I started flying when I was 6, so the only thing that bothers me about it are the rude people who shove their seats all the way back in your lap :)

I am terrified of heights now but only certain heights. I can drive along a high cliff and there is no problem. It is when I have to walk up to an edge with the possibility of falling that I get all scared. This dates from when I tried skydiving at the end of college. I never used to have a fear of heights and now I do.

I have a fear of heights, but it's only in like the 12 ft-1,000 foot range. After that, I just like the view. I can fly w/o a problem, except for the first few and last couple minutes of the flight....

I just don't like take off and landing. And that your ears pop, thats irritating.

I used to love flying. Now I'm terrified. I have close to 100,000 frequent flier miles from my last job, and I'm afraid to use them, why? Because of 9/11. Yup, scared me shitless. I was supposed to be on one of those planes. My trip got cancelled three days before. So yeah, I'm afraid to fly now. I have flown once since 9/11 and only because I had to for work and I drank the entire way out there...(I flew first class with some of those FF miles, heh).

I'm glad I eased your fears :D

Driving is approx 65 times as risky as flying. Assuming you drove the same distance. I don't see why everyone is so paranoid about it. I love to fly. My dad's also a Captain, but hey.

If you have never flown you must have missed out of some killer good vacations!

Do it! Take a coupla Valium and snooze most of the way to someplace Way More Interesting than "no where, dude. "

And good luck.

I'd recommend not jumping off planes then, my wife wants me to go skydiving but sometimes I really wonder if I *want* to.. Seems kinda scary to me :)

I don't have a fear of flying just a fear of airport employees. I always get hassled because I have thick black hair and a goatee. Racial profiling at its best I guess.

I never thought much about the safety factor when flying. Car wrecks are every single day frequent, plane disasters of any sort are not. I didn't hear about it so it never came ot mind. I was terrified of learning to drive though. So many boobs out tooling around in their personal space occupier in a less than safe fashion. The actual flying part, not your luggage, but the flying is organized far better than driving and for that reason alone I would not be concerned flying.
