My house is being overrun by fruit flies
 

They are everywhere.

I can't go to the bathroom in my own house anymore because they are all over the windows, sinks, counters, and the toilet.

I can't make myself a sandwich because somehow they made their way inside the bread bag.

I don't even go in the garage anymore because they smother you.

The only safe haven is my basement where I only go to sleep now.

I don't know how to get rid of them. I've tried bug spray, sealing off everything that could give them energy, and that weak ass funnel in the jar technique. I dont have enough money for an exterminator and it's probably not too healthy anyways.

Do you have something attracting them? Do a sweep of your house. Make sure there isn't any trash laying out, don't let food lay out.

Do you have AC?

Freeze the fuckers.

They'll get really slow if you can drop the temp in your house enough. Then just sweep em up.

Might want to clean up the decaying corpses. I find them to be bug MAGNETS.

Seriously, man....get an exterminator, most offer payment plans...that's not at all normal (captain obvious to the rescue).

Maybe your funnel in the jar technique needs a little help. Let's start from the beginning.

Get a large paper dixie cup and fill with rottable fruit pieces. Orange juice works, so do bannanas. Cover the cup with saran wrap and seal with a rubber band. Make an indentation in the saran wrap so that it goes about 1/3 of the way in the cup and then place a small hole in the center of the saran wrap. Give that version a try and don't forget to place TONS of them in your house.

had this problem once. Someone had thrown some cherries away in a downstairs trash can. It was impossible to tell they were there until I'd emptied the trashbag into the bin. Ugh... talk about nasty.

clean up your house, get rid of all the food that's not in cans, etc. and call a professional.

Try to find the nest, We had an infestation of fruit flies several years back and we found the nest in a bag of old fabric strips my brother and I used to dress up as mummies for halloween. Maybe you have something similar??

Fruit flies are tiny government robots. They are spying on you. Do not use your computer when they are in the room...

Check your indoor plants, too. In my house the lay eggs in the moist soil.

Get rubbing alcohol and load up some misting spray bottles like window cleaner. Attack them at will. Be warned about rubbing alcohol damaging things ( plants, yourself, furniture) My friend and I had to attack his bathroom that was a haze of fruitflies. We bombed the bitches out with a raid fogger can and a ton of rubbing alcohol and some fire.........

you could buy dozens of little geckos and let em lose in your place..thatl take care of those fruit flies, then ofcourse you have the problem of all those geckos....well you could buy some snakes to eat the geckos, then some mongooses? or is it mongeese? mongii? to eat the snakes...... well maybe you should just call an exterminator=\

To get rid of the geckos, offer them jobs at Geico.

Bug bomb's all over...Or you can do the sensible and possibly more expensive thing and call 'The Orkin Man!'.

First, get some flypaper, that stuff is great. Second, clean up everything sweet and moist. Empty your trash, even in the bathrooms, clean your counters, look behind stuff for a rotten bannana, etc. It really only takes one bad bananna to fill your house/apartment with flies. I just learned that the hard way. Took me a whole week to figure out where they were coming from.

After you remove the source, they will be gone within a week.

What my mom would do is suck them up with a vaccuum, was pretty effective at keeping them at bay until we found the source.
