Ghost stories

This is my first time posting a new topic so yeah... anywho what are some of you peoples ghost stories, or stories of freaky shit happening that you cant explain.

Heres my story: My cousins and I were driving down a road in the mountains at around 1AM sunday morning, on the way home from a party (we werent wasted). Well one of my cousins really needed to take a leak so we stopped on the side of the road and he did what he needed to do. Then as he got in the car my cousin who was in the front passenger seat said OH SHIT as he looked at the window and seen a strange white figure about 5m from the car at the front. Needless to say, we floored it the hell outta there, crapping ourselvs all the way home!

DUDE! Me and my brother both used to think there was a bunny-rabbit kinda ghost-creature upstairs in a house we used to live in! We were really young back then, but still, it most certainly freaked us out.

I was going to laugh at you, but then I remembered being freaked out as a kid by a Facts of Life Halloween episode where there was this guy in a pig mask with a chainsaw. I hang my head in shame...

ok ....here's one that to this day I can't explain...

When I was around 12 I had my two best friends over for my birthday. My friends and I desided it would be fun to try a seance (sp?) Well we had no clue what the hell we were doing so, instead we desided to chant "if you can hear us give us a sign" Word to the wise don't do this...lol We chanted for like an hour and my friend sam swore that the eyes moved in the picture I had of JFK. Laura and I laughed it off..But were still kinda freaked out. We all got really cold and goosebumply...We tried to go to bed but were too freaked out ..
They finally asked me to hide the picture so he couldn't look at us..I thought it was silly but did anyways...
~Fast Forward four years~
I was cleaning out the closet I stuffed the picture in and found it. I laughed as I remembered how silly we were. Then I looked closely at the picture of him and almost dropped it. His (JFK) head was stained red. Not kidding. Well I thought maybe it was on the glass so I tried to wash it off..Wasn't on the glass.
I took the picture out of the glass to see if it was somehow stained ..It wasn't.It had two layers of cardboard stuff b4 I even got to the picture......and the cardboard wasn't stained at all
I even looked all over the closet cealing for water stains ....nothing....besides the color wasn't water stain color...it was dark red...I shoved the picture back in the closet and a few days later Sam showed up at my house and I ended up showing them the picture...freaked Laura right out when we told her.
I felt to spooked to keep it in my room but I had a feeling that I couldn't throw it away...like something bad would happen...so I put it behind the couch in the room right outside my bedroom...Well I went to look at it a year later and it was gone...come to find out my sister tossed it when she cleaned the room....

this kind of stuff always happens in my parents house....It's haunted...My dad did some research and found out that the house used to be used by a funeral home to store coffins....when we asked him about dead people being in them...he wouldn't tell us..He also found out that the house was one of the first houses in our city....

wow... freaky.

Those cold shivers... They're spirits. At least they are for me. Thats one thing I have found out just by living my life. I ALWAYS have gotton them for as long as I can remember, It was the one interest of mine since I was little. For a period of my life, I assumed it was Elvis (an old Unsolved Mysteries Episode.. heh) which then turned into.. a Spirit passing thru my body, thus "connecting" with my spirit for a brief moment, thus the the chill. Now I know it to simply be a spirit.. Letting you know its there. It may be telling you something, It may be calming you down, reassuring you of what you are thinking to be true, or trying to scare you... Either way, its a spirit ... Speaking or Protecting/Attacking (doesn't have to be a wound type attack mind you)

I could go on, but I suppose this deserves another topic.

More than once at the place i used to live strage things have happened at the walkway on the side of the house. The spookiest one was when I came home really late and I decided to walk to the back door. When I got to the back door I was reacing for my keys when I got a chill up my spine. I then heard a warm breath blowing on my right ear. I swear I have never gotten a door open so fast in my life. Some of my family had weird things happen to them on the side of the house as well so i am hoping I am not crazy

One night, I was laying on the couch watching TV. My dad was in his recliner a few feet in front of me. My mom was in the bedroom changing.

I saw a woman (I thought was my mom at first) walk past a opening heading toward our kitchen. She was dressed in the old time night gowns like pioneers wore. I thought that was strange for my mom, it wasn't that cold that night.

Then my MOM walked past the same opening in her regular night gown.

Didn't you just come in here? I asked her...
Nope, I was changing.

I told her what I saw, and she responded "So, you saw her too..."

Strange things happend after that, I would suddenly find my self locked in my bedroom, doors would close by themselfs, things would be missing, only to turn up in really strange places.

My grandfather told us a story about a wagon train that had come through our area when he was a kid. Some people died on it from something. He was convinced that this lady was from it.

(The house was new, we built it.)

This was over 20 years ago...

My story...

I live on residences, kind of like dorms, at uni here. Two years ago it was easter break, and res was empty except for a few people. The houses (units) we lived in are like this (looking from above):
- Single Story
- Shaped like a -
- Loungeroom, Kitchen, Dining Area, Enterance + Exit doors are in middle bit.
- One end of unit has 5 bedrooms, one bathroom.
- Other end of unit has 7 bedrooms, one bathroom.
- Doors seperate the hallways (where the rooms are) from the lounge/kitchen/dining area.

Anyways.. on to the story.. Keep in mind I'm the only one that's living in the unit at the moment (it's Easter holidays, everyone went home). I'm in the lounge room with my girlfriend watching a movie (Face Off.. I still remember). The movie ends and we start to head back to my room to... become close. Before we go, I shut the bathroom door on the other (unused) side of the unit, turn off all the lights, and make sure the outer doors are shut. I also shut the door to the other (unused) hallway. Normal "going to bed" stuff for me. Anyways, we go back to my room (I shut the hallway door on my side too) and start having sex.... Not two minutes into it and there was hard, loud pounding on the front door... "Ok..." I think, and get some clothes on and go see who it is. I open the door and no one is there. I go back to my room and go back to it with my girlfriend when there's pounding again.. I think "It's just one of the few people that are around being dickheads" and ignore it. The pounding stops eventually. When we finish up I head out to the kitchen to get something to drink. The lights are on... the other hallway's door and that bathroom door is open.. in the other bathroom the lights are on and the exhaust fan above the shower is on. I'm sure I turned all this stuff off and closed all the doors. I look at the front door, and it's ajar.. I KNOW I shut that tightly after someone was pounding that first time.. freaked me out.

I checked with the few people around the next day, none of them could get inside the unit, and none of them had pounded on the door (they weren't lieing.. pretty sure). I asked the RA on duty, who has master keys, and she promised me she hadn't done anything either...

I told my RA when she got back.. and she said it happened to her at the beginning of the year when she was alone.. odd.. huh?

To this day, I know that unit is haunted.. there's a couple others around here that are bad too.. for example.. one unit has a little girl that people see walking the halls.. weird.. very weird..

Crazy

Mine is only slightly spooky. There is also a fair amount of background to it so you'll understand why it freaked me out so bad.

Let me start by telling you, I don't dream much that I can remember and when I do I only remember it for like an hour or two and then it fades and all I can remember.

My ex-wife swears she can (could) see spirits from time to time. At one house we lived in she told me that there was a presence that exuded a malevolence towards us. I've never seen any of this, but know her well enough that if she was telling me this she believed it in her heart so I always took anything out of the ordinary to heart and kept them from her if I could. It just freaked her out. This time I couldn't.

About 1-2 years after her mother died I had a dream. A very vivid dream in which her mother appeared to me and told me to tell Melinda (my ex) that she loved her. In most of my dreams that I can remember I see people that I recognize but rarely do they look like who they are supposed to be, but somehow I know who they are. Her mother appeared to me exactly as she did in real life. I woke up and thought nothing of it, it wasn't a scary dream or anything like that so I went back to sleep thinking I wouldn't remember it in the morning. 3 days later I still remembered the dream and had to tell my wife about it knowing how she felt about spirits and how it wasn't like me to remember every detail about a dream 3 days later. I could describe the outift her mother was wearing and it wasn't one I had ever seen before, but Melinda said it was one of her favorite outfits.

When I was in third grade or so, I moved into the bedroom downstairs, because I wanted my own room (our house was a two-family house, my grandma used to live with us until she moved into a local senior community).

Many, many things were experienced down there. I used to stay up very late (1, 2am) and read. I would hear the door of the downstairs kitchen or bathroom SLAM shut fairly frequently. The computer room would sometimes give me a major chill as I was typing late at night (yes, I went through the standard procedures to ensure that there was no way it could've been a draft).

But the most memorable and most frightening story happened one night when I was in 8th or 9th grade. I was up late in my bedroom, reading a book. It was almost 2, I think, and I had my bedroom door open. The stairwell, from which you can go up or down when you come in through the front door, is very close to my doorway.

Because of its close proximity, I was always able to hear my dad unlock the front door and walk upstairs.

This time, I heard footsteps coming down.

Now, I was reading and assumed that I didn't hear him unlock the door. I also assumed that he was coming down to check up on me, so I was very excited. I put my book down and made haste to the stairwell to greet my dad.

He wasn't there. The stairwell was dark, the front door still locked.

Needless to say, I was scared shitless and I ran back to my room, shut the door, and grabbed a hold of a baseball bat. When I regained my composure, I was worried that maybe somebody broke in, so I was really ballsy and walked around downstairs looking for signs of forced entry or, at least, somebody in the house.

Nothing.

Anyway, I still don't believe in spirits, ghosts, the afterlife. But I won't deny that there were many a-time that "unexplainable" events occured.

well i am a big believer in spirits and the paranormal thats probably why i fall into all of these stories and dont doubt any aspects of them. my story is kind of different than what i have read, when i was about 15 me and a few of my friends found a warehouse that was closed down so being kids we went inside, it was cool big place must of been a meat packaging plant or sumthing there was like hooks on the ceiling which would indicate in that part meat would be stored, well anyway we kept going back to this place and would play manhunt inside * if you dont know manhunt its wer u split up into teams and one team hides the other finds you and gotta like tagg you* well one night we was there from about 7pm till around 1 in the morning running around with torches. i was hiding between two walls with one of my friends jon, we heard footsteps and was being quiet thinking it was our mates but it sounded weird because we all wore trainers and it was a concrete floor so they wouldnt make much noise, jon looked out from the corner but said he couldnt see anything a few seconds later the footsteps stopped so we didnt really think about it and kept hidin then after a while we was caught and all went to leave just before we left we heard a loud bang from upstairs so shitting ourselves we legged it out of the building i aint never jumped a fence so fast before in my life. as we ran off we stopped in the middle of the field thats next to it, we had to cross there to get back onto our estate, looking back at the building we was sure we could see light coming from one of the windows, jon was staying at my house that night so when we got in we was talking about it, and came up with the idea that a homeless person or someone was living there that messed with my head because if there was someone in the building while we was in there that might of been dangerous. we didnt go back for a few days but eventualy did but found nothing that hinted anyone was staying there, we told a few people at school and one of the teachers told us that the reason the place closed was because the owner went mad and knifed himself and tried to kill one of the employee's my mum said that aint true but that scared the sh*t outta me, i would never go back there just knowing it still is near my house gives me a bad feeling inside.

i dont doubt it could of just been our minds playing tricks being in a building like that it could easily happen but what if it wasnt? ok im scared thinkin about it /... aghh

Ok, you want a story of freaky shit you cannot explain! Read on

now, before i begin, this story (or theory) has been in my head for most of my life, i am 19 years of age btw (also, today my typing has been a little off and dodgy as fuck, so apologies for spelling mistakes) and it may be a little long winded but read it proper and u may get what im saying to you ....

I honestly believe Dreams aren't just amde up as you sleep, but messeges from one of two sources ...

bear with me:

theory No. 1) Dreams are sorta like glimpses of different versions of yourself in a different dimension, i mean, have you ever had a dream where you are actually as you and are doin things you think are either impossible or something you could never do? well, maybe you have done them and the dream is showing u a first person view of you doing it ... hence - you are seeing a psychic-like glimpse of someone elses life.

i got this theory from when i watched the Movie 'The One' Starring Jet Li - where there were Multiple versions of hisself in different dimensions, i know this is only Science Fiction and totally unbelieveable - but, what if it was real?

OK, now this one is a little bit weirder and kinda still fresh in my mind - cos it only jumped out at me on Thursday!

Theory No. 2) Have you ever had Deja-vu? if you dont know what this is then see 'The Matrix' Film (1st one) (i only use movie references cos its the best way to explain it) - has it ever happened to you where u do something very simple like Picking up something you dropped on the floor and and suddenly thinking, 'haven't i done this exact thing before?'

well, what if, u did it in a dream and you did it days, months, even years later for real, hence, the feeling of deja-vu, or even a glimpse of the future?

i got this feeling - and have had the feeling of deja -vu loads of times before - but the strongest feeling of it was, like i said, on Thursday:

I broke my leg a few month back and ever since have had to wear a frame - which is a 'meccano-set' like device on it - and on thursday i had 3 of the wires that go through my leg removed. so, to ease the pain, they gave me ags and air to inhale - its stuff they give to women when giving birth, and sorta makes u feel drunk for about 2 minutes or so, but my god it easies the pain.

now, whilst i felt 'high' off this gas and air, i had a little deja-vu', it wasnt more of a 'have i done this before' as more of a 'ive heard these noises before' as the surrounding noises, which was kinds distorted and kinds funny-sounding - very 'echo-like' noises i have heard before in a dream - which was funny as, normally, a deja-vu is just one instant moment, whereas, this moment of deja-vu it was more like i was sat there, knowing what sounds i was gonna here next (which was the nurse speaking to a fellow doctor, i dont know what it was that she said though) - the reason i knew i was gonna hear these 'sounds and noises' next was that it was a recurring dream i have always had throughout my life - which was brought to life in this moment of reality - this moment in a way proved that i saw (at a very young age and throughout my lfie) a future part of my life, not knowing where or when it was going to occur, but because it was a recurring dream, the deja-vu would definately show me that i would remember it and know that it would happen.

The noises as i was at a young age just seemed to sound like little bits of all the films i'd obsessively watch - most being from the Film 'Robocop' - like funny sounds of the robocop character moving or from speeches from the film, i cant quite put my finger on which sounds they are right now, but when i sit and think of it i can pin-point which bits - sorta the sounds of robots from different films moving and shit liek that - sorta strange shit - but whilst int he real bit of these noises they were simle things liek somebody opening the door, the noises of the patients outside and the noises of the doctor and nurse speaking, all sounding very strange and weird, since all my senses where mixed up from the Gas and air i was punping through my body!

just a bad case of deja-vu or a sight into the future? what do you think? weird or what? i mean, what else are dreams doing in you, they might as well be a sign of something? why not be a sign of the future?

My mother-in-law died two years ago, and my wife and I are temporarily living in her house. We are alone in this giant three-story house (she actually died in the house), and sometimes it gets creepy. Little knick-knacks that my mother-in-law collected will crash to the floor for no reason, and we're always hearing phantom knocks at the front door early in the morning. However, last Thanksgiving was the creepiest.

My wife was out of state, and I was alone in the big house all day. Late in the afternoon, I went toward the master bathroom to wash my hands, and I took my rings and watch off and laid them on the bed. When I came out of the bathroom, my wedding ring was gone. My watch and class ring were right where I'd left them on the bed, but the wedding ring had vanished. I looked all over the bed surface and found nothing. I looked on the floor and found nothing. I even crawled partially under the bed to see if it had perhaps fallen off and rolled under the bed. Nothing. Then, as I crawled back out from under the bed, something hit the floor a few inches from my head. When I looked, it was my wedding ring, still wobbling slightly from the fall, but mostly just laying there. No one else was in the room (or the house for that matter), and there was nothing but empty space directly above where the ring hit the floor.

When I told my wife about it later, she said her mother probably just wanted to know why she wasn't there on Thanksgiving Day.

Still gives me the creeps.

Here's another.

When I was 10 years old, my brother and I shared a bedroom. One night, I came awake for some reason and looked over at my brother to see him sitting up in bed stock still and staring straight ahead towards our bedroom door. When I turned towards the door and looked, I saw the silhouette of a man standing in the doorway with his hands above his head and holding the top of the door frame. I assumed it ws our father checking in on us, and I almost called out to him, but there was something about the way my brother was sitting frozen like that which made me remain still and quiet, too.

After a few minutes, the man turned and walked out of our doorway and back down the hall to the left (away from the rest of the bedrooms). Suddenly, before either of us could say anything to each other, another shape appeared in our doorway and turned on our bedroom light. This time, it really was our father, but he clearly came into our bedroom from the right of the hallway, which was the opposite direction from which the first man had gone.

After my brother and I stammered and stuttered to our father that someone else was in the house and had stood in our doorway, he checked out the entire house, top to bottom. All doors and windows were still locked and secure, but there was no one else in the house. He'd simply vanished.

My father told us later that he'd heard the man, but hadn't seen him. He thought it was one of us that had gotten out of the bed and was making noises, so that's why he came to our room to check on us. The man never made another appearance to us after that night.

My mother-in-law is at it again. Yesterday, after I left for work, my wife came down to the kitchen to find the broiler drawer open on the oven. Not open just a little bit, but pulled all the way out. We haven't used that broiler since we moved into the house. I didn't do it, and our dogs were crated. Also, when she let the dogs out of the crate, they wouldn't stop in front of the oven. Instead, they would run past it, then turn around and bark at it.

Kay - here goes for mine.

When I was a young man, there were stories circulating in my area about 'The Ghost Light'. Nobody really seemed to have the same story about the place, but the stories were all about the same place, and they all had common threads.

The area in question was an abandoned section of railroad tracks, back in the boonies off the beaten path. It was a perfect party spot - we'd light big bonfires and tell spooky stories to the girls and get drunk and generally have a good time. Every now and then, for effect seemingly, a 'mysterious light' would appear perhaps a mile to a mile and a half down the tracks from the spot we always lit our fires at.

Well, as I said, it was a fine party spot and being young people we spent lots of time partying, so naturally, we spent lots of time at this particular spot. One night, when there weren't any parties that we knew about and we were bored we decided to go check out the Ghost Light for signs of party goers. It happened that it was a Friday the 13th, and a full moon at the same time. There was a little blurb in the paper that said the Wiccans were all bent out of shape about some cosmic alignment or some such that this sort of thing was really rare and yada yada yada.

Anyway, we drove the 20km or so to the spot, and sadly - no girls, no beer, no nothing. The light was out though, which was common place enough that it wasn't very exciting to watch from so far away. Still bored, we decided to take the truck down the service road that ran beside the tracks. We'd walked short distances down it before, to freak out the girls, but we'd never really gone very far. Well, that night as we drove down the tracks, we got noticeably closer to the light. It seemed like we got maybe half a mile away, and then it kept pace with us travelling away from us as quickly as we approached it. We drove on, and eventually the light blinked out. Finally, after travelling about a mile and a half down this dirt track, we came to a bend. There were trees growing pretty much right up to the far side of the tracks, and the road was getting more overgrown, and we all got the 'heebie-jeebies' at the same time. None of us wanted to go around that corner. So, we turned the truck around and started back. We got about a half mile away from the corner, and sure enough the light re-appeared behind us. It again paced us, all the way back to the main grid.

It was at this point that things got a bit freaky. My 'friend' (he's an asshole, but we've been friends for the last, oh thirty years now...<g>) pulls the truck onto the tracks where they cross the main grid, and parks! Of course, there are four of us in this quarter-ton truck, and two of us (me and another guy) are in the box. So the light, which was already closer to the 'spot' than we'd ever seen it at a half mile away is getting closer. Fast. It's coming, and coming and pretty soon it's a couple of hundred yards away and then 'blink'. Nothing. The light went out. THEN, about 50 FEET away, it's like a huge wooden match being struck - there was the sound, the burn that started at the bottom and expanded into a burning globe - and there were SHADOWS. Hard-edged, halogen lamp against a cardboard cutout arc-welding cast SHADOWS. This thing was burning bright and hard - it was about three feet across, probably 20 feet in the air, and it was distinctly PISSED OFF.

I says to my buddy through the open rear window, in a calm, collected voice, "Tim. Get the fuck out of here.". My buddy doesn't twitch. Louder now, still calm, "Tim. Get the FUCK out of here.". Nothing. "TIM!! GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE!!!" He drops the truck in drive, and steps on it. As the truck tires roll off the tracks, the light is just - gone. As though it had never been. I don't know for sure to this day, but I think I saw three forks of purple lightning shoot up into the clear night sky from directly below where the burning ball was, but it could have been some persistence of vision or something.

We didn't go back there for years. When we finally did, we discovered that the tracks had been torn up for scrap metal salvage and the farmers that had purchased the land had fenced it all off to keep the kids out. The track bed is so overgrown now that you can't see thirty feet from where you stand so the light may or may not still come out, but if it does you wouldn't be able to see it.

Most of my friends and family just smile and nod when I tell this story. Fact is, I don't care if they believe me. I know what I saw, and my three friends do too.

Hi im kinda new at this so here is my simple ghost story.

One night i heard a creepy sound comming from the addick but i was too sleepy so i went back to sleep. Around 3 am an alarm clock in the addick started to ring or so we thought. And it was ringing really hard. So all my family got up and went to check. We saw the radio was turned on which was previously set on off and it was still playing. What reallllllllllllllllllllllllllyyyyyyyyyy spook us was the cord was unhooked to the plug. We press on and off and it stoped. To this day we dont know what happen, if it was a electric thing or a ghost but we through out that old thing right away. I keep wondering if the sound i heard was the source of it or no...

and heres number 2 and this is our family story i guess. Here goes:

During world war 2, my grand father was a soldier in the navy working in a tanker. He work very hard so during one night he decides to go to sleep in his bunker. After a while he lean over and saw a statue of saint therisa. ( or the little flower ) so any way he saw the statue speak to him. Here is what she said " Tommas, you cant sleep here tonight." So he decides to listen to the statue and go sleep on the couch. Later that night the germans attacked swarming the tanker with bullets. Destroying almost every thing but my gramp had'nt been hit. He looked at the statue and it was broken into peices but the head was ok. So he gluwed up the peices to reform the statue and everywhere he went he always brought that statue with him. Weird Huh!!!

Two stories:<br />
First, in my last apartment, maybe a year ago, I was in the shower one day, and when I got out, the mirror was fogged over, and in the mirror was written, "I hate you". Now, I told a couple of friends about this, and they all figured that someone had written it as a joke, but I really don't believe it. I had been there for maybe 6 months and only had a few people over in that time, and none of them were really good friends that would play a prank like that. I had cleaned the mirror several times while I lived there as well, so i don't think it was left over from before I moved in, but it kind of freaked me out. A few weeks later I invited my girlfriend over to see for herself, I shut the door and turned on the shower and there it was again. That was kind of strange. <br />
The second story scared me much more than that one. I was 18 years old, living in my parents' basement. There were no windows down there, so it was totally dark in my room except for the light from the vcr directly across the room from me, so there was a faint glow. I was just lying there trying to go to sleep when I felt something in the room with me. I looked at the vcr, and all of a sudden the light went out on it, not like it had failed, but like someone had moved in front of it, so I could still see the glow, but with a black shape in front of it. This shape, or form, just stayed there for a minute or two, or at least it seemed like several minutes, maybe it was just a few seconds. I couldn't move, I was totally paralyzed. I kind of thought about telling it to go away, but I don't know if that would have been embarassing for the both of us, so I finally got the courage to move and I reached over really quickly and snapped on the table lamp beside the bed. There was nothing there of course, but to this day I'm still majorly freaked out just thinking about it.

WHOA! While I was reading this thread. I heard someone walk into the room behind me. I thought it was my wife and told to her check out some of these stories. When she didn't answer I turned around and there was no one there. I started to get a little freaked out but figured that maybe she had walked in and left and I just hadn't heard her walk out. I went looking for her, partially to provide myself with a good logical explanation to what I had heard. I found her in upstairs taking a bath, she had been there for a while.

I went back downstairs to my computer to continue reading. After reading one more post my printer turned on and started freaking out, then my monitor turned off. I just sat there for a minute with chills running up and down my spine. When I turned my monitor back on all the programs in the dock, I'm on a macintosh, were opened. I shut down the computer and left the room.

That was about thirty minutes ago, I finally worked up the courage to come back and finish reading the thread and post my experience. I've never had something like that happen to me.

wow.. i love reading all these stories. I have a ton, and I used to be stupid enough to tell my mom about what I was experiencing. My mom used to say that she was going to take me to see a shrink, until she saw what i was seeing and freaked right out.. Guess she'll never think her daughter is crazy again.

Nice to see I'm not the only one with freaky stories. I've been experiencing weird stuff since I was a kid. It's just a part of my life.

I'm pretty much a skeptic about this sort of thing, but I love a good ghost story. My own, alas, isn't terribly exciting...

My parents' house has a short hallway on the first floor. The kitchen and den are at one end, bathroom and cellar doors on opposite sides in the middle, living room at the other end. As a kid, I always felt a little uneasy in and around this hallway. At night, I tended to scamper through it as quickly as possible going between the rooms. Sitting in the living room, I didn't like to be in a position where I could look down it.

On a few occasions, I've seen what I can only describe as motion in the hallway. Not a distinct figure, just a sense of someone walking down the hallway, usually out of the corner of my eye, always moving from the living room toward the kitchen. On the most memorable occasion, my girlfriend and I were sitting in the den on a weekend afternoon, reading the paper as I recall. We both saw it at the same time, and we both looked up, expecting my mother to walk into the room. No one was there, and my mother, of course, was in another part of the house. The most interesting part of this encounter was the fact that the presence, or whatever, was distinctly feminine. We both expected my mother to walk in, not my father, even though it could have been either of them.

The strange part is that the house itself was new when my parents bought it, and the land it sits on was just a wooded lot before the house was built. One of the contractors working on it died on a camping trip before it was finished, but that doesn't explain the feminine presence. It also seems unlikely that he would have had any particular connection to this house, as I believe it was one of several being built at the time.
