I think about this stuff. i know there's always a % of the population that's obsessed with the end of the world (i have a couple friends come to mind.) I'm sure a lot of people thought it was happening when the Black Plague hit in Europe, it happened with Y2k, and now there's the mayan thing.
at the end of the day, i think it's silly and a touch egotistical to think that after all these years and decades and centuries, that OUR particular timeline is the one to end them all. i count myself extremely lucky in that where i've manage to grow up and live my life has been untouched by war, hunger, and diseases for the most part. i'm not naieve enough to think that something big could NEVER happen, but i consider it wasteful if worrying and preparing for something like that gets in the way of me living my already busy life. i know all the basic science and physics stuff, and i'd like to learn more about living in the wild. if the shit ever really went down, that's what i'd go to.... find some water and woods and eke out as best a living as i could. if i couldn't do that... if the world around me was THAT bad.... i don't think i'd want to be around anyway.

Hurricane season's almost upon me. They've had a few local preparedness meetings. I went to the English version the other day. Other then being told extra food and water is a good idea the only new thing I learned was where my nearest "shelter" is located. I drove by the shelter and went home to make sure my account with NOAA is set up to send me e-mails and notifications. I figure at the first sign of anything that even looks like it's could be headed my way I'm headed inland for higher elevation. "Riding the Storm Out" is a decent REO Speed Wagon song. After looking at the shelter it's doesn't seem like a good real life plan.
