I have a friend who thinks that the social security number is somehow linked to the "mark of the beast" and is basically something prophecised in revelations.

Has anyone ever heard of this belief before???

I looked on a google a little, but just found a load of sites about tax avoidance.

I was always taught that the mark of the beast isn't physical but internal, a sign of open defiance to God. I know I've got the mark because I don't believe in the existence of God. If you believe or act in a way that means you do not believe, you have the mark. The mark of the beast is said to be on the forehead (the mind) or on the right hand (the actions).

Remember that most of Revelations, if Christianity is real, would be in metephore. John was taken by God and essentially shown the future. Without context, the future can be quite confusing so it has to be conveyed in metephore. I'm sure John didn't intend to say that there would litterally be a woman with 12 stars on her head riding a dragon. Her head wouldbe pulled apart by the gravity or burned up by the millions of degrees of nuclear fusion reactions. Also, dragons aren't real.

Bar codes all have two thin lines to mark the beginning, middle and end of them for the scanner. They're usually a little longer than the other lines. The remaining lines represent numbers. Each number has a left hand side and right hand side two-line combo, so the scanner will know which way to read the numbers. Now, the right hand side lines for the number 6 is exactly like the beginning-middle-end lines. So basically in every bar code there is the number 666 hidden.

Ive read that, I assumed it refered to standard currency, which presumably was stamped with the mark of the occupying Roman state?

My pet theory for this? When it comes, I think it will be in the form of an embedded RFID chip, like they already have for your pet. It will be sold to the public as necessary for homeland security and for secure financial transactions, with a stigma equivalent to being called a terrorist or a commie if you refuse the mark.
