God of Thunder, you're right. I knew taht one, too; why I said Signals, I'll never know.

YYZ is actually Pearson International, Toronto's main airport and the only international one in the GTA. It's right off the 401; when driving the highway, you'll sometimes find yourself with landing jetliners overhead.

Just because the titles are so close, I'll say Arthur C. Clarke and 2001 A Space Odyssey

Oh, I meant to answer that one. They were inspired by that relativist everyone loves to hate, Ayn Rand.

As I'm quite sure of this, we'll move on.

Janis Joplin lived hard; she famously claimed there were only two people who could outdrink her. Who were they?

EDIT - Should mention too, due to the relative obscurity of the fact, one of the two will do; if you can name both though, go for it.

Kris Kristofferson is enough to move forward.

The other was Jerry Lee Lewis.

Well seeing as how only one of the four
was born in Ohio....Chrissie Hynde (Akron)
There must be something more....
I'll have to guess...
Cleveland
Because that is where the Rock and Roll hall of fame is

Close enough.
Actually, all 4 were supposedly from the Akron area at one point in their lives.

I was reading the Akron/Canton area was, and is a hotbed of music talent.
So with that name two current stars from Canton Ohio

Edit: the city I live in is named Canton
When the city leaders were looking for a name
they had taken a recess
a couple of people went outside
one of them read a name plate on the bridge
It had been manufactured in Canton Ohio
That's how we got our name.

I'll recuse myself because I live in Canton and know both. Hard not to in this city.

You might have to answer it if nobody can
Or tell them if they got it right, if I'm not on.
I just learned this yesterday when I was on the
Hall of fame site,
thought it was pretty cool.

Well if noone else will answer:

There's Marilyn Manson, for sure.

Macy Gray, and the O-Jays. But not sure if those are the ones you are looking for though.

Yep!...Marilyn Manson and Macy Gray were the ones.
Manson is a lot younger than I thought.

Knoxville is right, and it's the Andrew Jackson Hotel. There's some debate as to where he actually died. He was certainly unconcious on his way out of Knoxville and might have been dead.

How about this one :

All Along the Watchtower is one of Hendrix's biggest hits. It's also not his song. Who wrote it?

Hm, ok....

Here's what I think is an easy one.

Explain the story behind the title of the song "Badge" by Eric Clapton

The story goes that George Harrison was sitting across from Eric when he was writing it.

He mis-read the writing, since he was viewing it upside down. Eric was writing the "bridge" portion of the song.

Eric thought it was funny and named the song "Badge"

I'll lob out a softball question since I am checking in during lunch and will be away from my desk the rest of the day.

Sticking with Beatles, why did Paul choose the Hoffner bass?

Close enough. He picked it because it looked good flipped over. Not a lot of left-handed basses were out then and so he picked it because of it's symetrical design.

Hell, I figured there must be one other person who'd know this. It was Dan Zanes.

Alright, let's get a new one out there...

When Rivers Cuomo was in high school, he went by a pseudonym to avoid ridicule for his admittedly odd real name.

What did his classmates know him as?

Nobody? There's another hour for someone to come in at the last minute and take it, then we move on to another one...

EDIT - No? Okay. Well, Rivers went by Peter Kitts. Kitts was his stepfather's surname and Peter he chose for himself. How about this one, then...

The lyrics of the Pearl Jam song Yellow Ledbetter are completely indistinguishable. Eddie, who slurs as a habit, is totally incomprehensible on this track; thus, nobody really knows what it's about aside from Mr. Vedder, who to date isn't telling. We do, however, know what the name is a reference to.

What is the name a reference to?

They played in Green River with Bruce Fairweather (also of Mother Love Bone) along with Mark Arm and Steve Turner, currently of Mudhoney. I think there's someone else too, but I can't put a name to it. In any case, they were on the Sub Pop label before they broke up; I don't remember why they split, but I'm pretty sure the animosity between Cobain and Pearl Jam later was something to do with it.

What can I say? I went through a big Seattle grunge phase when in my teens.

Let's stick to the theme here for a bit..

Seattle grunge was popularized in the early nineties by four groups, collectively known as the big four. Of the four, Pearl Jam is the only group still together today; Nirvana died with Kurt and the other two broke up in between.

Who were the other two groups?

Nicely done.

Soundgarden broke up in (I think) 1997. It was that old demon that seems to plague successful acts, creative differences. Several of the members went onto other groups, the most renowned of which was Chris Cornell, who currently fronts Audioslave.

Alice in Chains died in 2002, when Layne Staley was found dead of a drug overdose. I don't think any of the former members have done anything noteworthy since, although they did reunite (with a guest vocalist) to play a benefit for tsunami victims in 2005.

You're up.

Ok....

Mark Knopfler, guitar player extraordinaire, has released albums under at least 3 names (possibly more), not including session-type work done for other musicians.

List three.

Bonus question: name the charity band and song for which Knopfler contributed lead guitar work.
