It's down in New Zealand.

Let's leave the U2 behind for a bit. How about one for the folks in the T-Dot...

Back in the summer of 2003 several big name acts got together to perform a benefit concert to promote tourism in Toronto. This was right after the big SARS scare, so the concert was aptly titled Sarstock. The show included quite the list of performers, including AC/DC, The Guess Who, Rush and the Rolling Stones. One performer, however, was famously bood off the stage after being pelted with water bottles.

Who was it?

That it was.

I don't really get what the guy expected. I remember when the line-up was announced and it was AC/DC, Rush, The Stones, The Guess Who, Blue Rodeo, The Flaming Lips and... Justin Timberlake?

One of these things is not like the other...

Anyway, you're up flyman.

No problem my wacky tabaccy toking friend. I got so much music trivia in this old skull of mine, I could do one of these just to myself.

Next question :

The Eagles had a modest hit with the song Ol' 55. However, Don Henley did not write this tune. In fact, he once said of the original singer 'he hated our cover, that is until the royalty cheque came.'

Who did it first?

Again? Christ; I know I said I could do a thread to myself, but this wasn't really the intent...

Alright, 'nother one then. And I'm gonna make this one harder, since the last two were gimmes.

Keeping with Don Henley for now...

Before Don Henley played in the Eagles, he had a smaller Texas band called Shiloh. This band was backed financially by another famous Texan. Name that man.

Also wrong. Maybe this one is a bit too challenging.

I'll leave it up for today, then replace it with something easier if nobody gets it.

Which artist performed her Oscar-winning song at the ceremony accompanied by a group of deaf kids but complaints that their signing was completely incomprehensible led to an admission that they were in fact rounded up from a local school and could all hear perfectly well. This was also the number one song that year, a one hit wonder.

what's not to hate, really?
trivial groundrule question: are the topics here restricted to pop music? so if i were to ask which synth/tape music composer began her career as an assistant to pierre henry, would that be within the rules of the game? for example.

roachboy - It's not at all restricted to pop music, as my Tom Waits question would seem to indicate (although I suppose it could be argued that's an Eagles question). So your question about Eliane Radigue would be perfectly acceptable.

Just remember that the more obscure you go, the higher the chance of it being a stumper.

You're afraid of obscure when I just answered a question about Debby Boone??

Let's stick with obscure then.

In 1983 Brian May was working on a solo project EP, what guitarist did he get to help him, and for bonus points, name the project.

nice, martian.....yes,

btw: i just got ms. radigue's "trilogie de la mort"...
i am 3 or 4 minutes into kailasha.
while i can still talk or write (this will not last long), i should say (i think) that nothing (and i mean nothing)....(i think....this sort of thing is hard to know, really)--has affected me like adnos--this over the past 5 years or so.
just amazing.

but if you are focussed on the drone by itself you are focussed on the wrong thing.

o, and stay in the sweet spot.
it's always better there.

That's an easy one. It was Sgt. Pepper.

Or if you want to be pedantic, the full name of the album is Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Kate Schellenbach drummed in a New York punk band in the early 80's known as the Young Aborigines. This band later changed names and switched styles, eventually dropping her from the line-up. They have since become international superstars.

What do we know them as today?

I would assume you're talking about The Allnighter. Terrible film. I know it was directed by her mother, but I have no idea who produced it.

I suppose I could look it up on IMDB, but that seems like cheating somehow.

Okay, this one's just for flyman, then.

I mean anyone can answer it, but.. yeh. flyman.

The line in my signature is from a famous Saturday Night Live skit starring Christopher Walken, Will Ferrel and Blue Oyster Cult. In 2005, what band mixed audio from that skit into one of their hit songs, then released the result as the 'Contradictor remix' as a B-Side on the single of that very song?

Gah, I tried to drop subtle hints in the above post. The band was Queens of the Stone Age and the song was Little Sister.

Alright, an easier one.

What 60's rocker is quoted as saying "Before Elvis, there was nothing"?
