Women Dig Guys With Gutars: Fact or Fiction???
So I was browsing through groups on Facebook the other day and I found one for chicks that dig guitar playing guys. I called bullshit right away. I've been playing guitar for many moons now, and I had never heard of this deal. I thought for a second that maybe nobody that had heard my playing was one of those girls. I scrolled through the member list, and sure enough, there were a few girls that I have played in front of. Surely it isn't my skill or song choice, I play a broad spectrum of stuff (even pick-up classics like "Wonderful Tonight") that everybody seems to like when I play them.
Has anybody else heard of this phenomenon, and if so, have you found me right or wrong??? |
I've heard of it. I definitely am in to men who play the guitar and are in a band...
Famous guys, that is. The unattainable ones... heh. When I hear someone I know play guitar though... yeah... doesn't do anything for me. I just enjoy the music. So I don't know what makes the difference. And I didn't help. Sorry. HAHA... it does however remind me of all the silly facebook groups I belong to: "People Who Were Going To Join the Procrastinators Club But Decided That they Would Do it Later Club," "Big Boobs Victims," and "Cool People Who Shop At Wal-Mart Really Late at Night." |
tspikes: Make sure you use an electric and do mad crazy guitar solos that involve wailing on the axe.
|
FACT.
Oh yes. This, my friend, is definitely a fact. For me atleast. I find that men who play tend to be more sensitive. Most of my guy friends play. All of those who do are sensitive. Then take my (((1))) guy friend who doesn't. He says playing the guitar is for little pussy boys. Music provides peace, comfort, FUN!!!, and so much more. So, for you to take the time to learn how to play, to me, makes it seem as though your reasoning behind learning is to provide comfort to somebody else, or yourself. Or entertainment.. or whatever the reason may be. Actually, can I ask why you started playing - tspikes51

mythbuster says:
plausable. I'm in a band, but I have a girlfriend, and a lot of people know her. I never seem to get hit on after a show, but again, my girlfriend is usually around. It doesn't matter, really, but it would be nice to know that there's something attractive about me. Other musicians that I know, much uglier than myself (I say this without arrogance, knowing full well that they would agree), seem to get laid all the time after shows. Go figure. |
Fact: Some girls like guys with guitars.
Fact: Some girls do not like guys with guitars. I personally find musicians sexy. In fact, I've yet to date a guy who wasn't a musician. There's something inherently awesome about someone who can play music, but... there are also a lot of my male friends who play guitar who I'm not that attracted to. Guitar playing is more of a bonus than anything, so once you think that you're winning a girl over, then play her a bit of music. It may not seal the deal, but it's a nice 1-UP as far as the cause goes! |
Yeah, forget guitars. I'm a piano player and most of my day is spent fending off the ladies. It doesn't leave me much time to do anything else...
my life is so pathetic.... |
Most girls know that trumpet players are where it's at. ;)
No, I've got to say, there are definitely a slice of women who swoon at the sight of a guy with a guitar, especially if he knows what he's doing with it. I remember back in college (in the first week of freshman year, before lurkette and I were official), I led a sing-along with my guitar in the stairwell of our dorm, on a girls' floor (lurkette's floor, in fact), and I must have had eight to ten girls clustered around singing with me. I got some very interested looks that night. Which was all very good fun, but I had already picked my pony. ;) |

For me, yeah, I dig the guitar-players. Musicians of many kinds, actually. Usually the illogical attraction comes in when they're actually performing on a stage of some kind. It's wild... maybe I wouldn't think about them twice if I saw them in a bar or on the street, but on stage... rawr. And if they're only borderline attractive (to me), the <solid> guitar playing increases their magnetism lots.
However, for moi, if they're completely physically unattractive to me, the guitar isn't going to change things a bit. Quadro plays guitar, and piano. He's HOTT. :D I can say truthfully that I liked him before knowing that, but the music definitely increased my interest. Rawr. |
Yes, guys who play guitar are hot. For me, it's because it brings the focus in on their fingers and makes me wonder what else they can do with them ;)
|
I always fall for women who play bass in a band...
Just something about it gets me hot. I have to agree with Jess though, it has everything to do with them being on stage. |

I think there's something hot about a girl playing any low-pitched instrument. Chick cellists are hot too. There was a girl in my high-school band who was sort of cute, but not a showstopper. But she played bass clarinet, and so was fascinating to me. Maybe a girl souzaphone player wouldn't be all that hot... I dunno. /threadjack |

We have a girl bassist in my band ... It seems to me that drummers are the ones who always get laid. Maybe it has something to do with all that "energy." Guitar players and frontmen are the ones with whiny girlfriends that try to make themselves the band manager. Unless it's a girl guitar player and female front ... they usually have some a*hole boyfriend that tries to pretend that she is THE REALLY IMPORTANT MEMBER. He usually spends his time on the phone talking really loudly about how he can't talk right now because he's at "the gig." Me? I'm the keyboard player. I am feared by some and revered by most - laid by none. ;) |

i think the singing + guitar is far better than just playing guitar.
i've found it's never been an asset to me. i play guitar alot, i'm completely attatched to my guitar. however, because i can't (mostly i refuse to learn, but i never bother to play other people's songs, i always just play what i feel) play songs you've heard of, it's of no use. so, the victory goes to the guy who knows Stairway to Heaven or tears in heaven or Layla or something... easy songs, but i've always preferred just to do my own thing. |
i can agree with that. buuuut, guys who are multi-instrumentalists are incredibly attractive.
i know from experience =) |
Everybody likes someone with skills, and maybe there's a bit of the 'bad boy' vibe (if it's an electric guitar) or the sensitivity thing (if it's a normal guitar.) Personally, I like watching people play the piano, (which is weird, since I don't really like the sound the piano makes.)

FACT:
I've been playing guitar for a few years now, and while I am far from being any kind of pussy-magnet, a number of girls who probably wouldn't normally give me a second look have gone all gooey when I've had the chance to play and sing in front of them. I've also had it specifically said by girls, including my ex-girlfriend who to my mind was a more talented musician than me, that my guitar playing was attractive. I should add that where I've heard this it's mainly been indirectly through mutual female friends, so don't despair that you haven't come across any girls who find you playing attractive yet, they may all just be too awestruck to tell you. I'm told that playing and singing at the same time, improvisation and the ability to use each hand independently are particularly attractive. SCIENTIFIC FACT: Playing an instrument under the right social conditions affords one status for two reasons: One, you're there making a big noise while everybody else either follows you and joins in or sits attentively with their focus on you; Two, it creates a mental association between you and rich, high status rockstars. Chicks dig status. Being musical demonstrates a competence. Chicks dig competence. ALSO, I RECKON: I find a girl who can play an instrument attractive because it seems to be a way to distinguish real humans from the mindless automata who seem to make up the bulk of society. While it's not true that anyone who isn't musical is subhuman, there does seem to be a certain class of person who doesn't really understand music or have any appreciation of art, philosophy or anything other than the immediately, robustly practical: The sort of person who chooses their taste in music just to buy into an image, who buys art so they can tell you how much it cost, who if they did take up an instrument would just learn to do note-perfect recitals of very complicated solos then tell you how many notes per minute and would think that improvising meant learning modes, scales and arpeggios and running relentlessly up and down them. Hearing someone play is a good way of distinguishing these sociopaths from people with some depth. |

I'm a drummer, and I get no love.
Chicks who can play piano are hot though. |
Mmmmmm, guitars......
What can I say? There's just something about a guy with nimble fingers ;) |
True. Well most girls. If you dress the part too. A guitar is a rebel instrument. I'm a bad boy rockstar, if you will. "I'll rock your panties off!"
|
I gotta back up the bass-lovers... there's just something dead sexy about it... goes twice over for a double-bass... seeing a woman really lean in and give it some.... *shivvvvvvvvers*
