A round headed boy in a cone headed world
 

Years and years ago I was lolling around a big record store in dowtown Toronto with my dad, and they were playing a curious track over the PA. Imagine Johnny Cash singing "A Boy Named Sue" but instead of a humerous tale of revenge, the story went something like this:

Once in the land of cone headed people, there was born a round headed boy. Because of his deformity, he became an outcast and was forced to leave and go on a quest to find more like him.

The story went on and on, but we had to leave the store before it ended. Does any body know what this could possibly be?

I suppose it could be Johnny Cash himself, but i haven't found anything in his online discography that looks likely. And any search I do with "conehead" in it only comes up with infinite SNL links.

I remember being totally captivated and I'd love to rediscover it again, for both my enjoyment and my son's. Does this ring any bells in the great collectve mind of the tfp?

Wow, that was a fun search. Never heard of it before, but it is by Harry Nilsson (check out the Wikipedia entry on him). Not only is this a song, but it was also an animated children's story version called The Point. See also the interview at WHEN HARRY MET FRED - Los Angeles CityBeat.

Redlemon, my hat is off to you! I don't know how you found it considering that my memory was way, way off. I just listened to it on itunes and it's exactly as I should have remembered it. ;) I'm going to buy the soundtrack. Behold the power of the TFP!
