Playlist Communities
I just happened upon this website this morning:
www.webjay.org And it is really a pretty cool idea...I know that I may be waaaay behind the curve on this one, but basically it is a website where people plost their own playlists, which you can then stream to your computer...I love the alternative lists with tons of good music that I have never heard before...It reminds me of the music 88.1 WKNC (my old university radio station) used to play... Does anyone know of any other sites like this?

hmm..the webjay looks interesting, but the site is very slow for me right now...
I'm on audioscrobbler - http://www.audioscrobbler.com/user/keyshawn - it's a free plug-in available for xmms, winamp, itunes, and whatever else you use to play music on your comp. it takes the data the music that you play and creates a list of how many songs you've played, what's popular, what artists have you played the most, etc. The variety of data and personalization of that data has such capabilities to be mined [for advertising]; it's actually kinda scary, imho. It can though, be used in a more healthy fashion - for example - on audioscrobbler - what other artists are you interested in and who else shares the same taste in music. It's just a matter of time before it's expanded to use the data on your digital audio player, or even webradio [however, the logistics for that would be pretty crazy]. catcha back on the flipside, keyshawn

Cool! Thanks keyshawn.
What about a tool that reads what songs you have recently played and then puts them into a blogging format....has anyone heard of anything like that?

Well, the foo_gen_dumpxml plugin outputs the currently playing file to an xml file. i'd imagine there might be a way to append songs and only keep the previous five or something. the xml file could be used for the site.

To go along with that audioscrobbler site mentioned above, check out this site here: http://www.last.fm/
I think it's kind of what you're looking for. I love audioscrobbler though. it's a great thing.
