Concert For George
I wanted to know if anyone ever watched this DVD.
This was a concert that was held by Ravi Shankar and his daughter Anuksha (No clue how to spell that) for George Harrison, now call me dumb but I have no clue who he is, but the video is fantastic and I always enjoyed watching that entire concert. But one part that struck me as just simply amazing was when this guy is sitting next to Anuksha and he's playing on an acoustic guitar, I love that part of the entire video the most....he's great on the guitar and it sounds awesome, every time I watch that part of the video, the tune stays in my head for days. I just kinda wanted to know if anyone on here has seen the DVD of it, and if so, hear your comments on it. |
I own the DVD and yes, it is fantastic.
Ravi Shankar is a legednary Indian musician and long time friend of George Harrison. George was into Indian music and religion for a long time before his death. The funniest part is how the Ravi Shankar set segwayed into the Monthy Python set. A beautiful tribute from a legenday musician followed by four men in their 60's mooning the audience. But, that was George. |
Yea, I love that DVD a lot now, its kinda odd looking at it in my collection of Half Baked, Van Wilder, Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, and then........Concert for George, I thinks thats funny.
great music all around. |
If you'd like to see Ravi's skills with a Sitar check out the Montery Pop festival. He performs at the end. Blows everyone away. Even Jimi Hendrix was in awe.
Asta!! |
I liked the concert so much that I went out and bought the DVD. Watched it numerous times. I particularly like the songs chosen for George. It's a classic.

One of the best DVDs around. George would have been pleased! His son Dani looks so much like him...I re-watch it on occasion esp. when I feel a little maudlin.

I like the fact that Eric invited friends of George's that had played with him before. It wasn't just a random placements of musicians.
The highlight of the night (besides Monty Python) was "Something". The way it shifted form Paul on the ukelele to the full band was very nice. |
i would second the monterey pop recommendation. ravi shankar's performance is amazing.

I must see this Video, I'll check it out
