That one smooth jazz instrumental...
Gah.. I can't get this awesome song out of my head.
Okay... i remember hearing it a lot on the radio back in the late nineties but I have no idea what it is called or who sings it. I guess it is smooth jazz. The worst part is, it's entirely instrumental (there may be a humming part). I've heard it in commercials or on a TV show somewhere before. It must have been quite popular because the tune is embedded in my head. It had a tune that went to the beat of something like this (bear with me, i know...) "Boo ba doo boop ... (now a slightly lower pitch) boo ba doo boop ... boo-ba-doo-doop!" It may be even older. I've googled as much as I can but since I know little but the tune of the song I can't really find anything. I went as far as searching "best of jazz" on Amazon.com and sampling most things from major jazz artists and I couldn't find a thing ... Really appreciate it if someone has a clue as to what i'm talking about I swear I'm not crazy. |

You might want to be a little more descriptive than that. We'll all probably have better luck helping you out if you can remember a commercial it's been used in or something more than "boo ba doo boop."

Also, if you look up at the top of the Music forum, there's a whole thread for "What song is this?" questions; if you can't find this thread later, it's because a moderator has merged your thread into that one.
I'd also love to help, but jeez, there's not a lot to go on there. Any idea what commercial? What the lead (melody) instrument was? BPM? Do you or a friend know how to transcribe music, and you could post an image of the written-down melody line? Hum into a microphone and post the MP3?

I suppose my best bet would be to record myself humming it as I have nothing else to describe it as.
If I could describe the in-depth info of the music I probably wouldn't be asking now, and I certainly wouldn't have tried to phoneticize... I know it's stupid but that's the best i can do :/ Sorry I can't really give any more, bloody shame .. i'm pretty sure it has no words. I suppose if someone just rattled off a couple of popular smooth jazz motifs that might work ... maybe... possibly... :/ EDIT: I'm pretty sure the dominant instrument is a saxophone. Not a very low-pitched one, in fact, a rather higher pitched sax. Last edited by MikeSty; 05-06-2005 at 07:52 PM.. |

Yeah, I even looked up stuff from Kenny G ... figured it may have been him.
Now I recall there being a voice in the song at some point. The guy doesn't sing, he just makes these low pitched mouth noises to the tune. Okay, well, here we go, the last ditch attempt involving me doing something stupid: Might have to turn the volume up |

Wow, that was freaking hilarious. I'm glad it turned out to be FUNK and not that smooth "jazz" crap.

hahahaha. I loved the a capella version more than the original. it's funny, I was actually trying to track down an instrumental track as well, but I don't have it in me to hum it and then post it on a message board. kudos for the fine musical performance, haha.
