i think chrome is better matching to the pickups and strings and all the other metal stuff on the bass. If the black knobs matched the black of the body better, id say black, but Im going to have to go with chrome

black.
But what i think it's really missing is a second seperate pickup, Like my beautiful Rickenbacker 4001(the pic isn't mine, but mines the same. I don't have a cam, so i just did a google image search) Last edited by Zephyr66; 02-13-2005 at 03:26 PM.. |

Rickers are sweet basses.......very nice. mines an active pickup.......so it's as if there are 3 in there........the tones this puppy produces are at both ends of the spectrum. nice tight, bright highs when you punch it.....and the deep bass lows rattle the whole damn house. i've yet to play a Rickenbacker......but have played many top of the line basses (fenders and such) and nothing comes close to what this thing does.........the feel, the sound.........i highly recommend to go play one bud......you'll love it. i see the chrome is still leading eh........ |

Fly,
I'm trying to picture you playing it. I think that the 4 chrome knobs would show up better on stage, and give it a more workmanlike look, whereas the black would sort of fade into the body, giving a slicker, more of-a-piece look. Since to me you look and write more like a craftsman than someone who is trying to project that he was born with a bass in his hand, I'd say accentuate the little things and go with the chrome. Half the secret to making something look easy is to make sure that people know that it's complicated.

I'd go with the chrome... but then again, I'm the type that would prefer chrome wheels on a black car to powder-coated black wheels on a black car. ;P I just think certain parts of an instrument, or a car, should stand out from others, and the strings, pickups, and knobs are those parts on a bass.

Another vote for Chrome
Looks sweet dude. Never played a Music Man so how does it play? Does it stay in tune up the neck pretty good? The only bass I ever played that stayed in tune up the neck was a Rickenbacker. My Kramer has great tone quality, but loses it at the high end of the neck pretty bad.

Black. The chrome looks cheap.
Just like a Les Paul with tone and volume knobs that look like poker chips stacked 4 high. Much better with knobs that look like a leprechaun hat type of thing,...if anyone understands that.

the only reason i was able to afford this sweet unit,is because some fuckin' bastard thieves stole all my other guitars and i used my insurance cash to rebuild the little collection. *and don't tell any one but......i scored the music man for only $900.....* |

Those bastards! Jay showed me pics of your collection and it was pretty impressive. Were you able to get more than just the sterling?
$900 is an awesome price...reminds me of my recent purchase of a 79 Dean V for $199!!! Don't tell anyone!

i would go with the chrome
unless of course you are doing some kind of black metal/gothy type thing. but i assume that, if you were, there would not even be a question and the knobs would already be black like everything else. have you posted any links to your recorded stuff yet? if yes, could you refer me to it? if no, post something here.....
