Going to concerts alone?

Well, my friend that was going to go to a concert with me just canceled, so I'm debating whether or not to go alone or not. I really want to see this band, but going alone is... well, lonely.

I've gone alone to concerts before, but this one is more than an hour away from where I live. So...

Has anyone done this, voluntary or not?

until i went to the big day out this year i had always gone to concerts with someone else (i was with other people but i spent half the day seeing the bands i wanted and only running into them when we were at the same band) but i quite enjoyed just seeing the bands playing by myself and not having someone else with me that i new so yes i would say go for it you would be stupid if you didnt. especially if you really wanted to see the band.

Fuck it. Don't miss a show because of it. I passed up on going to an Eric Clapton show back when I was in high school. It turned out to be Stevie Ray Vaughan's last show. His helicopter crashed that night. I have regretted missing it ever since. I once drove from Dallas to Houston (about 4 hours) and back by myself for a Page/Plant show after my freind bailed at the last minute.

I went to see a radio station's Christmas show this last December by myself...no one was interested in going to Seattle for a concert, but three bands I love were being featured and it was on my way to my parents' house. So I went alone. I had a great time by myself!

If anything, doing something like this proves to you that you can be independent.

Dang, I was at Alpine Valley the night before, hell of a show and creepy as hell when the crash happened. I have a bootleg of the show that I saw, great sound, but it still creeps me out.

Go to the show, live music is always a good time. I went and saw both Led Zepellin and Pink Floyd by myself because no one would believe me that you could buy a ticket at the door from a scalper.

I go to concerts alone all the time and there is nothing around here less than an hour's drive each way. Unless the band is very mellow, my wife is not interested. I still have a good time getting wrapped up in the whole live music atmosphere, especially if the band is one I like.

About half the shows I see, I go to by myself. Depending on what kind of show it is, I don't understand why some people insist on going to a show with someone else. If it's a rock concert, it's not like you'll be able to talk anyway. You'll just sit/stand next to someone you know rather than someone you don't. I wouldn't go alone to a coffee shop gig, but for shows like that it's usually not something you plan in advance. If you got the tickets because you like the music, there's no reason to not go. If you got the tickets to hang out with your friends there are less expensive ways to hang out.

i drove from san antonio to austin (1-1.25 hrs drive) to go see the suicide machines and catch 22 by myself several years ago. I got there real early and ended up having to walk around austin by myelf at night, so i was kinda nervous. Once the doors opened, it sucked having to wait there and sit through the opening bands by myself. I just leaned on a wall for like two hours before anything good happened. Once the main bands played, it was great. I got into the show, and had a blast. The drive home kinda sucked, cuz it was three in the morning and i was exhausted. All in all i probably would not make that trip by myself anymore. If you really want to see this band, then go, but try to arrive at sometime while the opening bands are wrapping up. If its not too much of a loss to not see the bad, then i would recommend not going until they come around again. Sorry your friend bailed on you

think about it like this: Everyone who is there are fans of the group (more than likely) so you already have something in common with a few hundred people at least. Just go it won't be as bad as you think

yea, ill agree with the person above me. I tend to be a very shy guy, so i had a hard time doing anything really until the bands i wanted to see came out. If you are not as shy as me, then you will probably have a better time than i did

Definetly go. Just grab a couple beers and get immersed in the music. If you like the band you'll have a good time for sure.

If you go alone it's a great way to pick up a girl. and them gig girls so usually so so nice and plus if you want to go to the gig why miss out. I've been to a few gigs alone and the best thing about it you don't have to worry about sticking to you're friends and can do what you want. Though i admit that the journey to the gig and back again maybe boring but plug in some ear phones and listen to the band you'll be seeing. It will be great.

Yep!

I'll probbaly have the same predicament shortly (most of my friends have no taste in music ), as i don't think my friend will be able to make the show (The Delgados). I still plan to go by myself though, mainly cause it's Perth the most isolated capital city in the world - no one ever comes here

If you like the band then definitley go. Generally, the main reasons you go to a show with a friend is someone to talk to in the line/queue and then afterwards about how good/bad the show was. You don't really need anyone whilst the show is on! it;'s like the whole movie going thing, you don't talk to people during the movie it's there for yourself to enjoy. You can always just talk to people as well, as you definitley have one thing in common!

I was about 13 when that happened. My parents were going to take me to a show in Detroit about a month before that happened, but my Dad told me I couldn't go because he didn't want me to be around all the people smoking weed (which is kinda funny, because I saw him doing it all the time). A month later, his helicopter crashed. I will never forgive me Dad for that one.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand. I say do it. No reason to miss a show. I have never gone to a show alone, but I am sure I could deal with it.

I'm sort of in the same predicament, none of my friends want to see shows, and I do. I've decided to go alone, just because I can. If you really want to see a band, it's worth it, whether with someone else or not. Yeah, the drive home will suck, but you can think about the show the whole on the ride!

yeah same here. i still go to concerts by myself all the time. i'm terribly shy though so i end up standing there alone and minding my own business. i won't talk to people unless they speak to me first.

i've gone to a concert by myself once because i was kind of stood up.

ironic night in retrospect, it was a metaphor for the entire relationship with the girl i was stood up by.

Done it once. Wasn't bad, but I certainly would've preferred to go with friends. Nice to have someone to shoot the shit with between sets. If you've got tickets, don't miss the show, though. It's the difference between good and great as opposed to bad and good.

I just found out today that I'm going to be going to a concert alone on Saturday night. I bought a ticket for myself regardless because I knew I didn't want to miss out, but I do feel a little sad about it.

I've done this before, but in those cases, I've met up with people I've "met" on the 'net, so it hasn't been an issue. But I wonder how I'll feel come Saturday.

Actually went to my first big concert alone. It was the Monsters or Rock at Rice Stadium in Houston, Texas. There where plenty of seats so I enjoyed the concert it. Mainly went to see Metallica, they where actually good in concert back then. I did skip a concert that a friend bailed out on me that I wished I had gone to alone. It was Static X and Adema. I'd have liked to have seen Static X. If you have the ticket and really like the band go!

This one time I went to a show alone and ran into someone I knew who was with a big group of her friends. Made me really happy that I wasn't actually there with them. Her friends were those kids who do shit at concerts that them and ONLY them find funny while everyone else is just completely confused and annoyed by them. At one point during one of the opening bands they all huddled together (roughly 9 or so people) and put their heads down and then walked around the pit while still huddled together and had a big laugh afterwards while everyone else was just rolling their eyes.

Moral of my story is that sometimes it's better to be alone than with people who are stupid. And you all know you've seen those stupid people in groups at shows.
