Those with more sophomoric tastes and have watched SeaLab 2021 or Aqua Teen Hunger Force, then you have seen the character, Hesh, or MC PeePants, respectively. MC Chris is the voice for those characters. His style has been dubbed "nerd core" and he raps about being a geek and geek stuff. Great artist. He just recently started touring. He still operates on a grass roots level, it's a great thing right now.

omega2K4 01-24-2005 10:00 AM

No new bands. Just Tool's and Nine Inch Nails' new albums.

gboz 01-24-2005 10:23 AM

Point of Grace, I Choose You. Heard a song that caught my attention, took a chance, bought it, love it. One of those albums I feel like I've been waiting on for years.

alpha 01-24-2005 01:03 PM

Right now I'm kind of exploring the IDM scene. Been listening to lots of BoC, Autechre and Aphex Twin.

jwoody 01-31-2005 08:08 AM

I fucking love this album

The Chemical Brothers - Push The Button.

My wife bought me the "Left Of The Dial: Dispatches From The '80s Underground" box set from Rhino Records... http://www.rhino.com/store/ProductDe...o?Number=76490

For those of you who think the 80's was a wasteland of shitty music... try listening to some of these tracks... Bloody brilliant!

MacGuyver 01-31-2005 04:16 PM

Kayne West - 'The College Dropout'

Not only is it the story of my life (without the success part at the end), but I don't get sick of his beats.

Some incredible playing on this album . . . . .

At the moment I'm transcribing some of Joey's right hand solo lines, using a slowdown program.

A challenge, to say the least.

Another for Mars Volta....great music.

Also, I know it super popular, but I am currently hooked on the newest Green Day album. It is just really good.

And for anyone who knows me, I can't talk about music without mentioning Alkaline Trio...all of it.

MacGuyver 02-01-2005 10:57 PM

Snoop Dogg - 'Rhythm & Gangsta'
Eminem - 'Encore'

02-02-2005 07:21 AM

The new OneManArmy/OneBeLo album dropping in 6 days.

& Taking Back Sunday

JumpinJesus 02-09-2005 05:44 PM

It's been a long, long time since I've been excited about new music and new bands. But recently, I've been discovering some bands that are truly making me feel like music is good all over again.

The bands doing this for me are:

The Shins
Ambulance Ltd.
Death Cab for Cutie
The Postal Service

I'm discovering some other bands that have been around for a few years that are doing the same for me.

The Magnetic Fields
Beta Band
Belle and Sebastian
Beulah (though sadly they have split)

hunnychile 02-09-2005 06:25 PM

The John Butler Trio. WOW.

They are indeed kickass.

Beulah has the kind of sound that I'd expect to get into, I really like a few particular songs by them (Gravity's Bringing Us Down, If We Can Land a Man...), and I have The Coast Is Never Clear...but I can't quite seem to get into the album as a whole. Drags for me. Same for the one Death Cab album I have, We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes.

I would suggest finding a copy of Beulah's "When Your Heartstrings Break" It is by far their best album and is loaded with songs in the style you've mentioned. I think this album is available only from their website, though. You might try p2p. It's an album worth having by them.

Awesome groups there. I'd say Mars Volta, Muse and Radiohead are the bands I'm listening to the most right now. I've always loved Radiohead, and I like how Muse sounds like Radiohead but angrier. And Mars Volta has been well represented and well complimented in this thread already, so I'm just echoing all of those sentiments.

Also, I've really grown to love the band Mew lately, though I'm having a ton of difficulty tracking down any of their stuff.

Mew, yes! I just managed to get their 2005 album and the Glass Handed Kites off of ebay from overseas. It's good stuff, kind of a wierd mix between Mars Volta and Death Cab For Cutie. At least, that was my impression...

Cost me around $15, iirc.

JumpinJesus 02-14-2006 03:58 PM

Interesting to see where we are a year from when I last visited this thread.

Let's see. At the moment, I am currently digging on:

the Lovemakers
Depeche Mode (their latest album has renewed my faith in them)
Fischerspooner
The Streets
The Birthday Massacre
Clap Your Hands, Say Yeah

And since Fool Them All seems to have some awesome taste in music, I'll be checking out Mew. Thanks for the tip.

...Death Cab for Cutie...

Good call! :) They are brillant!

as for me, i've recently discovered Slipknot and they are surprsingly deep songs with a lot of range on the album.

Antony And The Johnsons
Ray Lamontagne
Adam Mugavero
Martha Wainwright

Many more. I just can't think of them.

zensheep 02-17-2006 09:43 AM

Nightmare of You
Cassino
Marathon
No Trigger

A few of the bands I've recently gotten into.

trickyy 02-17-2006 10:37 AM

ladytron - witching hour from 2005 is much better than their first albums
i'm also really into boards of canada at the moment (they have a lot of early stuff that was never properly released)
japanther...i always thought it was a cool name for a band, turns out the band is kinda cool too
bonobo live sessions ep...great live jazz set of electronic tunes from chillout dj
susuma yokata, midaircondo...nice random acquisitions

Bacchanal 02-18-2006 10:43 AM

I'm moderately excited to hear the new Stone Sour album whenever it comes out (should be June or July by what I've been reading).

As far as what I've been listening to lately, a nice mix of old and new I think.
Iron & Wine
Circle Of Dead Children
Cattle Decapitation
Killwhitneydead
Baroness
Rainbow
Uriah Heep
Deep Purple
Ted Nugent
Symphony X

Paradise Lost 02-18-2006 06:42 PM

Since I don't care much for new music, a term I use loosely with today's trends, the music I end up getting into ends up being groups or particular albums I've just discovered but whom are at least 30 years old in most cases.

Miles Davis - Miles Smiles, In a Silent Way, The Complete Blackhawk Sessions.
Mahavishu Orchestra - Their First Two.
Moby Grape - Their first one. It's freakin awesome from start to finish.
Pat Metheny Group - His first one.
Todd Rundgren - Something/Anything?, Todd Rundgren's Utopia.
Van Morrison - Veedon Fleece
The Kinks - Anything up till and including Muswell Hillbillies, to be honest.
Ella Fitzgerald - The Complete Berlin Recordings (This is ridiculously awesome!)
Jethro Tull - Benefit
Grand Funk Railroad - Whatever I happen to click and play on.
Gentle Giant - EVERYTHING! OMG!
Frank Zappa - Over-nite Sensation
Donovan
David Bowie - Aladdin Sane
The Band - Their first two
The Beatles - Please, Please Me
Alice Cooper - Killer, Love it to Death.

Now I've heard stuff and listen to it quite frequently from these guys, but these are all new discoveries and man, I'm loving them right now.

Sage 02-23-2006 10:40 PM

Call me *really* behind the times, but I've been gettin into Black Eyed Peas' new stuff (even with the pants-wetting Fergie). I can't figure out if they're serious, or if they're just being totally ridiculous... like the lyric "Mix your milk with my Coco Puff"... totally stupid, or a satirical commentary on other rappers' bragging about their penis size? Have to listen again....

Also, I like Beck's new single "Hell Yes." Must have to do with having watched the video....

Coldplay is good too (again, behind the times).

Back in the day, I used to watch MTV religiously, so I was totally up on new music. However, the only time they really play music videos now is between 3-6am... and I'm asleep by then (I don't keep Paris Hilton hours!)

little_tippler 02-24-2006 09:13 AM

James Blunt - Goodbye my lover.......really hits home.

Woolf 02-24-2006 04:20 PM

Has anyone heard of Ben Christophers? Really, his lyrics and melodies break me down everytime I hear him. His voice sounds so fragile.
It's beautiful -- I'm completely in love with his music!
