Music that I'm excited about right now? MY OWN! :D
|
The Mars Volta truly are an amazing band. "De-loused In The Comatorium" is by far one of the most moving and well played albums I own. Good music - great concept etc. Their new EP leaked onto the IRC not to long ago - have you heard it?
It seems as if I've got the greatest luck ever: tomorrow I'll be seeing the Mod Flanders Conspiracy, I'll be seeing The Dillinger Escape Plan for FREE on the 20th, I'll be seeing Arsis on the 5th of next month, and I've already got tickets for a Suffocation/Cattle Decapitation/Behemoth show next month.... As of right now I'm getting lost in Borknagar's "Epic" album. Quote:

Dizzee Rascal hasnt really made it in America yet, but he should. He is truly the poet lauraete of the txt msg generation
Katie Melua also, she has a beautiful voice. |
|
I'll second (or third) The Mars Volta. I haven't been able to find their new EP for download yet, so I just have to wait for the release date.
I also agree with the comment about Dizzee Rascal, great hip hop, but I'm not sure if it'll ever catch on here. According to people I've showed it to, they "cant understand him". Also, I dont think it's new, but Jehst. A friend just sent me one of his CDs (I have no idea how many CDs he has out) and it is some of the best hip hop I've heard in at least 3 years. Of course, he's british too, so I'm sure the same people wouldn't be able to understand him. Their loss. My new Crotchduster CD is amazing! Anyone into metal with quite a bit of humor should check them out. My Arsis CD I just ordered today. The Red Chord I just got last night. I haven't heard much of either one, but I was impressed with what little I heard from both. If the new Tool ever comes out, I'm sure I'll be excited about that. |
Kindred The Family Soul
Also just discovered The Roots. |
pauline oliveros/the deep listening band
chris watsom: weather report (amazing manipulated field recordings...) ocora records--i have been raiding the music library at the university where i work--along the way i have developed a small but growing obsession with the output of this record label--consistently interesting "folk music" recordings without the goofy obsession with "purity" and/or "authencity" that characterizes the output of other labels. |
Switchfoot
Shinedown Not much, I guess I'm a boring person. |
the Killers
Keane Muse Air |
Not sure if there's one or not. I've DLed a bunch of live stuff, and that's all I'm listening to. Some of these are bands I didn't get into until I heard live stuff.
Marilyn Manson (their great live) Metallica (so so in what I have) Depeche Mode The Cure System of a Down RHCP NOFX Pennywise |
Rilo Kiley
Snow Patrol The Arcade Fire I've also been into The Postal Service for several months, but they still seem fresh and exciting to me. |

The Weakerthans The Postal service Ted Leo and the pharmacists and I'm waiting for that flaming lips documentary that's supposed to come in march.... it's funny someone mentioned froufrou I remember a while back listening to details and loved it(especially it's good to be in love) , but they didn't seem to get much attention now suddenly everyone seems to know them...even though they've had nothing new lately...or have they? |
i've taken a liking to My Chemical Romance.....great harmonies and something a little bit different than what i've been listening to.
|
rufus wainright
his style is a little off the center of my musical tastes and not exactly new, but he's an impressive wordsmith and musician |
My current exciting ones.
Faithless - no roots [especially 'mass destruction'] madvillian kj-52 mc frontalot and... Citizen Cope |
Right now im really hooked on the killers. Getting into the whole indie thing and synth.
|
The Silver Mt Zion Memorial Orchestra and Tra-La-La Band With Choir (all one band).

Also, *HIGH FIVE* for the Ted Leo. |
Lovedrug. I'm obsessed with Lovedrug.
|
If you like the Killers, check out Louis the 14th... my friend just got back from touring with both of them, I'm pretty bored with the rock-revivally stuff, but it's decent.
*Madvillian/MF Doom - Vic never dissapoints, but the newest stuff kills. *Coconut Monkeyrocket - Godawful name, but they are like a funkier version of Avalanches - check their split with Martinibomb. *OneBeLo aka OneManArmy - He wowed me in the Binary Star days, and his solo-stuff might even be better. *Haiku D'etat - Acey has long been a favorite, this is no exception to his great work. *The Kleptones - I cant praise these guys enough, this year alone they've gotten into more legal battles than anybody since maybe Atari Teenage Riot. Their album "A night at the hip-hopera" Mashed up a large chunk of Queen's Discography and hip-hop, which came out AMAZINGLY, and then later on "Yoshimi Battles the Hip-Hop Robots" which was a Flaming Lips/Hip-hop mashup killed too. |
Devendra Banhart
Kimya Dawson & Adam Green Thievery Corporation Regina Spektor Low The Libertines Ben Harper |
Rilo Kiley.
I hate liking any bands that all the "hip blogs" like, merely on principle that everybody just LOVES them. When I hear a lot of them, my main thought is "what's the big deal?" But I really "got" Rilo Kiley. I passed the disc on to my wife, who also fell in love with them. It's very rare we both get turned on to new music at the same time. So I'm real excited about them at the moment. |
currently i have stumbled back to Lennon..been listening to LOTS of his stuff. But i also cant put down Misery Signals. Kind of oposite ends of the spectrum...but hey...variety is good.
|
TV on the Radio
Devendra Banhart Ex-Models Thunderbirds Are Now! The new Blood Brothers cd Joanna Newsom Death From Above 1979 Deerhoof The Fiery Furnaces |

omg the new 50 cent! Disco Inferno is such a good song cant wait for his new cd
|
Those with more sophomoric tastes and have watched SeaLab 2021 or Aqua Teen Hunger Force, then you have seen the character, Hesh, or MC PeePants, respectively. MC Chris is the voice for those characters. His style has been dubbed "nerd core" and he raps about being a geek and geek stuff. Great artist. He just recently started touring. He still operates on a grass roots level, it's a great thing right now.
|
No new bands. Just Tool's and Nine Inch Nails' new albums.
|
Point of Grace, I Choose You. Heard a song that caught my attention, took a chance, bought it, love it. One of those albums I feel like I've been waiting on for years.
|
Right now I'm kind of exploring the IDM scene. Been listening to lots of BoC, Autechre and Aphex Twin.
|
I fucking love this album
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg The Chemical Brothers - Push The Button. |
My wife bought me the "Left Of The Dial: Dispatches From The '80s Underground" box set from Rhino Records... http://www.rhino.com/store/ProductDe...o?Number=76490
For those of you who think the 80's was a wasteland of shitty music... try listening to some of these tracks... Bloody brilliant! |
Kayne West - 'The College Dropout'
Not only is it the story of my life (without the success part at the end), but I don't get sick of his beats. |

Some incredible playing on this album . . . . . At the moment I'm transcribing some of Joey's right hand solo lines, using a slowdown program. A challenge, to say the least. |
Another for Mars Volta....great music.
Also, I know it super popular, but I am currently hooked on the newest Green Day album. It is just really good. And for anyone who knows me, I can't talk about music without mentioning Alkaline Trio...all of it. |
Snoop Dogg - 'Rhythm & Gangsta'
Eminem - 'Encore' |
The new OneManArmy/OneBeLo album dropping in 6 days.

I just started really getting into emo/screamo, bands like
The Used My Chemical Romance & Taking Back Sunday |
It's been a long, long time since I've been excited about new music and new bands. But recently, I've been discovering some bands that are truly making me feel like music is good all over again.
The bands doing this for me are: The Shins Ambulance Ltd. Death Cab for Cutie The Postal Service I'm discovering some other bands that have been around for a few years that are doing the same for me. The Magnetic Fields Beta Band Belle and Sebastian Beulah (though sadly they have split) |
The John Butler Trio. WOW.
|
Quote:
Beulah has the kind of sound that I'd expect to get into, I really like a few particular songs by them (Gravity's Bringing Us Down, If We Can Land a Man...), and I have The Coast Is Never Clear...but I can't quite seem to get into the album as a whole. Drags for me. Same for the one Death Cab album I have, We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes. |

Awesome groups there. I'd say Mars Volta, Muse and Radiohead are the bands I'm listening to the most right now. I've always loved Radiohead, and I like how Muse sounds like Radiohead but angrier. And Mars Volta has been well represented and well complimented in this thread already, so I'm just echoing all of those sentiments. Also, I've really grown to love the band Mew lately, though I'm having a ton of difficulty tracking down any of their stuff. |
Quote:
Cost me around $15, iirc. |
Interesting to see where we are a year from when I last visited this thread.
Let's see. At the moment, I am currently digging on: the Lovemakers Depeche Mode (their latest album has renewed my faith in them) Fischerspooner The Streets The Birthday Massacre Clap Your Hands, Say Yeah And since Fool Them All seems to have some awesome taste in music, I'll be checking out Mew. Thanks for the tip. |

Good call! :) They are brillant! as for me, i've recently discovered Slipknot and they are surprsingly deep songs with a lot of range on the album. sweetpea |
Antony And The Johnsons
Ray Lamontagne Adam Mugavero Martha Wainwright Animal Collective Wolf Parade Many more. I just can't think of them. Asta!! |
Nightmare of You
Cassino Marathon No Trigger A few of the bands I've recently gotten into. |
ladytron - witching hour from 2005 is much better than their first albums
i'm also really into boards of canada at the moment (they have a lot of early stuff that was never properly released) japanther...i always thought it was a cool name for a band, turns out the band is kinda cool too bonobo live sessions ep...great live jazz set of electronic tunes from chillout dj susuma yokata, midaircondo...nice random acquisitions |
I'm moderately excited to hear the new Stone Sour album whenever it comes out (should be June or July by what I've been reading).
As far as what I've been listening to lately, a nice mix of old and new I think. Iron & Wine Circle Of Dead Children Cattle Decapitation Killwhitneydead Baroness Rainbow Uriah Heep Deep Purple Ted Nugent Symphony X |
Since I don't care much for new music, a term I use loosely with today's trends, the music I end up getting into ends up being groups or particular albums I've just discovered but whom are at least 30 years old in most cases.
Miles Davis - Miles Smiles, In a Silent Way, The Complete Blackhawk Sessions. Mahavishu Orchestra - Their First Two. Moby Grape - Their first one. It's freakin awesome from start to finish. Pat Metheny Group - His first one. Todd Rundgren - Something/Anything?, Todd Rundgren's Utopia. Van Morrison - Veedon Fleece The Kinks - Anything up till and including Muswell Hillbillies, to be honest. Ella Fitzgerald - The Complete Berlin Recordings (This is ridiculously awesome!) Jethro Tull - Benefit Grand Funk Railroad - Whatever I happen to click and play on. Gentle Giant - EVERYTHING! OMG! Frank Zappa - Over-nite Sensation Donovan David Bowie - Aladdin Sane The Band - Their first two The Beatles - Please, Please Me Alice Cooper - Killer, Love it to Death. Now I've heard stuff and listen to it quite frequently from these guys, but these are all new discoveries and man, I'm loving them right now. |
Call me *really* behind the times, but I've been gettin into Black Eyed Peas' new stuff (even with the pants-wetting Fergie). I can't figure out if they're serious, or if they're just being totally ridiculous... like the lyric "Mix your milk with my Coco Puff"... totally stupid, or a satirical commentary on other rappers' bragging about their penis size? Have to listen again....
Also, I like Beck's new single "Hell Yes." Must have to do with having watched the video.... Coldplay is good too (again, behind the times). Back in the day, I used to watch MTV religiously, so I was totally up on new music. However, the only time they really play music videos now is between 3-6am... and I'm asleep by then (I don't keep Paris Hilton hours!) |
James Blunt - Goodbye my lover.......really hits home.
|
Has anyone heard of Ben Christophers? Really, his lyrics and melodies break me down everytime I hear him. His voice sounds so fragile.
It's beautiful -- I'm completely in love with his music! |
