Which Guitar To Buy?
I am looking to buy a semi-hollow electric and i was wondering if anybody out there had any advice on what to get my price range is $200-600 US. I am currently debating between an Epiphone ES-335 dot, an Epiphone Casino, and an Ibanez AS83 or even the AFS75T (both from the Artcore series).
So my question is does anybody out there own any of these guitars and which would be the best bang for the buck. tone and playabilty wise. im playing mostly indie style stuff and jazz. and my amp is a Fender Hot-Rod DeVille 2x12 (if it even matters) thanks |
I've got the AFS75D artcore and I really like it. It's got a great neck on it and plays great. The neck is the biggest reason I bought it. Pickups could be better but sound pretty good. I changed the strings to flatwound 12s and it improved the tone a lot. I looked at an Epi but the 335 I played just didn't have it. It's like that with the Artcores too, you can run across a turd with any of them. A used Gibson 333 is almost in your price range if you look hard enough. Pickups might be a little hot for jazz though. Play all of them that you can and let your ears and fingers tell you which one to get.
Edit:You said you have a Deville, my artcore sounds better through my Fender than it does my Marshall TSL. |
thank you. ive been leaning towards the ibanez's. and ive played them all before i was just wondering what other out there had to say about it

I honestly don't know much about Epiphones or Ibanezeseses :) but check out Yamahas as well. They make pretty solid instruments and provide good bang for the buck. My first guitar was a Yamaha dreadnought about 16 years ago and I still play it almost every day. It was $250 brand new. They have some nice acoustic/electric offerings as well.
Oh and I have a fretless Yamaha bass and it is solid as well. I also use the Yamaha DG-Stomp amp modeler. They make an acoustic version of that product as well. |
I remember seeing a Schecter semi-hollow not too long ago that was absolutely beautiful. Near the upper end of your price range, but well worth it.

I play a Gibson 335 Dot exclusively and played the Ephiphone Model before it years ago. I would say that would be pretty much exactly what you'd be looking for. Guild and Ibenez also make good semi-hollows for reasonable prices
