Music albums for the winter time
I usually listen to "heavier" stuff in the winter, since the weather induces depressing and moody feelings on me. Somehow I want to be left alone (but ironically I also want to be found out :hmm: ) and get my mind off academic things and on more "arcane" concepts of social life, introspection, relations, etc. Only a few albums succeed in satisfying my emotion-venting needs...
So, what's your favorite music album(s) for the winter? Mine are: Anathema - A Silent Enigma (by far my most winter-y album) Anathema - Eternity Explosions In The Sky - Those who tell the truth shall die, those who tell the truth shall live forever This year's runner-ups for a place in my "winter albums" elite selection: Isis - Panopticon A Perfect Circle - Mer de Noms Katatonia - Viva Emptiness  |
I don't have specific albums for the seasons, but if I get stressed from school or somethin then I do listen to certain things...
Cold - 13 Ways to Bleed On Stage Korn - Issues A Perfect Circle - Mer de Noms (Agree with ya there) Chevelle - Wonder What's Next, or now, This Type of Thinking Taproot - Gift |
I've definitely noticed that during the fall and winter months I tend to really up the amount I listen to metal and techno. During spring and fall I stick more to the punk side of thing. Heavier music fits better with the cold and dark, for obvious reasons.
A few picks: VNV Nation-Futureperfect Nightwish-Once Iced Earth-Something Wicked This Way Comes Rob Dougan-Furious Angels Any Orbital |
well its actually summer over here now but during the winter of this year i purchased the following:
bjork - medulla muse - origin of symmetry the birthday party - greatest hits bauhaus - greatest hits the hives - tynasarous hives division of laura lee - das not compute nine inch nails on vinyl: jon spencer blues explosion - i got no worry brmc - self titled velvet underground (white pressing) - white light/white heat elvis costello - (first album) the buzzcocks - (second album) |
I tend to listen to a lot more electronic, industrial, and dowtempo music. Stuff like Haujobb, KMFDM, Lovage, and Scorn. I also break out the old school black metal, like Satyricon and Emperor.
During the fall, the first Korn CD is a must. |
These CDs in particular are ones I strongly think of as winter CDs:
The Shins - Oh Inverted World The Shins - Chutes Too Narrow Belle & Sebastian - If You're Feeling Sinister Belle & Sebastian - The Boy With the Arab Strap Cursive - The Ugly Organ (particularly because of "The Recluse") |

Hmm I'm prolly the only guy here but I used to like to listen to hip hop in the winter time...
Wu-Tang Clan - 36 chambers, Forever..solo albums Liquid Swords, Iron Man, Uncontrolled, Cuban Linx Canibus - Can-I-Bus Black Star Pharoahe Monch - Internal Affairs Mos Def - Black On Both Sides The Roots - Things Fall Apart, Illadelph Halflife Dilated Peoples - The Platform, Expansion Team Mars Ill - Raw Material Pete Rock - Soul Survivor Bullworth - The Soundtrack Eminem - Slim Shady LP Nas - Illmatic Killarmy - Silent Weapons For Quiet Wars etc. but now a days I don't tend to listen to any particular albums during any particular time...a lot of times I'll get a new album and listen to nothing else for like a freakin month or 2, or I'll pick up an album I haven't listened to in a long time and listen to it for a while, and I'll admit sometimes I feel like hearing a particular album...these days Pink Floyd are kinda ruling my CD walkman heh. Asta!! |
if you like hip hop check out an aussie band called the hilltop hoods. very good local hip hop artist. infact they are the only hip hop cds i have...

A girl I met online from Aussie sent me a CD compilation a while back called "Culture Of Kings" well a copy of it that is...It reminded me of "The Streets" because the accents were a little thick on some of them. It took some getting used to but it has it's appeal.

Immortal - 'Blizzard Beasts' - great cold, desolate atmoshere. Still need to get ahold of 'Sons of Northern Darkness'
Red Harvest - Sick Transit Gloria Mundi - industrial metal, very apocalypse-themed ("Last chance to evacuate the Earth" being the best opening line. Ever.) From fast and pounding to slow and grinding, heavy as hell the whole while. Both bands from Norway, interestingly enough. Must be the climate. |
Not necessarily what you asked for, but Sigur Ros - () is desolate yet beautiful. It makes me think of what it's probably like in Iceland.
