For indie/acoustic/rock/folk music lovers - a great mag!
I don't work for these guys, I am just a really happy subscriber. For the past year I've subscribed to Paste Magazine and I find it to be a fantastic mag. I only found out about it through a link on somebody's blog - otherwise I never would have known about it at all.
It comes out six times a year and features excellent, really well thought-out articles on bands like Wilco, The Roots, Los Lobos, and solo artists like Pete Yorn, Sarah McLachlan, Patty Griffin, Aimee Mann and a boatload of others. In addition, they also have tons of excellent CD, movie and book reviews...although the majority of the reviews are of CDs, movies and books I've never heard of before - which is really cool. The best part of the magazine is the CD that comes with every issue - it has around 20 tracks from many of the artists, both major and indie, reviewed or written about in the magazine. I haven't had a chance to check it out yet, but my most recent issue came with both a CD and a DVD - which is also really awesome. The only downside to the whole thing is the cost - $26.95 for six issues over the year - but I imagine that's partially because of the CD inclusion and partially because it's a very small company. In any case, I just wanted to share the love with all of you - again, I don't work for them, I don't receive any money from them or anything. I just called them to renew my subscription, and was able to give a gift sub to a friend for free. If you go to this page, you can buy one subscription and get another free (and then another for half-price if you call them), so if you're interested, you can buy a sub for a friend and get one for yourself free...or vice versa. If you do subscribe, I'd be interested in knowing what you think of Paste. |
I might be interested in subscribing to this. Could you post the track listings for some of the CDs you've received?

I've leafed through that mag a couple of times in Borders. Really liked it.

Ooh, Sun Kill Moon, High Llamas, Van Morrison...
I think you've sold me. I'm going to seriously consider this. By the way, I don't have adobe on my computer currently and I'm too lazy to get it working. That's why I was asking you for some tracklists. |

BTW, of the three you listed, I've only heard of Van Morrison...for now. ;) |
I'm agreeing with you on the whole Paste magazine thing. It's a great mag, which I've been getting since issue #2 ( I saw an ad for it in "The Atlantic Monthly"), otherwise I never would have heard of it. The inclusion of the CD and now DVD are excellent and introduce me to a lot of music that I never would have heard otherwise.

Is the 2-for-1 subscription deal still available? The link you posted seems to be currently dead.
