Dimebag Darrell R.I.P.
I can't believe that something like this could occur. It is just so senseless and sad. This truly is a sad day for metal and the music industry in general.
http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/n...clubshoot.html |
They just confirmed that Vinnie was one of the other four dead.
edit: back from confirmed to conflicting reports. |
Two members of my favorite band (Pantera) are both dead. I'll have to listen to Cemetary Gates in remeberence of them.

They confirmed that Darrell is dead, and didn't ID release the name of the other band member yet. Police don't release names until next-of-kin are notified, and since Vinnie was Darrell's brother, he would be the one notified, and therefore the police could release info immediately. Eyewitnesses say that the guitarist (Pat Lachman, also in Halford and Diesel Machine,) was shot four times, which means that he's most likely the other band member who died. The bouncer who tried to pull the gunman off of Lachman was also shot at close range. |
This is truely a sad day... not just because the world lost a legend in metal history, but because the world lost a great guy who was an inspiration to many in the business. I imagine many, like me, are at a loss for words.
|
Just heard about this myself!! this is really a horrible day for the metal community. this guy was one of the reasons that i picked up a guitar!
damn !!! i am lost for words! i can see that concerts are going to have to be better controled from now on. how scary is that that people cant play shows now without wondering if they are going to get shot!!! FUCK IT ALLLLLLLL!!!! RIP Darrell!! |
unimaginable...
I hadn't really given damage plan a chance.. but I was a serious Pantera fan ... no words for something like this really.. fuckn shame. |
What?? This is despicable. What a senseless act of violence. This is pretty big news, I was completely caught offguard when I read the post title. Hope his family is alright.
|
The news was the first thing I heard when my alarm clock went off this morning....My thoughts are with everyone involved and with the bands fans....As a teenager/adult of the 80's Pantera was one of "my" groups and this is really really sad.
|
Like ShaniFaye, I just woke up to this news about ten minutes ago. One of my favorite guitarist is fucking dead now. Hearing this makes me want to vomit. I was going to see Damage Plan in Albany next week too. I absolutely can't believe the world we fucking live in. Unreal
|
Does anyone realize he died on the 24th anniversary of the day John Lennon was shot?

Sign of the times and all that... /me goes off to listen to some CDs... |
This is so senseless and unnecessary. No regard for human life. A sign of the way this world is headed if some change doesn't happen. Here's another news link:

I shall have a whiskey for Dime, his bandmates, friends and everyone who he inspired.
You're the man Dime. By the way, thats ONE whiskey for the lot. Not one each, or I'd be talking to the guy personally. |
this fuckin sucks so much. I'm disgusted, sad and pissed off all at the same time. RIP Dimebag
|
What a senseless tragedy. My sympathies go out to all who know and love Dimebag and the band.
|
THAT was unexpected. That sucks.
Now I really wish I didn't let that girl borrow my copy of Far Beyond Driven in '98. |
People who aren't in the metal community have no idea what a blow this is. Pantera helped turn me into the person I am today. For Dimebag to die feels like a part of me dying. I am still having problems comprehending this . . . . .
|
i'm so shocked.this is something i can't believe.they played ashow, and wated to have fun,and then a crazy guy shoots half of the band.i cannot believe this.something like this never happened before.it's like 9/11 for the metal world
R.I.P. DIMEBAG AND PAT |
Is Vinnie Paul dead or not?
No story says that he is. [edit] and to the above, why RIP Pat? The singer didn't get shot. Where did you read that? |
i keep thinking about burzum....
|
I think the bigger issue here is that someone just walked out on stage and killed people with a gun, right in front of a huge audience of onlookers. This kind of thing is happening far too often. It's almost losing it's shock value. There is something seriously wrong with a society in which this kind of thing happens. We really need to wake up. We are heading down a very very serious path...
We're all to blame. That's the scary part. In some way we all play a part in the sickness that happens in our world. We're all humans. We all are in essence capable of doing the horrific acts that we see other people do every day. And I'll be the first to admit that i don't see a real, tangible, practical way that we can put a stop to it. How sad... |
Nah, people are acting like this is a sudden epidemic.
It's been happening for ages, you just never heard about it as much. Just some loon walked on stage with a gun, shot someone, that's about it. It sucks, but it doesn't go beyond "they're a nutcase". They made a conscious choice (and being 25, you can't blame anyone but him) to shoot someone. Same with Mark David Chapman, same with Lee Harvey Oswald, John Wilkes Booth, etc. It happens in all societies - it's called human nature. Nothing will change it short of doping everyone up and locking them in a cell. Even in the most perfect society, this will happen. Everyone's acting like this is the apocalypse and the end of the world, but in reality nothing has changed much. The media is an attention whore, so you will be hearing a lot about these types of things from now on, whereas before they were kept hush hush. You REALLY think columbine was the first time a kid brought a gun and shot up the students? |

A sad day indeed. Pantera is what got me into metal in the first place. It won't be the same without them. RIP guys.
|
Sad sad sad sad world we live in... Not only do you have to worry about terrorists, but also the guy next to you...
|
yeah, RIP DimeBag
|
Just a matter of time until some sick fuck puts an item on E-Bay that depicts this horrible act of senseless violence...

For the record, VINNIE IS NOT DEAD! He took a bullet to the leg, but he is already at home in Texas.
I had to go out to their club today to pay my respects at a little memorial that has sprouted up. I am still stunned. Dime was a great guy, regardless of how he played guitar. |
Like others who posted here today, I woke up to the news that Dimebag Darrell was shot and killed only 2 hours from where I am. I was shocked. He was a true legend in the modern metal scene and his immense influence on the genre and the music industry itself is inescapable. Truly one of the most senseless, horrible events of the year.
|
http://www.damageplan.net has a thing up for Dimebag Darrell, but they misspelled his name
"Dimbag Darrell" |

EDIT: Spoiler: fuck all that noise by me, i posted a rant in this same post earlier but just redacted it here.
Dime was one of my guitar heroes. I'm really saddened by his murder and I'm not even going to bother posting in that General Discussion thread. http://img43.exs.cx/img43/1898/dimenewsdec93oi.jpg Borrowed from http://www.deanguitars.com/ Thanks Imageshack! |
speechless .. RIP Dime...
|
This makes me...speechless. I can't believe it.
|
I was really devistated by the news as well. I told some other people I know about it and they were like "Oh. Bummer." People outside the metal world just don't know how big an influence on the industry he was. What a huge personality he was. A real tragedy.
RIP Dimebag |
