"Bad" Songs that you love...
 

Okay, while strolling down memory lane a few nights ago, I came across my high school jazz's band old recording tape. One of our 'signature' songs was Maynard Furgeson's version of Jimmy Webb's "MacArthur Park". During one of the rhythm breaks, the rest of the band actually sang the lyrics to it. I had always thought of it as one of my all-time favorite sad love songs, with perhaps the most thoughtful and intelligent lyrics written. I'll admit, it was written in the sixties, so some of the stuff was obviously done on acid (think "Strawberry Fields), but that's not the point.

After doing a search to try to find the lyrics and jog my memory, I came to discover that this song was voted as the #1 Worst Song Ever by Dave Barry and is looked upon by many as an absolutely terrible, terrible piece. I was shocked. What I believed to be the most brilliant and descriptive lyrics ever was generally seen as being stupid and silly. It seems that far too many people just didn't get the whole metaphore thing...

Anyway, list other songs that you personally love, but the rest of society seems to hate. If you want, list possible reasons on why you seem to be the only one to understand what the artist was really trying to say.

VH1 seems to have a real problem with "power ballads". :D I happen to really like a lot of the songs on the list. But the thing that had me scratcing my head... Creed is metal? :D

I agree with most of those as not being metal..

Some hate it, some tolerate it on occasion, but one song that always makes me move and puts a smile on my face is " Turning Japanese ". (can't recall the group's name, tho; making my head hurt to try)

Great beat, great premise, and just an all around great party song, IMO. Gotta love any song about "whippin' the bishop" that reaches the top 10. Most excellent.

Now wait a minute! Silent Lucidity is a beautiful song. Of course some may say that it's a rip-off of Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb...

I don't think that song sounds anything remotely like Comforably Numb other than the fact that Geoff's talk voice sounds similar. Yes awesome song as is The Scorpions - Wind Of Change. I could probably think of worse metal songs than those 2. Especially with most of the crap they play on Headbangers Ball these days.

anything Mariah Carey sings...i some how manage to watch all of her music videos but try to tune the music out. Hope this counts for the conversation about bad songs (in this case artist)

Yeah, what's going on with Creed having a song in a metal song list?

I'll do ya one better. I actually greatly enjoyed some of her earlier stuff, right up to Music Box. Still do, to a lesser extent. ('Course, most of Daydream and everything after was shit.)

i like all these songs, but i do agree that "bring your daughter" should be on this list, most of the others shouldn't.

The Final Countdown is only on my list because I'm in love with Norther's cover of it.

My pick would probably be Biz Markie's "Just a friend". Terrible, Terrible song, but its so fun to listen to

a guilty pleasure of mine is Extreme "More then words"

What's wrong with Winds of Change? It's a good song. I saw that show, and I can't believe they put Final Countdown as the worst metal song. It's actually pretty damn good. In fact, I'm going to listen to it right now.

there's nothing wrong with winds of change..cept it's not technically "" a metal song. .. as for Final Countdown..whew.. that song is horrid..and why it ever got classified as metal I have no idea. Man I wish GnR woulda just kicked their asses or something. :D

If you're gonna put Creed on a "awesomely bad" song list, you might as well just put "Creed - All Songs"

This was mentioned in a Fark thread recently, but you need to find the a cappella version of this, just vocals (more voices than the original) plus very simple conga drum accompaniment.

For some reason, I have a spot in my heart for bad 80's New Wave and any song where they have a keyboardist who has one of those keyboards that you wear like a guitar (does anybody know what they're called? I really want to get one)

Cranberries' Dreams. Well, of course I wouldn't personally call the song "bad" but I know many people that do :D
