little bit of hip hop n rap
hey im looking for some good hip hop/ rap artists. Following along the lines of people such as
Swollen Members Sweatshop Union The Arsonists Zion I Binary Star if you have some music like that post name becuase im looking for more BTW SweatShop Union- "The Thing About IT" Is extremly fucking good, the lyrics say it all |
Aesop Rock? That's the default response of this music lover with one rap CD out of 250.
Atmosphere? RJD2? I have an Arsonists song on a comp I own...I think I remember enjoying it. |
Cage-Movies for the Blind
Leak Bros-Waterworld Murs-any, but 3:16 the 9th edition is his most recent (and maybe accessible) Illogic-Celestial Clockwork, also his earlier albums are really good Victor Vaughn-Vaudeville Villian Madvillian-Madvilliany Louis Logic-Sin-o-Matic Copywrite-The High Exaulted That's just a few i'm looking at now. Pretty I recommend anything off the DefJux or Eastern Confrence labels. Rhymesayers is also a good label, these all have more underground artists. Honestly, I could fill a whole page with good hip-hop albums, but most of the one's I listed are fairly recent and might even be found in mass-market stores. |
If you like Binary Star you'll like Athletic Mic League
Clokworx K-Otix Subconcious Planet Asia Mars Ill Blackalicious Brand Nubian Styles Of Beyond Living Legends J-Live Jedi Mind Tricks Heiroglyphics I know more I just can't think right now. I'll have more by tommorow. Asta!! |
I've been recommending brit Dizze Rascal to all my friends who like rap, he has a really unique sound. The Streets from Britain also deserve mention, especially if you like to pay attention to all the lyrics.

Dilated Peoples
Dead Prez (if you're offended by the word cracka though..) Asta!! |

KRS-One <-- quite possibly the most underated MC ever
RA The Rugged Man Cunninlynguists Apathy CelphTitled Blueprint Mr. Lif <-- the album 'I Phantom' is a must Mos Def <-- 'The New Danger' is dope, but 'Black on both sides' is classic mos def Immortal Technique Talib Kweli Tame-One Weathermen Blackalicious Dialated Peoples lmno eyedea & ablities DJ Format Kyprios (he's from Sweatshop, but has a solo album out) Tha Liks (aka Tha Alkaholiks if your looking for older stuff) Buck 65 <-- also Canadian, like Swollen Members Moka Only <-- on a lot of Swollen tracks, but has solo albums too. Like previous posters said, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Check out ifilm.com for music videos from these artists that you might not catch on tv. And, if you happend to be around Calgary, Alberta (Canada) check out The Beatdown latenight on CJSW 90.9FM |
I thought about listing Common since he's my fave emcee and all but I figured he was popular enough already. Forgot about K-Os..his shit isn't all hip-hop though his album has R&B/Singer Songwriter stuff as well. My boy also told me he has some rock songs but I'm not sure if I trust his definition of the word rock. I love K-Os his video's are the best too cause I'm still madd into B-boy'n. Well since well knowns aren't out of the picture and since no one has listed him yet
Pharoahe Monch...and his old group Organised Konfusion. I also like Canibus but I know a lot of guys don't. I don't know why though. Asta!! |
Hey apple, if you're a fan of binary star you should check out OneManArmy's solo stuff. www.subterraneousrecords.com

I cant BELIEVE that no one has recomended Sage Francis yet! If you are into underground hip hop, check out the following Cage (Movies for the Blind is awesome) Buck 65 RA The Rugged Man Sage Francis (Personal Journals is the best record, if you dont get anything, you MUST dl "Crack Pipes" - its such an incredible track - and, no it isnt about drugs) Canibus (not quite underground, but an awesome lyricist) Jedi Mind Tricks Warcloud (used to go by the name of Holocaust) Apathy 7L & Esoteric Killarmy Necro & Ill Bill Dizzee Rascal (but I wouldnt bother with any of the rest of Roll Deep Crew) Agallah |

Dj Shadow Kanye West "College Graduation" Bootleg Prefuse 73 Paul Barman anything by Del tha Funky Homosapien (Deltron 3030, Hieroglyphics, Gorillaz) |
I don't know anything about hiphop in general, but I like The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy.

old school
Raekwon - only built for cuban linx still is my fav hip hop album |
^ Ice Cream
Asta!! |
Soul Position is awesome
Mos Defs Black on Both sides is also good |
K-OS
Nas Omni Infinite Warren G (his old stuff anyways, even if the lyrical part isn't spectacular, you GOTTA love his beats) Kyprios As to my opinion on the Streets: I enjoy listening to him because he's unintentionally hilarious (seems like he'd have a sense of humour about it though). British rap gives me a good larf. :D |
