Kelly Clarkson? Who Would Have Thought?
I'm listening to Since U Been Gone and I have to grudgingly admit that as pop songs go, this is one terrific pop song. It has these little musical surprises in it, like the 'yeah yeah' refrain, and that terrific little guitar riff that comes in toward the end. I heard it was recorded in Sweden, and more recently learned that two songs were co-written with two Evanescence members. So I guess this is kind of Kellyvanescence or Clarksonescence.
Anyway, don't shoot the messenger. This is a great song that the Clear Channel radio stations will play to death until you get nauseous hearing it so much. Enjoy it while it is fresh. |

She has a very engaging personality and a nice voice. I dont think she has ever performed anything that struck me as profound or relevant though.

She's also getting tons of time doing promotions and stuff. Just recently, she was at the Celtics game (and looking mighty fine I might add). I think the fact that she's attractive, talented, and seems to have her head on her shoulders means she's going somewhere.
If only I could say that about most of the pop stars out there, who are lucky if they have even 2 of the above. Then again, I buy their stuff, so I have no one to blame but myself. |

I don't care what anyone else thinks, Kelly Clarkson is one of my favorite singers, alongside Christina Aguilera.
Face it, they're both 10 times better than Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson combined.

Apparently Ted Leo is a fan of the song. He did a cover of it:

scott_p_1 is that the remix that I've heard so much about yet never hear? I've heard there's a club mix but I can't find it. I think she's hot, I'd do her. I don't care much for her music though. I will admit one of the hottest remixes I've heard in a long time is Britneys 'Toxic' set to a jungle beat.

At first, I kept on thinking Since U Been Gone (What is it with people writing txt-like? Ugh.) was an Avril Lavigne song, especially the "Yeah yeah" bit.
I like her better when she's singing pop and not all dramatic ala Mariah Carey. And she's also lucky that her songs are actually getting catchier, instead of what's rejected by other other pop singers.

hehe, i actually went to her concert (it was my fiance's birthday present) and i thought she was pretty good. She did a medley of some classics that was pretty awesome. Then at the end she sat at the front of the stage and signed at least 50 autographs before her people told her she needs to get off the stage. I thought that was pretty cool. I actually didn't feel too ashamed to tell my friends i went to her concert...but that's just cause i don't have much shame

I never gave much thought to her as I avoud American Idle like the Plague. But after hearing a few of her songs on the radio, they kind of caught my attention. I was surprised that the songs were hers. More power to her. I think she has a lot of potential.

The entire CD is actually great. It's especially impressive because she got her start on American Idol, and most of the other winners have gone....well really no where. Kelly is doing really well for herself and people genuinely like her music. I look forward to her next album.

Mr Mephisto - yes she wrote some of her own stuff
http://www.mtv.com/bands/c/clarkson_...eature/041122/ "I was Little Miss Songbird, writing everywhere with everyone. Some of the songs didn't make it; they were awesome as well, but you can only have so many on an album. I ended up writing like half the album and working with a lot of great writers and producers. And the songs I didn't write, writers that I was working with wrote for me." although it sounds like she didn't really get the final say in what made the album

Heh Mad TV had the greatest parody of this last night with "Since i Was On". all the past winners/2nd place people were moaning about how they were all broke and faded away from the public eye.

I had never heard of her until I saw her sing "Since U Been Gone" during the Orange Bowl halftime show. I've been hooked ever since. She totally smoked Ashley Simpson, who got booed at the same show.
Her songs are simplistic and not very inspired, but that's not really a bad thing. Talent like hers can turn any song into a gem. |

I'm loving her new single "Behind These Hazel Eyes". I'm usually not a big fan of pop...especially so-called pop princesses...SHOOT THEM ALL PLEASE!!! But this girl I can stand, she has some pipes and her songs aren't half bad.

believe it or not,
this thread is the first time i've heard of her. (i know ted leo & the pharmacists quite well, tho) edit: i don't watch tv. only movies and sports. end edit. so here's what i think... yup. the lady can sing. BUT i don't really care for her style of music. she sounds like mariah, aguillera, etc.... so yeah, she should be good a a couple billion record sales.

A friend of mine is working for her now. When he told me, I said "Oh, the Idol gal?" sort of dismissively. He says she's quite good in concert and not at all one of those cookie cutter pop stars. He's worked with Indigo Girls, Cheap Trick, Melissa Etheridge and a few others, so he's not easily starstruck.
I've still not heard her album, though.

I love the video and song for Behind These Hazel Eyes. She can sing her ass off to be sure. I like what I like. Closest to labeling I come would be a metalhead with a fondness for good rap, but I love this song and video.
