I haven't made it all the way through yet, but what I like what I have heard. Not as good as "The Joshua Tree", but then again what is?

The Unforgettable Fire

(just to stay within the same band) ;)

I listened to the album, and I didn't like it as much as some of their other stuff.. and it's definitely not as good as their last studio album.

That said, I'll probably still buy this.

Along the same type of music stream (well... yeah.. pretty close), R.E.M. released their most recent (a month ago) album streaming online a week early. Hopefully real record sales come out of this, as it will encourage other bands (or their companies) to do something similar.

This isn't a dig at you harry, just a comment on the GENERAL sentiment I picked up)
Is it me or do all Americans think that they discovered U2 and that they owe the american listening public another such album?

They get hooked on this album that is obviously influenced by 2 years of touring in the US and think that is all they wrote. Seriously, how many times do I have to hear US comedians bitching about Bono and telling him to "shutup and make another Joshua Tree!"?

Listen to some of their early stuff and you'll realise these guys have constantly been evolving.

Pete- I agree that U2 has a lot of great stuff, but The Joshua Tree is a classic album. I am not a U2 fanatic, so I will admit that I don't know their whole catalog as well as a big fan would. I think a lot of the people you are referring to aren't really U2 fans, they just like a few songs. I would never wish for them to make another Joshua Tree (or expect it to happen). I will put it this way, I am a Zeppelin fanatic and I try and steer people away from the fourth album into other, lesser known material (to the average listener). But at the same time, I still recognize the brilliance of that album and understand why it is so popular with the masses.

Today is Sundeay, Nov 21.

Anybody see U2 on SNL last night? Pretty amazing. I've never seen a band take over the show quite like that! Normally bands do just two tunes on the show. At the end of snl, they just jumped on stage and started a third tune, and Edge was switching guitars for a fourth tune as the credits rolled. Totally energizing. This made a good showing for SNL musical guests after the big lip-sync fuckup by you know who.

Jujueye- I wouldn't expect less from Bono, I mean- he's Bono for crying out loud :-) I caught the performance as well and it was very amazing indeed.
